JOURNAL: turboneko (Marco & Cristina)

  • Boring day... 2001-10-20 20:11:22 Not that much to say today... I have done basically nothing that I wanted to. I am lazy, I know. I had a terrible week at work and it left me kind of without energy.
However, today I was wondering on how people judge videos, based on my experience of the reviews I've done and read from others.
I don't know how others review videos, but I can tell you how I do. The things that I look are in order:

    1) How good is the matching between anime and song (and I mean in particular the sound and the mood of the music, lyrics came always later)

    2) The actual plot of the video. Lots of videos are "cool" visually or well crafted, but very little have a story, or try to tell something.

    3) Editing in general and use of digital effects.

    4) Audio/Video quality (less important).

So, why you should be interested in this? Simply you shouldn't... I just had this feeling to have to write some stuff on this subject. I often (too often actually) read what I call "typical .org review":

    Scores: all straight tens
Good: I love it! It's great!
    Bad: Nothing!
    General: Good Job!

What does it mean? Nothing, actually. Only that the biggest part of the users of this site are kids... and they enthusiastically review all the videos they like.

Before I close I would like to spend a couple more words on "Numb" by gambitt and NightOwl. I am sorry Nathan if I speak always to Jeff when referring to this video. I rewatched it just few minutes ago and I am always more shocked by the terrific work that you have done. I am actually dying to see your EVA/Fight Club video... I wonder when :P
Well, that's all for this time... no fun, no laughs.
If you want some of them try reading the couple of last posts.

    I'm off!!

  • Crazy people... 2001-10-18 09:09:38 I was just reading again what I wrote last night, plus some jurnal entries of other people around the site... uhm... I think that late night has a strange effect on AMV makers.
I know I didn't the weiredest post of my life, but take a look at dreddnot... oh geez. This guy has to be real sick or he's a complete genius (If it counts something, I go for the second, dredd!).

At this point I have another great idea (I already see people running away and screaming):

Step 1: Let's take a random bunch of AMV makers
Step 2: Let's quit sleeping for a random number of weeks
Step 3: Take a bunch of computers
Step 4: Screw up and mix all mouse/monitor/keyboard cords
Step 5: Start launching DVDs and CDs like freesbies in the room

After a resonable amount of time you can have the best AMV on earth and outer space and... yeah! Even better than the one of the monkey!
So, if you wanna really came out with a good video: DON'T SLEEP!!!

This is not a test... sir.

And now, coffee time... I believe I am still sleeping...

    - Marco

P.S.: Hey Jeff!! Did you fixed your modem? You got the best review ever on your EVA video and you don't leave two lines of comment?!? (kidding :D)
By the way... when you have the chance I suggest you to take a look at Cristina's Berserk video... here is something else I couldn't do now and ever :P
  • Nail your hand to the mouse! Stick your eyes to the monitor!! 2001-10-18 00:25:36 Because I have got this incredibly great idea that I think no one before has never got.

Step 1: just take a number of songs downloaded from the internet
Step 2: take a number of random clips taken from wherever you want
Step 3 (this is very, very important) take a small monkey and make it drunk with peach vodka
Step 4: open premiere import everything in (except the monkey), close the project and shake well
Step 5: by laws of probability you have 0.0000000000000001% of possibility to end up in the best AMV ever made... worth trying, uh?

And wazz up with the monkey? Well the point is that if you are able to read between the rows, you have probably got drunk together with her. And she may leave you the first valuable opinion on your video... oh boy, what and unbelievable combo!!

Just before I shut everything up, and turn the monitor because this fuc**ng computer refuses to "see" the printer, a couple of advices from your beloved one:

    1) stay safe, stay awake
    2) love and peace to everybody
    3) if you put the monkey in the drawer, the don't forget to flush the wc

Now I think I'll go out from the window...

    - Marco

PS: ...for everybody complaining I am at first floor... in the office.

  • G'd morning 2001-10-17 09:28:20 Journal hits are drastically decreasing... not that I care that much, but this can be the proof that I am really writing only bullshits :P
I wonder how the hell EK has more than 1000... but she probably writes more interesting posts.
Damn, I suck also in writing in the journal...

Today I think I will post no more because I have to move my ass and finish that artwork for my boss. I have soccer this evening, and he's very likely to come to me at 5:59 PM to tell "hey Marco, you have to do also this!!"

I was wondering about "originality" in these days... I mean, speaking about AMVs everything and the opposite of everything has been done. So, what's about originality? Many people here think that this stuff means doing a video with a never seen anime or a never heard song. But if you look at this, and at percentages, if you do a non DBZ/Linking Park video you are very likely to be rated high!!
    I was joking.
However this is not the concept of originality in my point of view. Originality means coming up with an *idea* never explored before or, since there are really not many, creating a video able to tell some sort of story.
I believe that coming out with an original concept is maybe the hardest job in AMV making. Basically AMV are anime + music, so there isn't that much space to experiment around, uh? And the hardest part is that once *one* came out with an original idea, all the followings will be "already been there, I've already seen this stuff".
It's real that sometimes the clone can be better than the original, but it will be always a clone and has its success due to the powerful idea of its ancestor.
    Or something like that.
Sincerly, I don't really know even why I am writing all this crap... probably no one is interested and it's something to which anyone can arrive by him/herself.

So, what's the point? Will I devote all my (poor and sucky) life of AMV maker to experiments, to "boldly go where no man has gone before"?
I don't know... I mean, I actually even don't know if I will continue AMV making!!

Ok, my boss is around... it's better start working if I want to play soccer this evening :P

  • Just nonsense... 2001-10-16 20:01:01 I didn't write in the journal for quite a while, it's strange for me but I have been pretty busy.
Today I was working on the usual stuff (damn Excel is still killing me) when my boss came in and said that he needed this particular artwork for tomorrow and he couldn't wait at all.
Result: it's 8:00 PM and I am still in the office... shit.

Days are passing and I have lesser and lesser chances to work on my video. I was joking a little bit when I was saying that it will take forever to complete, but now I am starting to believe that it's not so unlikely.
Uhm... I only want some rest today.
Yesterday I had a soccer game and both played forward and goalie (what a combo!) and I scored the first goal and saved another couple when I was in the goal. If this soccer crap bothers you it's ok... I know it's not funny or interesting, but my 5 neurons left can't give anything else, believe me.

Well, I guess it's time to get some rest. Please, if you have the chance reading this, go to download & review Cristina's Berserk video (Snow). I think it's really worthy...

Ok, time to go home... and SHIT! It's raining like hell outside!!
I guess I will not have to take the shower when I back home...
