JOURNAL: Kariudo (Derek )

  • 2007-04-25 16:18:30 pretty good day so far ^_^
I actually had lunch today (between my thermo class and statics discussion)
    thermo discussion went well
in addition to eating lunch, I decided to treat myself to some icecream after my discussion.

While I was eating the icecream, my Statics professor sees me and starts talking to me.
I can't be exactly sure what he wanted (since I'm an EE major, not Civil Engineering), kinda felt like he was hoping I'd be interested in taking some advanced courses, or do some undergrad research or something.
Just the thought that I was doing well enough in the class to merit some otuside discussion made me a bit happier.

I should probably finish up my statics hw and I need to finish my calc tonight...depending on when I do that, I might also do some more work on my 5 second segment

tired (I think...my eyes feel tired)
for once I actually did most of my thermo homework the day I got it (though I still have a 2 page paper to write...yeah, you heard me. I get to write a paper for my thermo class. It's not due for another week)

going along with other people, I guess I'll post my tentative schedule for next semester.

    M+W @ 10-10:50am. Circuts 1
    M+W+F @ 11-11:50am. Engineering materials
    M+W @ 12-12:50pm. Dynamics
    T+R @ 11am-12:15pm. Discrete information structures
    M+W @ 4-5:30pm University Band
that puts me at 15 credits (max is 18...which I hope I'll never have to do)
I'll have to work out an alternative in case I'm not able to get into materials (may put me at 16 credits)

following the naming scheme I threw together for my classes this semester, I'll be taking Engineering Dynamic Band Circut Materials. (for those who don't know...and actually care, this semester is Power of Analytic Thermo Static Logic)

for those who have seen the crazy masking I did, I changed the background color from blue to brown; so that annoying blue... gone. It actually looks like strands of hair again. Started to work on the syncing for that clip, about halfway done with that (and guess what, the syncing involves more masking. At least these are nice, plain rectangles)

Last thought: I went to the front desk again today to sort out the issue with my account. The person who was supposed to come in didn't...but luckily there was someone else who was able to take care of it.
The money had been entered into the records, and a reciept attatched to the form I filled out...but it wasn't posted to my account (a stroke of brilliance on the part of the person who was just sitting around at the front desk on Friday). I got the money posted without too much fuss...now let's see if the same thing happens with my meal plan (which also is running out of money. I have enough for breakfast tomorrow if they messed up again)
  • 2007-04-22 22:44:08 finally, done with masking that evil segment.
who knew that 51 frames could require 32 seperate masks that last anywhere from 1 frame to about 3 frames
now I might actually get a beta ready in about a week. Depends on if I have to do any more masking (which at this point, I'm really hoping that I'm done masking for awhile)

this gave me something to occupy my time, besides doing homework (which I took care of on Friday and Satuday...for the most part)

@sky: wow, that is pretty darn bad. Can't say much more than that, but I hope things go better for your GF.

I was running out of money on my student card (gold account as it's called), so on Friday I decided that I should put more money on it. Not wanting to wait for it to be added until monday (which would've happened if I had written a check) I decided to get some money from the atm and use that instead.
I fill out the form, hand the money to the front desk...and I was told that it would be added in about 3 minutes. 2 days later...it still hasn't been added.
It was a really good thing that I had enough money to do laundry (the machine in the laundry area that is supposed to be able to take money and put it into my account wouldn't take the fresh bills I had gotten from the atm)
tomorrow I get to go to the front desk office to sort this out...special.

I only have to sit through 6 more lectures in each of my classes (and 3 discussions in each) Started planning out my classes for the fall as well. I thought that band would've been 3 credits (turns out it's only 2), and I have to plan around a class that I may not get (again)
at least I won't have to take another calc course for (at the very least) the rest of my time working on my 2 degrees here.

last thought for now: I ripped one of my 2 blue man group cds not too long ago, and I'm now on a blue man group kick (I was previously hooked on Eiffel 65). Maybe I'll try another round of searching for decent amvs using blue man group songs.
  • 2007-04-21 00:51:55 accomplishments of the day:
    did some more masking
    survived another week of college
    ate
    took a calc quiz
    drank some pepsi

there were only 2 questions on the quiz, both about method of partial fractions.
the first one was really easy...the second one was a bit harder.
I went through the method flawlessly, but I checked my answer and it came out wrong.
I guess that having a quadratic equation that yeilds imaginary roots in the numerator complicates things a little. after a litte "tweaking" of the method I think I got the right answer.

time for more ranting about masking!
yep...lots of motion in the clip I'm currently masking. it's about 2 seconds long and I have to make 18 changes to one mask...and then mask out some of the stuff inside that mask (it'l probably total about 10 masks each lasting about 3 frames before more motion occurs).
Thin strands of hair blowing in the wind may look pretty when your're watching it on a screen...but it's a nightmare to mask (spikey hair isn't much of a picnic either)

finished watching Code Geass, the last two episodes won't come out until the summer :-(
the storytelling is amazing, with well placed and well executed plot twists. I did not see the last twist coming at all, it's sooo~ good. The only thing that bugs me just a little (besides the kinda-wierd character design) is that all of the discoveries only seem to happen for one side (Lelouch's side)
if you can find your own means to watch it I highly reccomend this series
  • 2007-04-20 02:20:31 I'm actually feeling tired...it doesn't happen often, but I didn't really sleep well last night.
I think I slept thorugh my alarm that was supposed to get me up at 7am so I could be at an 8am discussion...I must've hit the snooze in my sleep and turned it off, cuz I didn't wake up til 8:30am (by the time I would've gotten to the discussion it would've been over...it ends at 8:50am)
no big loss really...so I just went back to sleep (making sure I turned on the alarm for 10am...so I could make it to my 11am class)
...this doesn't happen to me too often (maybe about once a year)

spent some quality time with my homework...the stuff that's due tomorrow is beyond hope (I've re-done the two problems that I am stuck on 3 or 4 times each) but I do understand the concept. got digital logic done (which we were given today instead of tuesday) got my calc mostly done (just need to draw a graph)

the stuff we're doing in calc now got harder today. I knew it was coming...I just didn't know when. The biggest problem will probably be applying the second shifting theorum on trig functions (doing Laplace transforms if anyone wants to know)

half of the masking for the 5 second clip is done (I've had my hands full this week...finals coming up as well)
...not looking forward to the next half though. roughly half of the second half has very little motion...but the other half has medium-length hair blowing in the wind (I'm sure it'l be a blast...hopefully I'll be able to use a few color keys or a luma key to do it for me)
