JOURNAL: dark studios (Bart Romanowski)

  • Dynasty Warriors 3 2003-01-02 14:04:30 I bought the game recently and will give you a review ^_^

The good: The game has a large variety of characters to play with each with their own unique skills and weapons. That gives the game hi replay value. It's nice to be able to beat the game with more than one character. Each character starts at a different level and are categorized into different army groups. The game has four playable modes: VS. ( 2 players can verse each other ), Challenge ( where you can choose between endurance training and speed training ), Free ( you can use any unlocked characters on any unlocked stage ), and Misue (sp) ( Anyway that’s the basic 1 player adventure mode. The games story revolves around armies fighting each other and you get a certain colored army depending on which character you choose. You get to use a horse and elephant ( elephant is playable only on one level ). Brown horses from majors and sergeants are the easiest to steel, although officers have white horses ( Which I like better only because of the color ), but you have to beat them to ride the horse or else you'll get knocked off. Also each character comes with their own power up that they can use when their magic meter fills up to full. If you happen to get low on HP, then it fills up automatically and when you use it, it's much stronger and cooler looking. ( Most likely resulting in a lot of flames or lightning ). Well that's the good now the bad :-(

The bad: This game is a hack n slash beat me up game. The problem there is that it is nothing like Diablo or Zelda. Those games involved strategy and skill while this involves endless button mashing until your thumb almost bleeds. ( Thank god I stopped playing or else I might not have a thumb today ). On some stages its impossible an I mean literally. An example is trying to get the dark moon flute ( the characters fourth and final weapon ) for Zhen Ji. You have to play it on hard, beat this guy then go get it and beat the rest of the level. Sounds easy right? Well think again. First due to the stupid short time limit on hard I tried to go strait for the guy, kill him, grab the weapon, and kill the finally officer. If you do that however you have the whole opposing army left, which is really bad since the finally boss hides behind his army of a billion men which you have to kill to get to him. And if you kill them he'll load up on the health they drop, making it impossible to beat him, since he keeps recovering. And if you go straight for him, his stupid army beats you down and kills you in a matter of seconds. >< If you try option two and try to kill the whole army then you run out of time. After that I tried using gameshark for infinite health but nothing works >< So I took the thing out went to the park and used it as a frisbe because a. That's all its good for b. I was soooo pissed. This game is extremely repetitive and I can't believe I got screwed into buying it. It was only fun for like the first few days then got extremely meaningless, stupid, and insanely difficult. So to save you from ending up in a mental institution DO NOT BUY THIS. You can however rent it for like 5 days because that's about how long it stay's fun for. Oh last but not least the horrible voice acting. They don't sound Asian and the voice just doesn't match the character. FFX had much better, especially Auron.

    The technical:

Video: The game had average PS2 graphics with good FMV's ( Nothing compared to FF10 but still )

    Final Score = 8

Re-playability = If it wasn't for what I said above there are many characters to choose from

    Final Score = 9

Life = Few good hours tops

    Final Score = 2

Overall = If it weren’t so dam hard and repetitive it would get a higher score

    Final Score = 4

In conclusion I have to say " If you must than rent NOTHING MORE."

Well I hoped this helped. ^_^
  • Project Started 2002-12-05 17:54:48 Well I'm glad to say my eva video started off sucessfully. Maybe its because I knew almost exactly what I was going to do. I have the first 12 seconds done and it only took 1 hour something. Only my ass thats pretty long. I think it was mostly because the song's intro requires perfect timing that is not easy. It starts off fast with many beats which requieres much editing. So I sliced and diced the hell outta my clips and came out with good results. I thought I was going to be short of some footage and didn't want to go off trail with the current setup. Luckly I went a little further and dug up a few clips. There was one that I had to set to 400% speed otherwise it wouldn't be timed, and it was the last of those types of clips so I really needed to use it. Well I'm done for today and will probably start working more on it tommorow.
