JOURNAL: turboneko (Marco & Cristina)

  • C'mon... let's get down tonight, ayeeeah 2002-07-25 09:35:28 DDR track is coming along... 42 secs now and we have this damn song playing all over the place in our house :p
    This night will be editing-intensive again, and we hope to slam at least another 20 secs into the timeline. The fast-rap-funk-crazy part is approaching and that will probably slow down things a little bit: we can't imagine that chunck without a cut every 10 frames or so ^_^;

    As soon as we have this thing a little "polished", we'll send out a beta to Ian for some feedback... if he bashes us... oh well, you won't probably see us around at AWA :p

    For the rest, life goes on normally. I have a bunch of DDR megamixes here in the office but I can't listen to them.

    Why?

    Because... I... FORGOT... THE... DAMN... HEARPHONES!!

    Oh well, I better start that crappy artwork... they are making the installation today and they will fire my ass up if they don't have it ^_^;;
  • 2002-07-23 14:52:47 I was just browsing the forums a few minutes ago and I felt sad. I don't know why, but the old board was a million times better... people where actually discussing and posting something worthy.

    What do we have now?

    A bunch of forums where nobody seems to have something to say. Rivers of useless words and crappy graphics sigs all around the place.

    Worst than that are the off topic forums. Too much people spamming there with their shit... a complete and total failure in my point of view.

    I have to agree with the general feeling of many other people: this community is sinking rapidly.

    Bah, I don't even know why I am writing this...
  • Shoujocon and other stuff 2002-07-23 10:22:39 Well well well... yesterday I hadn't much time to post in the journal to bore all of you with my little Shoujocon report :p
    But I'll do it now, just because I had a great time and I want to share it a little :p

    THE TRIP (Saturday, too early to remember)

    Alarm rang at 4:00 AM... it may sound crazy, but we didn't want to be late since we already skipped the Friday. The crazy thing is that we went to bed at 3:00 AM... geez :p
    Alright, the AMV Panel is scheduled for 12:00 so, if we want to avoid the monster traffic @ Geo Washington Bridge and be on time, we better move our asses and leave early *serious*
    We eventually make it to New Jersey ahead in time... but then we get lost twice in the labyrinth of Highways, left turns to make at right and work in progress that are around the hotel >_< It's still early though, and we make it to the Con at 9:30 (whooooo).
    The morning goes between watching some fun cosplays, hanging in the dealers room and taking some pictures.

    THE AMV PANEL (Saturday, 12:00 AM)

    Panel starts very sharp, and we have the occasion to spot Scott Melzer, Micheal LaBrie, Meri Cantoni, Anneke and some other guys who usually hang around at .org.
    They kick low immediately and show "Right Now" by Tim Park and "Believe" by Kevin Caldwell. I thought "Man, with a beginning like that, everything else is going to look like crap :p"
    There is around 50 people in the room and most of them are AMV creators and/or have an account on animemusicvideos.org. Scott makes everyone to briefly introduce themselves, so we are able to say who's who. I am able to recognize in this way gambitt, who was trying to hide himself in the back (what's up man? Scared of someone beating you for a bad review? :D). The panel goes on and there is an interesting discussion about AMVs that I won't report here (do you wanna really me to write all of that with my awful english? You gotta be kidding :p). I have once again the proof that Scott Melzer is a great person (besides of a great AMV creator), and enjoy the rest of the panel. At the end I am also able to grab some CDs so, for me, the day is made :D

    THIS... IS... OTAKUDOM!!! (Saturday, 6:00 PM)

    Had the chance to finally see this great work... man, everybody was cracking up :p Really, really, REALLY cool.

    THE AMV CONTEST (Saturday, 7:00 PM)

    Oh yeah, the main reason we came to Shoujocon!! :D I won't go into the details of each video otherwise I would be too long, but let me say that I was pleased and disappointed by it. The competing videos were all good, but no one really stood up in my (and Cristina's) eyes.
    Meri's entry was technically excellent and, despite of the Linkin Park music (sorry Meri, couldn't resist :p), I have to say that the video was really really well built. Excellent scene selection, sharp editing and good lyrics matching... so what went wrong? I don't know, but I felt it a little "cold inside" if you understand what I mean. I am sure that by watching it again several times I'll appreciate it more and more (it's really good people), but it is not a video that hits you right away, or so to speak.
    What surprised me was the Karekano video, and actually is the one that me and Cristina voted for the first place. A really excellent Arima profile, moving and skillfully edited. Nice song selection also: I definitively recommend it (yeah, if only I could remember the title :p)
    The winner... well... I don't know. For sure it's a funny video, but I felt too much fan service in there. Geez, if you had seen the amount of fangirls at the Con you would understand what I mean ^^; What I want to say is that it wasn't a bad video... only that it looked too much "constructed" for the purpose. Oh well, maybe I am only too critic ^^
    Same thing for the second place, and this was even more evident in my eyes. It was a Fruits Basket video about Tohru and Kyo... I saw the same video from the same creator done before on Tohru and Yuki. Everytime Kyo appeared on the screen all the girls in the room were all "Kyaaaaaaa" and stuff. Now I wonder the reaction if it was the original video with Yuki instead of Kyo. Hmmmmm.
    The nice thing about the contest was that I had the time to discuss about it with gambitt: this guy is so cool. I have no idea why, but he was the AMV creator I spoke more during the Con :p
    After the contest they had the music video exposition, and that was nice too. Some good stuff in there ^_^

    THE COSPLAY PARADE (Saturday, 9:00 PM)

    Again, never saw such an amount of crazy fangirls in all my life :p Everytime someone dressed as a shounen ai character came up, the room went down... geez, that was so much fun!! :)
    You should have watched the mini-DDR contest they had on the stage... more precisely, you should have seen when that blonde guy dancing took off his shirt ^^; Oh man....
    Mention of honor goes to the Yami no Matsuei group (Muraki throwing an apple to call a monster, and then complaining because he forgot his pokeball was really cracking) and the Weiss Kreuz guys who made also a little karaoke.
    My "cute" award goes to a little kid dressed as I-have-no-idea-who mage who yelled "You!! You monsters!!! I will send you down in HECK!!!". Holy crap, the room exploded on that :D

    MISCELLANEOUS STUFF (Saturday, 11:00 PM~)

    After the cosplay we barely had the force to stay up, but we continued to hang around just to see people and talk to someone. The guys had a room with four or five playstations with DDR all over the place. I didn't play it because I really suck big ass, but it was fun to see people fighting on the mat like crazy. And there was this girl... man, she went at full maniac speed without missing one single beat. She crushed almost everybody in the room ^_^;;

    THE DAY AFTER (Sunday, 9:00 AM)

    Got up early after a few hours of sleep, took a shower, checkout and then con again. The day was really slower than Saturday, but I believe each con is like this. Many people leaving, less cosplays and just an handful of events. I had the opportunity to talk some more with gambitt though, and I really enjoyed it. Both of us didn't bring CDs with our work because... well, it's not really good when you don't release a video in an year ^_^;
    Besides of that he told me about the DDR track he's doing for AWA together with Nightowl and a little about his future projects. I wish I had some future projects to discuss too, but I feel that going to this con injected me with new life in the AMV sense (yes Ian, I am ready to drop that X video :p)

    Uuuuufff... that was certainly a good bunch o' stuff. I don't know how many of you have made it until here, but before closing I have another couple of things to say.
    Well, first of all, we are going to AWA this year. That is cool. Second, I still have to understand how, WE HAVE A DDR TRACK!! Man that is so great... we already started working on the project and the video is coming out really good: we layed around 30 secs of it yesterday evening and we'll probably proceed at this speed until the end, when we'll have the first draft.
    It's unbelievable how well this anime goes with the music... Cristina has a really good eye for this, much better than mine ^_^; The footage seem to fall in place by itself, hehehe.

    Alright, I've already spent 2 hours writing in this thing. Let me pretend I am working now :p

    P.S.: sorry for any error and/or omission in this journal entry, but I don't feel like reading all of this stuff again ^_^;

  • Oh crap 2002-07-17 11:57:52 Well, for everyone wondering where I've been (yeah, I love that little round number) I've just been busy with the build 107 from hell.

    Geez.

    Ian is menacing to kick my butt if I don't release a new video in a few weeks... hehehe, the guy is really awesome. As I always say, I will release another video VERY soon. Or I will die trying. Or maybe both.

    If would only be able to cure my chronic "Power Saving Mode" it would be really better. You don't know what I am talking about? Well, seems that my body doesn't like to waste energy so, each time I stand still without doing anything significant, I fall asleep. I swear! I can sleep in almost every place and position possible!!

    Actually, some of my best cuts in my videos have been done while I was asleep :p

    I don't even know why I am writing these bullshits, bah. I would really be working out as EK is doing, shit. For now I just play soccer for 2 hours once a week ><

    Ah, my old kung fu teacher would kill me by looking at me now...

  • And we start.... again 2002-07-01 11:01:30 with another week of work. Ouch.
    Weekend was busy but very nice. We have been hanging around in Boston for the whole saturday with a stop at a very nice japanese bookstore in Cambridge. Man, this place is awesome. You see only japanese people in there buying stuff. When you see non-asian folks... well, all of them buy manga :p

    Since Cristina wanted it so bad, I bought her a couple of Fruits Basket's tankobon. I have to say that the manga looks even better than the anime.

    Now, if I only could read japanese ^^;;

    Ian:
    I already told you in chat but what the hell... the 30x30 video idea looks soooo cool. I'll try to make something really nuts for that.

    Ok, time to work now >_<
