JOURNAL: ProphetDK (Richard Marshall)

  • There 2004-11-01 13:34:54 An odd title for the journal entry as I had no other to give. heh. This weeks been at a glance very odd.

    Movie review:

as you know of last monday's game and ensuing rant. I went and saw "I<3 Huckabees" and I say I do not <3 this movie. and yes the title needs the "heart" as when you see it in the theatre markee it says I heart huckabees. and I chose to use the <3 as the title block of the Posters and the movie had a small heart on it.

Interesting it is in its philosophical nature in what we are and who we are in the grand scheme of things in ways that make me wonder sho wrote this screen play and what they may have been on so I can partake of it before watching it again to see the realness of it. This movie's main these is people and the goings on in our lives .. who we know.. who we are.. why we are the way we are... who we meet by coincidence and who we have contact with all the time and our relationships with the people and the places that we have been.

In a round a bout way it at least shows us the impersonality of human society and the ways we are drasticly different and the same at all times. Even pitting a few things together like the virtues of a christian family whose daily bread comes from the mass industrial society and the eco naturalist that views any indstrializing of our Petrolium is bad and the the little verbal back and forth this movie has them doing..

I am not saying that this was a bad movie, just a very odd movie. I cant say I recomend it to all people who like to watch movies. But if you want to have some thing to think about after, or discussions with some philosophy gurus, see it.

And Btw Dustin Hoffman and Lily Tomlin were a good choice to play off each other, good casting job.

    -----

showed my beta of my current vid in the making (not the chevelle Project) to a freind of mine, the only one that has seen the anime that it comes from. and he seemed to enjoy it and wanted a AVI of it. I calmly informed him that it is yet un finished and I want to see if I can make a bigger emotional impact yet, so at this time there are not copies.

But the responses to it are good so far. That is to say noone has anything bad to say about it. And trust me My previous works in my profile, I have had my freinds pick and choose the ones they like. one like how I did "then and now" but doesn't like "Requiem".. one doesn't like the lip sync in "Then and now"... "Wannabe"'s pacing is off.... so on and so forth...

So.. having them all say good things about it but one "I Dont like the song but its a good vid" gives me a good feeling about it. Yeah!

    -----

I have another "You know you're and anime addict when..."

...when you open your door to trick or treaters and the first thing that comes to mind when you see the costumes you dont recognize off the bat is "what Anime is that from again?"

    heh.

  • Ok hmm 2004-10-26 14:15:06 I am pretty much fine tuning my Chevelle Project vid this afternoon, It turned out ,I think, nicely. I sent in a early beta to Lightning to see if he liked it.

Nothing has come back yet tho. Hmm this week started out so tiring.. the weekend was not a good sleep weekend, just not getting the right amount of sleep these days. Feh.

Need to look into a FTP server software.

Monday game went on, and we had a few bumps, one of the players decided that he wanted to play another character, but he wanted to mess with our character's minds using psionics. Now its not a bad thing to have a goal but to mess with other characters is the appearent ONLY goal in a game is not fun for the rest of us. With the way things stand me and another player are going to have to be the Rules police and read up the psionincs rules, because appearently our DM isnt and we've already found some bad mistakes in the rulings the DM enforced on us.

I hate being the one to bring up mistakes in the games but Someone has to, I enjoy playing and if the rules are not being followed and the DM wont do anything about it(either by ignorance or other factors), who else will? I dont have fun when I feel the rules are sourly handeled cause to be fair to all people thats why rules are in place.

Bah, sorry about the rant -_-

  • Eherm 2004-10-18 12:32:18 Now I got WHR and watched it.. pretty cool series, I hope they make a movie showing what happens to the crew in like 5 years or something.. as A. hitchcock said, "leave them wanting more."

To review, it is more than the action and horror story that it sort of leads to with a title like "Witch Hunter Robin", expected a lot of hunting and alot of witches and their minions. Boy was that not true. It was filled with drama and the action never got too heavy. The laden back story was ellegantly pulled through the main story with the main character Robin in the thick of things even when she herself didnt realise she was the center of tensions of the rival factions.

A worthy to watch and glad I got them all. Good find too Best buy appearently had some deals goin on cause I got it all for about $100 rather than the 160 I was calculating.

but I do know that I have the footage I wanted for the Chevelle Project and some for a personal AMV if I get the muse to do one to WHR.

I will get them onto my HD this week and send in a beta asap.

on a side note my last AMV has had a stand still, something about it just keeps me from continuing, I hope the Chevelle Project is enought to push me out of that little rut. And the one after that one will be a doosy with the footage.. Boy Am I glad I have my external now :)

  • Ah life 2004-10-13 13:46:36 My beta for my new video got a nice feedback I let him know in advance to let me know if the story flows right and he gave me a thumbs up on it. He hasnt seen the anime so that is a good sign. His fiance' took a look at it too apparently and she commented on it well, too.

So all in all its good.. got to time something tighter and see if any effects deepen the mood more.

Game on monday, all but one of the players made it to the session and he may not be able to make it again ::shrugs:: not like we are complaining, the DM already seems at odds with the amount of players he has.

I am hoping to get my WHR to get on my Chevelle Project track going .
  • "to truly know death one has to know life.." 2004-10-11 12:35:14 An odd proverb from the movie: Ghost in the Shell: innocence. It was a good movie, If by comparison to the first they rate about the same to me. The director in this movie was in a way trying to convay a sence of realiy similar to the matrix, in what we are and who we are are but memories and comparisons to realities that we have already been exposed to. This was pointed out by the main character Batou in the following

Batou's new partner :"Is this reality Batou?"
Batou: "What is reality and what is dream? Its only after it has happened can we look back and compair."

At least as I remember it.

The ties to the first movie are there and I like how it managed to convay a space of time between the first movie and this one. The way this movie hinted at motifs and the almost reastic approach in some of the scenes gives this movie a definate visual feel. Cant say that i liked it but they were interesting.

On a diverse note the opening title sequence was... in a word wierd...

an 8 out of 10 I give it
