2002-01-23 02:56:54
EK's site is back up again, yaaay!
My boyfriend's sister has just finished watching Cowboy Bebop and I wanted to cheer her up by sending her to this page on EK's excellent Cowboy Bebop site: http://www.big-big-truck.com/bebop/ttff.html
If you haven't watched Cowboy Bebop, I must warn you that it contains a spoiler!
I am currenly looking for a good cheap web hosting company... anybody have any idea where I can apply for some space to host my website and AMVs? Email me at amizadai@starhub.net.sg

The Art of Hot
2002-01-21 12:15:35
I hate Windows XP... I hate XP SOOOOOOO MUCH. I hate it more than period cramps, I hate it more than stubbing my toe, I hate it more than missing the bus.
You won't believe the problems I'm having trying to get my soundcard to work. I installed the soundcard from my NLE system on my sister's computer because I really wanted to listen to my MP3s and maybe watch a couple of AMVs. And guess what - XP hates my soundcard too.
I'm THIS close to coughing up blood.
Oh, but I did manage to watch Doki Doki's Harvey the Wonder Hamster video before the computer crashed on me. It's absolutely hilarious. I'd watch it again to de-stress, but my computer would most likely crash and I'd probably bite my tongue in rage.
Anyway, talking about hilarity, go check out www.engrish.com
Eg: (On the side of a paper cup)
"The Art of Hot
Side by side, I'll be yours forever.
Because please don't weep."

Just passing on the evil.

MCWagner is evil... EVIL!
I was reading his (excellent) journal entry and he recommended a rather freaky image. It's kinda like one of those optical illusion images, where it takes some time to see a highly elusive subject. You focus on the the doorway just behind the mattress for about 30 seconds and see something appear. It takes quite a bit of concentration, and a little time, but it's worth it. Or maybe not...

Remember, just concentrate, and don't give up until you see it. :)
PS: This is not my main journal entry of the day... go read the one below!

"Shoplifters will be handed over to the Police." ~ sign seen in a pirated CD store
2002-01-20 23:16:03
Good news! A friend whom I worked with to produce a short film has offered to lend me some money to get my computer fixed! Yaaay! So later today I'm off to Simlim Square!
SimLim is a mall dedicated to computers and electronics. It's where you get the best, the cheapest, and the widest variety. It was previously known to be the place where you got your pirated VCDs and programmes, but not since the government cracked down on it about a little more than a year back.
I don't know if you've ever been in a shop selling pirated CDs. It's usually run by hooligans - a couple of them handle the register, and more keep a lookout outside in case of a crackdown. When they spot what looks like the police moving in, they get all the customers out of the shop, slam the shutters shut and hightail it out of there.
There were patterns to the crackdowns. When Bill Gates visited Singapore a couple of years back, there was a MEGA raid in SimLim, and the shops stayed closed the longest time I'd seen - about a week. And then it was business as usual.
Previously, despite repeated raids, the pirates kept popping back up. For a country where simply having 20 grams worth of heroin or cocaine on you means the mandatory death sentence, it really looked as if the Singapore government wasn't trying hard enough. Then, a major, major embarrassment changed all that - SimLim Square was mentioned in some UN anti-piracy talk, and the Singapore government got dead serious about getting rid of pirate shops in SimLim.
So now, there aren't any (blatant) instances of software piracy in Simlim. If you want to get ridiculously cheap software, you have to hope your friendly neighbourhood CD pirates will show up during the occasional night market (a collection of makeshift tents and stalls) which is held in the residential areas. It's really easy to spot - it's the stall with the most people crowding round it.
Anyway, back to my computer. The major complaint is the screwy BIOS. I just hope I won't have to buy another motherboard or anything else drastic. I don't know if it's something common with other AMV editors, but my computer seems to conk out on me on a ridiculously frequent basis. Or is it just me? I know Macs have a personal vendetta against me...

Ooh, look at my bicep! It's so.... cute.

(11.57 am)
Hm, I've just re-read some of my previous journal entries, and all my talk of going for a wedding sounds like I'm the one getting married. Just thought I'd make it clear that I freelance as a wedding videographer.
When I woke up this morning, my shoulders hurt... Must be from holding the camera overhead for prolonged periods yesterday to catch the action at the wedding. I wish I'd developed biceps, but no luck. My upper arms just as soft and squishy as before. Eergh.
I was just looking at the entries for the AMV logo contest, and I must say My favourite is the one that features an anime eye as a musical note. It looks good and it's a great concept. I wonder who designed it? I hope that one wins. Unless of course, a better one comes up before the contest deadline. Hm... do we get to review these logos? If I knew who the designers were, I would.
