Dr Spock

I have royally screwed my sleep clock again. I took a nap from 3 pm to 8 pm. But I'm glad I took that nap, because Dr. Spock spoke to me regarding music copyright.

Gaah, can't find my notebook!
I have this black unlined notebook (the paper kind) I carry around almost everywhere I go - it's where I muse, list things to do, doodle, outline... in short, it's a portable journal o' ideas. I have had 5 or six prioir to this one, and I love going through them sometimes, looking at the thoughts going through my mind during the period of life the notebook represents.
I have a PDA, but it's just not the same as a notebook. For one, your handwriting is not recorded, and handwriting says so much about your state of mind. I can look back at an untidy entry and think, oh, that was when I was feeling really crappy because I'd missed the bus. Or, this entry was done when I was walking on the street and had to stop to prop the notebook against the wall so I could write down a really cool line describing the sunset.
I got the habit while doing a job attachment at Reuters when I was in the Polytechnic. They gave me a notebook to carry around, and although it was for on-the-job kinds of scribbles, I got so attached to it. I think I still have it somewhere back in Singapore, full of partial quotes from PR officers and minister speeches which I never used.
The notebooks I use are preferrably quarter-of-a-page large. I don't know what that's called... A6, I think. Black cover, about a half-inch thick with unlined pages that won't dictate the way I write, not border in my thoughts. In Singapore they are quite expensive... about S$3 or so, but I go ahead and fork it out because I won't settle for cheap paper that will turn yellow over time.
Just recently though, I found out that the school bookshop in Melbourne carries similar notebooks for half price! I bought one A6, and another A5 (half a page large), and I'm going back on Monday to get more more more!! Woohoo!
Anyway, I still can't find my notebook. It's not a matter of just starting another, because I'd hate to lose whatever was in the previous one. I can't remember exactly what I got in there, but that's the whole point. You record things so you can forget about them and get on with your life until another spark of (self-opined) brilliance hits you. Keeps you from having to chant the idea to yourself so you won't forget if you get caught without a scrap of paper.
