JOURNAL: Amizadai (Lee Amizadai )

  • Row, row, row your boat, gently down the stream. Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily... 2002-01-04 12:43:56 I just went to watch Vanilla Sky. It was pretty cool, but nothing to really shout about. I could tell you why I don't like it, but that wopuld mean giving up the ending... Which gives me nothing to write about. Darn.

I think I'm getting a little too caught up with the Nausicaa video I'm working on now. I think this warrants another viewing of Nausicaa! Yaay!
  • Hah! 3 gigabytes! 2002-01-03 23:02:17 Uh oh... I'm having trouble with my Nausicaa video... I have too many ideas and angles to approach it from, and I'm afraid that the video will lose focus if I try to incorporate all of them. I wish I could do a couple of versions, but both videos would end up having the same footage. Because Nausicaa is a movie and not a series, I don't have THAT many images to play with.

I'm currently trying to download Serial Experiments Lain from Morpheus. But I'm keeping them in cold storge for when I return to Australia to study. Back in the land of kangaroos and ozone holes, I only have an ADSL connection that only allows me 3 GB a month, so I don't get to download much anime. Hah, 3 GBs... the first day after the cap was implemented, I got an email from the ISP informing me that I had hit 50% of my limit. 2 hours later, I got another email - 80%. By the second day, I had gone past my limit. Aaargh. I think I shall reserve it just for downloading AMVs. In the meantime I shall download anime movies and episodes on my trusty cable modem in Singapore until I go back to study. Bad news is, I don't think I can push my flight to Oz at the end of the month, after Chinese New Year. It really puts a dent in my plans, because Chinese New Year is the time that relatives give red-packets - gifts of money. I was really hoping that I'd fatten my wallet before going back to Oz, but it looks like it may not be so...

  • Poko poko 2002-01-03 11:32:27 I watched Mizayaki's Pon Poko on DVD again last night with my sister. It was just as funny, endearing and sad as the first time I watched it. My sister kept asking me whether the ending was going to be happy or sad. I'm not spoiler adverse, and neither is my sister, but I couldn't answer her question. I had to tell her that it was both... it's really quite hard to classify. If you've watched it you'd know what I mean, but for those who haven't, I'm not spoiling it for you.

I've learnt that not everybody reads the ending of the book after the first two chapters, and that not everybody appreciates being told what happens at the end of a movie. (My boyfriend wasn't amused with me when I told him the ending to Sixth Sense.)

  • Murphy's Law 2002-01-02 20:35:15 Aaargh, the computer is acting up again. This morning I had to fire it up more than 5 times before it finally started. I guess I have no choice - it's off to the workshop with it. Sigh... why does this have to happen when I'm broke?

But now that the computer is on, I'm leaving it on until I take it to get it repaired. There doesn't seem to be any problem if I leave it on... it's only when I turn it off that the problems start.

    Sigh.
  • Finally started my first AMV! 2002-01-02 13:39:15 I've finally started on my Nausicaa video! Currently under the working title of "Free", the video is set to the music of the Gladiator soundtrack.

It took me awhile to get started because my video drives are full of some other project which I can't clean out yet, and my boyfriend is taking his time in flashing my DVD drive. I could do it myself, if my A drive was working. I think this is the 5th floppy drive I've bought in the last year or so. I have no idea why they always get spoilt... it's not as if I overuse them. It might be the BIOS, but there's no way I'm meddling with that... I'd probably wreck the settings of something else... like my video capture card. Aargh!

Anyway, I decided to go ahead with the video using my Nausicaa VCDs first. Of course, I'll remaster them when I get the DVD drive back. Using the VCDs solves my space problems... I only need about 1.2 GBs of space!

I have to admit I was quite terrified of starting on the video in case I wrecked it merely by working on it. But making AMVs is supposed to be fun! It's a hobby! I will probably suck at it, but what the heck!

But so far it seems to be going OK... my sister seems to like it so far...when she isn't whining about how long it's taking. She is under the impression that it's something that can be done under a day. She'll walk in, look at a bit of the project and say something encouraging. But as the day progresses, her comments get more and more caustic. "It's been 15 minutes. Are you done with it yet? Why are you taking so long?! Why are there so many black bits? Show me something new!"

    Gah.

Well, at least I'll have a ready audience once it IS done.
