As they would know

Polar Express was a fun little movie, CG as it were is leaping in bounds lately but alas this movie fell short not because is was a bad movie, but because with Shrek 2, and The Incredibles this one felt a little unpolished in its 3d. Uncertain if its the time it was made in or the fact that the production may have been less than the two other CG movies this year.
On the product of a movie it was a bit on the odd mix of chrismas and A train. Which the dialog sometimes felt out of place and some things a bit awkward. It is a chrismas movie and for the time it came out it is something to see with the Chrismas crowds.
Oh and one of the children looked like she was going to be some sort of a stalker or something. Staring at our main character with a grin. Eh
it gets a 5/10 as its average for a movie and nothing keeps it standing out above.
Now onto random thoughts:
The last weeks been in a word odd, as My the way things are going I dont know when the bridge will break. Of sanity that is. Let see; my work has gotten wierd with my co workers. Some of them have some problems they let into the work place and its not my place to say what and whom.
My cats have been a little strange lately, meowing at odd times at nothing. Hopefully they arent becoming delusional, but hey One never knows. They may be sensing something I don't.
Finishing up a DVD for my sister's wedding. Editing live footage is fun too.

I would have the power to fly.

That is if I had a power.. to fly and go fast i would like.
Saw the Incredibles and that means another review.
Nice movie, when I saw the teaser trailer what.. lillte over a year ago now? I thought it would be a cool little animation. Pixar has gotten alot better with their own brand of CG. I can see the pain staking work in the vast back grounds and characters they under go. I can understand what they go through. It it not an easy process by no means but the technology is getting better.
I can just imagine the rendering times off the lights them selves let alone the polygons that make the scene.
But as for the "movie" aspect it was nice. The story flowed nicely with the comical placements just right to ease into the characters and their quirks. Although it did have a bit of Disney gleam to it, the main theme was original and worth a looke see for a family film.
With that I give it a 8/10.

I'm not that kind of wizard.

Ok so last night was our monday game. It was fairly good, the stumbles of the kids of the group settled when one had to leave.. why they are playing is beyond me. They are not ready and keep us from doing any flow from the game bt as I said some of the major bumps in the game went down when one left.
And so, for the past few weeks we have been building up to a climactic battle with a fierce Red Dragon. Anticipating and calculating the spells needed and the equipment that will be useful for the battling this huge monster that will probrably kill us before we get a good offence because of the fact that its a big dragon and dragons are tough.
We prepared then went to our task casting spells.. somehow finding that the dragon wasnt actually in the lair at the time, but soon we heard it coming in. Fankly it wasnt happy that we came in and took some of his nice treasures before he came back.
With our Dex heavy Archer getting the first shot as the beast started looking for us, the dragon slaying arrow actually hit and with a defening roll of the die.... The dragon failed its save.. Much to the dismay of our DM whose face matched our own as we looked at the number that came up.
We had joked earlier on the very chances that this thing would actually fail.. It was enormously tilted in the dragons favor.
That was it, the battle was over in one shot.
Funny as hell though especially when in the course of actions the DM thought we would use that one arrow (the only one we had) for the last ditch effort after the dismay of having party members fall and the like.. but of course the chances were the same so the archer risked the battle for the first shot. Good thinking.. If we are going to try it why not on the first shit when everyone is healthy?

what I wouldnt give for an edit button

Re-reading the last entry made me very aware of the spelling errors.. I thought I had gotten rid of them while I was typing, but alas I was also distracted so, feh. and fooeys. Finally got into fine tuning my latest AMV. getting all the timing Tight and the likes. Most of its timed like I want it but there are a few places where a frame or two on the timeline would make the beats that much sharper.
My Chevelle Project has a couple betas now and I will sent LCX a copy for viewing.
All in all not a bad weekend but like most I wish it were longer so sleep depraived for all of the things I wish to accomplish in two days like move one of the comuters to an actual desk I had to put together (not that time consuming I know).. Now its just fishing out the Lan Cord from the wall and re working it to the new location. and move all the requisite discs to their final resting place.
Before the big thrust in our mondays game last week, we actually had a remission about the character that was utilizing the discriptions of what he was trying to do wrong. So we basicly redid the meeting of the character and we hope that he will read *before* he does something in the future. I did however feel relieved that it wasn't me or the other guy that regularly brings up the misuse of rules but the guy that misread them to begin with.
I have been on a long fruitless search for the "shark bar" its a popsicle of sorts like the 50-50 or creamsicle if you will where the inside is strawberry and the outside is grape. I had it when I visited Korea a while back and for some strange reason I want one now... but of course every shark popsicle I run across is either the multy colored one with gumballs for eyes (street sharks) or the Lemon Popsicle (the Great white) oh well I am guessing either a) its only in Korea and the shipping for it is horrendously expensive fore export or b) they dont make them any more. still my search will be on the back burner and when I slide into a local oriental market I'll swing by the frozen treats for it.

Ray.
2004-11-03 12:23:22
OK Went and saw Ray. And so another movie review :
I am uncertain what the overall reaction is on the musician known to the world as Ray Charles. But I have to say that this movie at least is one of the best biographical movies I have seen in a while. This movie contains the emotional roller coaster of a good story in the life and times of one of the great Jazz / blues players of our times.
In short I enjoyed this movie and hope that in the future those that liked the mans work will take a couple hours and watch the story behind the man behind the music. His story is not all fun and games and the path her took as a blind musician makes for some great drama.
This movie as the critics have said will push Jaime Foxx into a lead condender for roles for futer movies. As the comedian/actor truly shows the talent he has in portraying Ray Charles. His movements his speach paterns mimic the man we've seen on stage and television with the emotional flow that is needed for this story to work.
The directoral and editing work on thei film was done very well.. the use of bleads and fades tryuly inhanced the scenes that make up this movie.. Most of the time it was seamless and hard to pinpoint the juncture of the cuts which is the marks of a good editor in films but there were a few incidences where I was pulled from a shot to see the transition. But nthing jaring
The music was nice, although one would think so with Mixes from Ray Charles as the main theme of the move. heh.
And with that I say I recommend this movie.
