Of Mice and Mojo

Aaargh, I HAVE to watch more TV!
I have this assignment that requires me to write a 1,200 word essay on television... and I can't think of any recent show on TV I know well enough to analyse. I spend a maximum of half an hour a week at the TV, the majority of which is accumulated from glances on my way to the kitchen. The only thing I can comment on are TV commercials, because that's the only thing I hang around long enough to watch in their entirety.
Besides MTV, which I used to watch for the eye-candy and editing inspiration, I have been pretty impartial to TV. Even more so now that I am in Australia, and I don't know the schedule for the shows I used to follow/like/didn't hate.
I'm a media student who doesn't watch TV, doesn't listen to the radio, and doesn't read the papers. Wally thinks I am incredibly un-informed about current events. Ah well.
I've been thinking of getting a pair of mice as pets... I'm rather lonely in my room. I would have a cat if it was allowed, but a cat would be hard to hide from the landlady, and it would probably take it's frustrations from being kept in a room all day long by peeing on my computer cables. So no cat. But mice are another matter altogether... they're small, and quiet, and they have extra appendages - you can swing them around your head when you're bored! Whee! (I was just joking about that bit!)
I used to breed mice when I was in secondary school, selling batches of them to the pet shop and then using the money to buy stuff for the mice that remained. The most I had at one time was 27. Yeah, it stank. My mom finally got sick of them and GAVE them all away to a local bird shop. I was SO PISSED. When I went to the shop, I realised the idiot shop keepers and put ALL the male and female mice together, and in a few weeks, almost all the females were pregnant. And after they were born, the baby mice were sold WAY too young.
Well, this time, I'm going to make sure the mice I buy are females. No sex for them! Ahahaha!
I've started doodling again. Nothing much, crooked circles, dots, unsure slashes... I used to be a lot better when I was still in secondary school, but then I had textbooks to doodle in, hour-long lessons in which to daydream and practice my drawing.
Anyway, here is a picture I drew today.

I know it's pretty crude (in quality, not content!), but at least I'm drawing again. I'm sure I'll get better once I regain my drawing mojo.

You know, I am strange to you... You are surprised?
2002-04-25 13:36:46
My friend and I invented a little game on ICQ tonight. I type some messages in Spanish, and he goes to www.BabelFish.com and has them translated to lines of the most atrocious, but occasionally wonderful, poetic nonsense I have ever seen. Outside of www.engrish.com, I mean.
[1]
¿Que pasa Clemente? ¿Porque el silencio?
¡Ya nunca te veo! Sabes, te extraño... ¿Te sorprendes?
[mangled on BabelFish.com]
That happens Merciful? Because silence? Never I already see you! You know, I am strange to you... You are surprised? "
(note that I misspelt the word "porque". It's supposed to be "por que" for "why" instead of "because")

no muy bien
siento como que el mundo se desintegra alrededor de mi
[mangled on BabelFish.com]
I feel not very well because the world is disintegrated around my world.....
-------------------
Why this silly arrangment? I don't know. Maybe because I don't like talking about the deeper stuff I feel. Like love (even the platonic variety, which is the case here), or my current feelings of vulnerability.
I do feel the need to express these things, yet I don't feel comfortable having people know too much of what I'm going through.
BabelFish effectively distorts and basically undermines what I say without taking away the satisfaction of my having said it. Plus, it's a thoroughly novel way of communicating.
It's quite against the normal order of things. The way conversations go, people are always striving against misunderstandings, to make their meanings clear. The more they feel about something, the harder they try to make themselves understood. Heh, and here I am, encouraging bits of my soul to be run through some weird syntax to reduce it to gibberish.
It really does look like engrish, doesn't it? Doesn't take much to imagine some of the lines on pastel-coloured Japanese stationery.
On a Kerokeropi mechanical pencil: "That happens Merciful? Because silence? Never I already see you!"
And on a packet of Hello Kitty band aids: "I feel not very well because the world is disintegrated around my world....."
