JOURNAL: Amizadai (Lee Amizadai )

  • I'm sorry mama. I never meant to hurt you. ~ 8 Mile 2002-02-18 12:54:42 I just came back from a VO session. Not my own... we actually got a professional to do it! It's for a corporate video my boyfriend and I are working on.

Less than a week left before I return to Australia... I feel like I haven't spent enough time with my family. Darn me and my stupid need to overwork.

I never did appreciate my family until I came back from Australia... I'm going to miss them lots this time when I leave. And I'll miss the cats too... I wish there were more stray cats in Melbourne...

I just rewatched the trailer for 8 Mile... looks like Eminem might just be a good actor. Anyway, I love the way they did the text for the trailer... and the songs pretty appropriate too.
  • dust bunny 2002-02-15 12:34:38 How the hell did I get so freaking busy?

I want to crawl under a carpet and hope no-one finds me.

It doesn't make sense. I work to earn money so my quality of life will go up. Instead, I find myself stressed out and in serious lack of sleep, snapping at the people closest to me, and with no time to do the things I enjoy.

The whole world is pissed with me because I don't have time to spend with them or because I am breaking promises to do things I said I would do. I get pissed back because I feel they are being demanding.
  • Cheap, good, fast... of these choose two. 2002-02-15 00:02:39 Some people... they pay peanuts and expect gold.

I just screened a video I did for a couple at their wedding dinner on Saturday. They were pretty nice up till a few days after the screening, whereby they called us and started complaining about how lousy the video was because the ending sucked.

Mind you, this is despite not having seen the video themselves because they were behind the screen when the video was shown. All they got was what people told them

Things got rather ugly... I mean, I know the ending was a little awkward, but how can they utterly disregard the fact that the footage towards the end had been filmed only the night before? There were time constraints! I did the best I could!

And they didn't take our advice on having a short commentary to guide the viewer during the solemnisation which was at the end of the video... so of course the video is going to be weird when it ends because nobody knows what exactly is going on! They asked why we didn't put in music... well, we didn't want to be insensitive and just chuck I've Finally Found Someone to accompany the footage to a solemn Muslim wedding.

And in perspective, doesn't it count that the only thing they were unhappy with - the 1 second of fade to black - is miniscule compared to the remaining 18 minutes and 28 secs worth of good, content driven video?! How come they don't mention all the times their dinner guests laughed, or reacted positively? They only remember the ending, which was A FREAKIN 1 SEC FADE TO BLACK.

They know nothing about editing, and yet they can complain that the solemnisation, which was a freaking favour in the first place, looked like "a cut and paste job" in the video.

Well, excuse me. Editing IS cut and paste. But what about the filming, the digitising, the timing, the looking to see if it makes sense at all... WHAT ABOUT ALL THOSE THINGS? I almost told them, yes, it is cut and paste. But would you like to see just how MANY cut and paste instances were employed to make the video work?

Plus, they insisted on coming on Valentines Day to finally view the video... AND they came an hour late.

So when my boyfriend and I finally met, it was about 10.30 pm, and we were in such a bad mood that we spent the entire dinner talking about how lousy they made us feel.

But at the end of the day, my conscience is clear. I know I delieverd a good video... a video that was worth a lot more than the miserable sum they are giving us. So if they don't appreciate it, it's not my fault... I did my job, and I did it well. I'm sorry the ending wasn't to their liking, but I wish they'd see things in perspective and at least appreciate the rest of the video.

My boyfriend brought up a good point... of these elements: economy, speed and quality, only TWO can be reasonably delivered. We went out of our way, did them major favours, and managed to give them ALL THREE. And they're still not happy.
