Crappy banners
2003-07-18 16:15:38
Can somebody please tell me what's up with the banners lately? Never seen such amount of crappy graphics skills in a good while.
And if you want to be a smart ass and do good humor, please AT LEAST spell "Premiere" right (you know who you are, don't you?).
Bah...
The DDR track is absolutely becoming teh black hole of my editing skillz. I don't wanna dare to say it's cool, but I honestly like it (can't tell the same about most of my vids :p). I will have probably an hard time in concluding it (running out of footage... ta da daaa), but as far as now it looks really nice.
I really really really want to make this super crappy parody vid for the Expo, but I am inexorably running out of time... and guess what? My parents are coming on August 5th for three weeks. Wohoooooo... and there it goes all my residual editing time.... :rolls eyes:
Cristina's DDR vid it's looking good as well... it still needs some work on the "digital effects" side, but it's definitively cool. I think that the anime/song combo works really well... we'll see how it goes. In retrospective, I am not sure that asking for two tracks has been a good idea... if only we didn't wait until the last minute.... /me dumbass
8 days to the pro deadline, percentage of the pro entry complete: 10%
Geez... this really sucks. It sucks almost as having to install the damn Windows Server 2003 about 8 times in the past 10 days. The pro vid may never see the light... and this will be too bad since the pro is teh coolest contest around.
If you were so brave to read until here, pray for us.
I'm off....

The DDR3 tracks are killing us... and making 2 vids at the same time with the same computer is not fun at all (especially when you are low on HD space >_<).
But they are coming along quite good...
It really looks like that this year's DDR project is going to be blast: almost everyone is trying to make spectacular and visual appealing vids... whao, hopefully our tracks won't be forgotten :p
Talking about AWA, I am probably not going to enter the Pro (not enough time), but I'll try to make it for the Expo. Cristina might be able to enter though... but let's not speak too in advance.
Non-AMV related news: well, life sucks? :p

Work still sucks
2003-04-25 07:24:49
The release date is getting closer and closer and the bugs number higher and higher... ah, the old fashioned goodness of being a computer engineer!
I held this off for a week or so, but our Azumanga vid seems to be holding steady in the top ten of the star rating list...
::shock::
We knew the vid was fairly popular, but not SO popular. So, thanks to all the great folks who rated it so well ^_^
AMV related stuff: the moment of truth is now arrived and we are ready to start our DDR3 tracks. It will probably be impossible to repeat the success of last year at this point, but we'll work our butts off to make another couple of good vids.
Phemt *remastered* and the new Hoshi no Koe vid to go up to the carrot in this weekend: stay tuned ;)

Anime Boston Day #1/2
2003-04-19 00:10:24
Back from AniBo just now, basically just after watching the AMV contest only (couldn't take the day off from work >_<). Technically speaking the contest flowed quite well... the videos were nicely edited together, with cool bumpers and the intro was extremely enjoyable.
Now to the videos: there have been 22 entries in the novice category, 5 for the pro and just 2 in the masters. As I was expecting (being AniBo first year) only a few of them were really noticeable. A lot of "first videos" put together with downloaded footage, and an overwhelming number of dramas and action vids against the few comedy ones.
Videos worth mentioning in my opinion:
- Lain to "mirage of hope". This was in the master category and probably one of the most well edited of the entire contest. Not a rock solid concept, but with Lain as anime what do you expect? :p
- Black Jack to "Five Finger Crawl". Very good editing, but my gosh it's revolting ^_^;
- Earth girl Arjuna to "Book of Days". Greatly penalized by the low audio/video quality but indeed a good video, moving and with a solid storyline.
- Rurouni Kenshin to "Crawling in the Dark". Very well edited and lyrics fitting.
- One Piece to "In the End". God save me but I kinda liked this one... at least was a serious attempt to a story which worked quite well in my opinion.
Now to our videos. Cristina sent in "Phemt" and a new Hoshi no Koe video: they played respectively at position #23 and #26. Phemt came as first of the pro category, right after an Excel Saga video... it may be just me, but I felt like the audience attention was suddenly drawn to the screen.
The room was absolutely silent for the whole 2:25 of the video... in the end either everybody was so shocked that they almost forgot to applaude, or absolutely nobody understood it. Well, I am for the former, but Cristina is firmly convinced that nobody liked it (booooooo). Unfortunately the contest DVD was encoded with a different field order than her video... so it came on screen quite ruined. Oh well...
The other one, set to Hoshi no Koe, got a more "normal" applause after the end :p This one came out with the right field order but with washed out colors... I guess you can't ask everyhing from life >_<
As I mentioned, only a few AMVs stood up as good, solid videos... the rest were ok but easily forgettable (how many Eva videos I've watched? Many... too many... :p). Probably it's just me being so damn critic and picky, but I cannot help it :p
Funny note: as usual they mispelled Cristina's name in the ballots... so she bacame "Maria Crostoma Battaglia" instead of "Maria Cristina Battaglia". Luckily enough, the onscreen credits were ok ^_^;
Hmmmm.... it's time for bed now. Gotta wake up early for Anime Boston Day #2! ^_^

Total waste of time
2003-04-03 06:39:20
As I planned, our vids are not up on the carrot yet... wohooo! Maybe it's because I hate this Reverse Madness so much, I don't know. I'll ask Cristina to kick my butt tonight and make me work on them.
Random tought of the day: why people continue submitting such crappy banners? Oh man, we had quite a few lately... my unworthy list grows and grows :/
Gambitt: Happy Birthday man!!
