Flat out tired
2002-01-19 11:24:05
I am so exhausted. I just came home from the wedding shoot today. I'm so tired that I've got a headache that feels like a too-tight hairband tightening over the area behind my ears.
I've become quite hooked on writing long journal entries, but I don't think I'm going to manage it tonight.

on the bad, no good, absolutely crappy day...
2002-01-18 17:39:37
Um... I probably shouldn't be here. I'm supposed to be getting ready for work. But if I didn't come on now, I probably wouldn't have read about EK's crappy day. EK, if you get to read this, know that you ave my fullest sympathies! I know how you feel! Especially about the cat. My cat was acting particularly weird last night - weird enough to draw comparison to the little girl in The Exorcist. She refused to let me touch her last night and got to howling and making really awful noises when I tried to get her to bed. And she tried to claw me too. My sister wasn't so lucky - she got scratches all the way down the inside of her inner forearm.
OK, OK, got to go.

"Ami, I got you a beer, it's in the fridge. Sleep early tonight, alright?" ~ the Mother
2002-01-18 12:13:15
Looks like I'll have to keep the journal entry short tonight... I have a wedding to shoot tomorrow (k'chak, pow pow pow!), so I got to get to sleep early. Chinese weddings start from 6 am and end at 11 pm... I spend the entire day on my feet, running all over the place. Thank God for mini DV cams... I remember developing biceps from my days using SVHS cameras.
The wedding I'm doing tomorrow isn't the one I ranted about a couple of days ago, but it's just as low-paid. Well, it's more like a favour than anything else. Moreover, Singapore's suffering a recession and I need the money. (sob!)
OK, got to go sleep... lucky I had a beer before, so I won't spend an hour staring at the ceiling listening to my cat snore.

"I don't want to talk about Cowboy Bebop." ~ the Boyfriend.
2002-01-17 22:15:58
Haha, my boyfriend has watched the entire C. Bebop series! He loved every bit of it… except the ending. I won’t give away the ending, but now my boyfriend’s so surly he won’t tolerate me saying anything Bebop.
He likes anime fine, but isn’t crazy about it. I’m surprised he likes Bebop so much – he says that the art was good, and the character development was fantastic. And we even had a discussion about whether one of the people in the team was Singaporean… three of the major languages heard when the ship is coming out of hyperspace are spoken in Singapore. Moreover, Faye is supposedly Singaporean. The episodes where Faye returns to her old home feature the Singapore skyline and the Merlion – a Singapore landmark. It’s a huge statue in the form of a lion-fish hybrid spouting water into the sea.
Hm. Maybe I should show my boyfriend some cheerful anime to get him out of his funk. Something like… End of Evangelion. *evil laugh*

"Look, I told you it was back step forward!" ~ the sister
2002-01-17 12:53:04
Woohoo! It turns out there are two other Singaporean AMV creators here... One of them Poolfan, the other Sephyre. I'm so happy there are people with similar interests where I live! With them around, I'm sure we could raise AMV awareness in Singapore. Unfortunately, the Singapore File Exchange Server is down. It's a locally based high-speed server that allows people to upload files for download by other people. Sigh, I just hope they fix it soon... I really think it's one of the best places AMVs could get exposure locally.
In fact, the first time I watched an AMV, a friend had downloaded it from there. It was an Evangelion AMV set to Queen's Final Countdown. I would recommend it if I knew who did it, but a search didn't turn up anything. I'm sure Waldo has it though.
Anyway, after watching that video, I went on a hunt to find out where they originated from. Imagine my ecstasy when I discovered that that video wasn't a one-off thing, but there was an ENTIRE community dedicated to creating AMVs!
Judging from the number of downloads AMVs get on the Singapore File Exchange Server, locals seem to appreciate AMVs just fine. Poolfan reported 31672 downloads for one of his videos on this server! I just hope it'll be up and running once I'm done with my Nausicaa video so I can upload it there.
Talking about Nausicaa, I got sudden inspiration for another Nausicaa AMV just today! It's a different kind of AMV from the one I am currently working on (working title "Free". Check it out!). This new one will pay more attention to lyrics, as opposed to editing to music like the one I started a couple of weeks ago. I don't know if it's common practice to edit more than one AMV using the same anime, but in this case, getting inspiration for another AMV is a blessing... I was getting really frustrated with the first because there were too many angles to approach it from, too many ideas to incorporate. Now I can use those ideas in the second AMV. Yaay!
Anyway, I was Lindy Hopping today. It was my second lesson, and loads of fun. And my sister and I managed to remember the steps this time. Last week, we realised we'd forgotten the steps when we got home and tried to show my mom what we'd learnt earlier. She wasn't impressed, watching the both of us lurch across the living room like a couple of drunks, arguing whether it was "back step, forward, back, back, step" or "back forward step step back".
Aaargh. I'd worry about confusing myself typing this out, if I hadn't written it down on my PDA. How sad is that, having to record dance steps on a PDA because you're too dense to remember what your body is supposed to memorise rhythmically?
I just love the Lindy Turns. They are so exhilarating... but after a couple of them, I get really dizzy and start worrying about crashing into walls or puking on my instructor's spiffy two-tone shoes. Bleah.
