Trying to install Linux on my 500mhz computer to try to get videos to play on it. so far I can only play mpegs smoothly (and beleive me, I tried EVERYTHING). In fact I got one XVID to play, Sierra Lorna's Trouble. THAT is the EASIEST Xvid to encode. I can't figure out what it is, but it's ALOT easier than anything else. Anyway that one plays at like 98%, but I'm DEFFINITELY not comfortable cuz everything else doesn't.
I didn't expect anything to work though, 256mb PC133 SDRAM (NOT even DDR :>) on WinXP... oh did I mention it's a Super 7?? lol (A K-6 2+ though, but). When I left this comp It was running W98se and internet over an ethernet connection. Now, unfortunately, I'm on a wireless network so I had to upgrade to XP. It's not that bad really, just another hurdle to jump through cuz the OS is a bit more resource hungry. And like I said I got one XVID to work so I have hope. And THAT is why I'm trying to install Linux. I got a Linux compatible wireless adaptor too... But for some reason my old hard drive just won't let me! I think it has too many bad sectors or something...
In other news the computer I wanted to throw together and pawn off is even worse off than before (:<). If I want to fix this Linux problem I COULD just pull my HD from that computer (A U/ATA 100 8mb cache HD) to replace this one (A U/ATA 100 2mb cache HDD) since their both IDE, plus the added cache will do it TONS of good. Also to put further delays on that computer, on top of the RAM I'm waiting for, the Heatsink is too big for the case. Now I can either replace the case or replace the heatsink... The heatsink is HUGE, I'm not sure if even the case I replace it with will be able to fit it, so I may end up replacing BOTH anyway. I REALLY like this case, but another bad thing about it, the drive doors to the 5.25" bays are built in. I have a manual drive drawer thing that simply doesn't fit with doors!! I REALLY want this drawer thing, it'd make things MUCH easier... So I'm pretty much thinking I gotta replace BOTH the case AND the HS for this thing *sweat drop* and MAYBE even the hard drive. I just can't win. -

you know, it's nice having my own computer back up and running again (*SCORNS roommates as he hugs his beloved new lcd *.*) but... damn it's slow.
I also got a connection box/ switcher thingy so I could play my old consoles on it... guess that makes up for the slowness... -

My Computer came in ;p
Sans RAM :< now I gotta have a good chat with Newegg about that. But everything else looks awesome, including the FREAKING huge heatsink/ fan I'm gonna stuff into my HTPC case -_- (Thermaltake Mega Typhoon!! about 120mm square) it fits my motherboard thats the main concern, the case shouldn't be a bother, I haven't really seen if it fits the case (it SHOULD though... but I'm also a bit worried about my 10"+ PCIx graphics card lol... small kind dimension problems with this build... should work out), but I guess there is no hurry as I can't turn it ON until Monday at least o.0 aah well, I'll sleep well tonight. I got a monitor AND HL2 the Orange (or is it black??? stupid thing) Box. -

I just beat one of the worst rpgs in the history of gaming! Evolution 2. It only took me 5 years, but... my last save was in 2005 -_- but... Well I beat it!! You know what that means?? a WHOLE lot of wasted time -_-, 40 hours+ in fact ;p now nobody can say I never beat a game that I hated, a game that caused me too fall asleep every 2 hours. Waking up after playing that game had to be done S~L~O~W~L~Y, it usually caused nausia and woozyness... It was pretty bad. But now I can say 'it IS true, that the BEST part of a bad game... is when it's all over.'
Oh, but the final battle was SO epic! Mostly on my part though... I don't know if I'll ever forget it. down to one final spell, just hanging on to life, no more items left. The enemy had been in critical for days it seemed, so I had no clue if he was close to death and *kaboom!* the final spell connects and he is dead :p. Boy was that a breather -_-. Lol well anyway it wasn't epic cause it was a great battle, it was epic cuz it was hard imo ;p... in fact the only part of the game that was really...
I know it's like 7 years too late but my final impressions of Evolution 2. Not bad, much better than the first one. VERY boring gameplay, but not half bad story, good setting. My primary complaint was inventory management. It was TERRIBLE from begining to end!!
Now I'm off to play the next bad Dreamcast rpg -

I finally cleaned my room today... after prepping myself to do so since day one. Brought my Gamecube and Dreamcast out of the closet cuz there's now room, and, you know, I could get used to this (over a dozen DC games and 4 or 5 GC games I hadn't beaten... some I hadn't even touched...) It's a wonder why I ordered 1100 dollars worth of computer supplies the other day *_*
Should be here by Friday... ooooooooh! I can't wait ;p and it's not like I have to pay for it either ;p... for another year that is. Why do I feel like I'm digging my own grave lol. No matter, fun timez in 2008 ;p. Oh, I plan to sell it. Like within 2 weeks of receiving it. I'm not THAT crazy (got it cuz I got half the stuff already to make a kickass computer)
