• I'm retired. 2004-07-29 00:24:28 In case anyone's wondering, yes it's official, I've retired. Extraordinary World will be my last video. You can go to my homepage for more details.
• Gomen ne 2002-11-12 06:53:13 Well I just got finished watching the last episode of Saishuuheiki Kanojo (My Girlfriend the Ultimate Weapon, or the bad translation of just "She, the ult. wep.") and I've finally pulled myself together decently enough to write about it along with some other things.

God damn that show it good. But God it hurts. Oh, it's painful. I'm talking Grave of the F@#$ing Fireflies painful here. In fact the best description of the show I can come up with is take the romantic peril of all 76 episodes of Marmalade Boy, mix in the wartime tragedy of Grave of the Fireflies and squeeze it all into 13 episodes and you've got SaiKano. This show is f@#$ing INTENSE. If I wasn't watching it with a friend to share the pain with I'd probably be curled up in a ball in the corner of my bed bawling my eyes out right now.
So we've decided to show it in Anime Club next quarter. Sadistic officers, aren't we? :D We'll provide free alcohol, since 3/4 of the club will need it. We're probably going to follow it up with Azumanga Daioh, the combination of which I quite accurately described as "kicking them in the balls and then tickling them."

As for actual music video stuff - AE is annoying. It's freaking powerful as all get out but it's a pain to work with when you're trying to do audio timing stuff, so I've come up with a bunch of tricks to make my life easier which I'll probably share at a later time because I don't want to give away all my trade secrets. :)

The new video is... well, started. I'm watching the whole series over again (and it's a long one, folks) and then I'm gonna start storyboarding the non-original parts. Yes, there are going to be some "original" parts, but that's the most I'll describe them as. When you see the video in about, oh, 4 months you'll know what I mean. :P

As for life in general... well not a whole lot is going on. Spending time actually WATCHING anime for a change, playing DDR, playing video games, doing school stuff, hanging out with friends. Pretty standard college stuff, I guess. Being a co-president in the Anime club is both fun and work, but it's definately worth it.

Doing a lot of reading on video stuff, and I've been keeping up with all teh latest AVISynth developments. AVISynth 2.5 is about to go Beta, as the Alphas have been in development for almost a month now, I think. Their biggest improvement is native YV12 colorspace, which is important for DVDrippers less than it is AMV makers (since we're converting into RGB for editing anyways). Still exciting stuff. Plus new filter developments are always cool. There's a YUY2 Avisynth version of the Temporal Cleaner out now, which makes life way easier for those who want to use it in their filter chains now.

Actual AMV stuff is taking kinda a back seat for now. The sheer immensity of my next project has my mind reeling, and it will need way more planning than my previous AMVs because I really can't just wing it by working with a timeline and seeing what works because of the way the video is designed. I hope it'll be worth all the effort.

Which means, sadly, I won't be getting to that ABBA video anytime soon. :( Although I will have to take breaks to work on my AniPara video.
• Hey MCWagner... 2002-11-08 22:27:53 Cheer up. I came up with an idea for an ABBA video. :D
• Sheesh. 2002-10-28 00:21:30 Is Phade gonna have to start shutting down the journals now to let people cool off?

C'mon people. Just ignore the idiots. Morons will be Morons. It's better to just ignore them and move on.
• For RichLather 2002-10-22 18:43:08 Sorry about the drive. I think my C Drive is failing so I've backed up everything important and am gonna try to replace it very soon before it goes.

REally, dead hard drive data recovery services cost LOTS of money. Way more than it's worth from what it sounds like you lost. The only time I would attempt to employ those services is if your entire Dissertation that you've worked on for a year is on that drive that just died and you have no other backup whatsoever.
