JOURNAL: Amizadai (Lee Amizadai )

  • It's like she's still here. It's like she's not gone. 2002-04-02 09:44:35 The following is neither funny nor easy to stomach. Please read no further if you cannot take the facts of a real-life tragedy.

I just heard the most awful news. My sister's friend has just passed away in a tragic accident. Crashed the BMW she was driving late last night. She was in the car when it exploded and burned.

Her remains were so charred that they could not identify her and have to wait for the results of a DNA test before they can issue her death certificate.

They cannot have a funeral until the body is identified.

She was only 20. Her birthday was only 4 days away.

My sister sent me a scan of the newspaper article with a image of the car. The entire car from bonnet onwards has been totally destroyed from the impact and the fire. Eye witnesses said the resulting fire was 2 storeys high.

For my sister, the reality hasn't quite sunk in yet. She says it's like a movie - she expects to come out of the theatre to find it all OK again.

We try to console ourselves by telling each other she probably died on impact. Or that even if she had been still alive after the crash, that she didn't last long. Sad consolations, don't you think?

But there is not much question that it was her remains they found - her belongings were found in the car, and she had been talking on the phone with a friend when she screamed and the phone went dead. How much proof does one need?

I don't know if this is the best place to post an entry like this, but I really feel like I need to write it out.

I don't feel anything, typing all those details out. They are just words in a textbox now. I hope they will look different to me tomorrow.

I wasn't even that close to her. Her family must be devastated.

I hope the tabloids don't make it worse.

I don't know what to say.
  • We come in peace! We are descendents of the germs you coughed into your keyboard! 2002-04-02 07:19:21 Chest hurts. Feel like I've been trying to cough my lungs out the entire day. Sleepy.

Eyes gritty. Been sitting at the computer making subtitle corrections to my indie film thingy for submission to a film fest. Not because the film is in a foreign language, but because the recorded sound is so awful that you can't hear what the actors are saying. We were young and inexperienced - we seriously thought the extras would make decent boom-people.

Been also working on a slideshow for the photo gallery of the website I'm working on... only to find out that the script tries to load all 145 images at one go BEFORE running the script. I couldn't tell because my computer loaded the local files so fast. Looks like I may have to resort to using the old redirecting script for every single image page. Whee. What fun.

I just hope this infection doesn't decide to crawl into my chest.
  • IN THE END, IT DOESN'T EVEN MATTEEEEEEEERRRRR ~ Linkin Park 2002-04-01 18:30:03 Posted on the AMV ML list today:

Subject: The end of AMV's on-line

These are sad times we live in and unfortunately I have to be the bearer of sad news. This message is of an urgent nature. Please read it in its
entirety as it directly relates to all AMV creators, especially those with
    an on-line presence.

Within the last few days several AMV creators have been contacted by
members of the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America). Most have been contacted with simple cease and desist orders but unfortunately they have decided to make an example out of some of the more well known
creators. In the larger scope of things this is something that many of us
saw as inevitable but unfortunately they plan on going a step
farther. They have been collecting data on our practices and have taken
notice of the large number of conventions which display our work. They
have decided that these conventions are going to have to pay for public
    performance licensing.

The saddest part of all this is that the attention was brought forth by
what is probably one of the more banal sides of our group of fandom: the
heavy usage of Linkin Park. The RIAA is using Linkin Park as a prime
measure of illegal music trading/downloading and with the advent of more
AMV webpages and databases on-line we came up on their radar. We came up
    bigger than we should have.

If this news saddens and shocks you as it should then I highly recommend
seeking out the nearest Linkin Park AMV creator in your area and informing
them of the situation. I suppose we'll all just have to face reality and
consider this the end of "public" AMV's on-line and the beginning of
underground AMV's on-line. I can't help but feel sorry for the thousands
of Dragonball Z/Linkin Park creators as this will strike them the
hardest. Without the ability to publically host their files and show off
their talent to the world these young people are going to lose what small
voice they had proclaiming themselves as an individual and not a product of consumer culture. Some may find religion but most will likely continue on underground where people will continue to not download their files.

Mark your calendars, my friends, as today marks the end of AMV's on-line.
