JOURNAL: Kariudo (Derek )

  • 2007-05-01 01:26:34 getting close to when we get to vote on the logos...really hoping that mine makes it into the final round.

did a bit of studying for my third calc exam, which is tomorrow.
...not feeling like it helped too much.
My professor tends to start talking, and then repeats one or two words about 5 times in a row. Doesn't seem to be the most organized or prepared either.
We [the class] got an email stating that the one problem (with multiple parts) from chapter 2 will be on section 2.8 and 2.9 (which makes me feel better, cuz that rules out variation of paramaters) but I'm not so sure that I can trust it.

we got two nice downpours tonight (so far), they hit really hard and fast...a wall of rain.
The only way I think it could've been better is if I saw people get drenched and run for cover (there were some people playing tennis through the downpours)
a bit of lightning and thunder too.

more free pizza tomorrow as there is another IEEE meeting. Presentation this time is from someone who works for GE healthcare.
I can't understand any of the technical details...yet, but I should be taking courses next year to start to fix that.

blonde moment of the week: I was trying to do my digital logic homework and there was one particular problem that was tripping me up. I was getting an sr flip-flop to have s and r equal to 1.
this can't happen for sr flip-flops...so I was stuck.
I showed it to a friend...who then told me what was wrong.
I had mistaken an and gate for a nand gate, made a world of difference
*the following is the best representation I can give without pictures*
and gates look like this: ===D---
nand gates look like this: ===Do--- (the little circle on the end makes it a nand gate)
how I thought that an and gate was a nand gate is beyond me...perhaps it's a signal that my brain is well done...all though...and chewy.

it's not like I've taken out a piece of my brain and masticated it
    <_<
    >_>
Nobody likes tough and chewy (with a few noted exceptions like saltwater taffy)
  • 2007-04-30 01:16:08 well, I went downtown today.
It was very nice outside, upper 70s-low 80s (which means that the heat was still on in the dorms)
I stopped at ebgames and picked up the last copy of super paper mario that they had...and so far it's a pretty entertaining concept. Right before I payed for the game someone had called in asking if they had any wii's in stock. I guess that it's still hard to find a wii, if I had waited til the summer to get one I would've been just as hard pressed to find one as I was over winter break.
Also went to borders and picked up a smashmouth CD (which are kinda hard to come by these days...)

worked on my paper a bit more, will have to work on it again tomorrow. It's up to about a page, I went off trying to relate phase change cooling to thermodynamics.

    then, I saw the thread.
I couldn't resist...I just had to do it.
    Sometimes I scare myself...

    read and be entertained

unfortunately all of this means that I wasn't able to work on my amv this weekend
    better luck next weekend
  • 2007-04-29 02:19:24 arrgh...the one manga that I'd be interested in buying, and I can't find a single bit of information about it.
    Typical...

the nfl draft was today...and the only reason I care is because the people who actually care about it woke me up :/ (though to be fair it was about 10am...I think. I don't remember anything besides that they woke me up)
weekends are my time to stay up late and sleep in, the extra sleep I get helps push me though the week.

started on my thermo paper...but didn't get too far.
did my reading for the week, now I just have to study for the 2 tests I have this week (and finish up thermo homework...only 2 problems, and I've already worked on them a bit)

time isn't grinding to a halt yet, but my motivation is running low again. Hit by another lack of motivation period today...so I decided to play some more Twilight Princess. I already beat the game, just decided to waste some time on the sidequests. (and for those who are wondering, my user title was inspired by the game)

It'l be really nice outside tomorrow, I should probably go downtown...just to get out of here for awhile. I might be able to get a new game, pick up a dvd, a cd or some manga. I really need to do something other than do homework or watch tv.
...which means I'll have to dig deep and get some hw done before I go to bed tonight
SUPER WEEKDAY SPECIAL!!! GIVE ME STRENGTH
  • 2007-04-28 03:02:30 updated my favorite anime list...I'd really like to have a few more slots, as there are at least 5 more series that I feel are worth mentioning in my profile

done with that 5 second segment (at least until I get feedback from my beta testers)
now I can actually get to some real editing.

    didn't do homework tonight ^_^;
not too suprised about that though.
I was on skype, but nobody talked to me (no big loss though)

went on a random google image search, found a lot of funny cat caption pics...my favorite was the one with the caption, "Happycat, has run out of happy"
  • 2007-04-27 15:51:44 last night I was struck by a motivation dry spell, just didn't feel like doing anything (even just sitting around seemed like a bother)
I starting watching Ah! My Goddess again, and that got me in a bit better state of mind.

I started to work on finishing my statics homework (as well as re-doing the 1.5 problems I got worng on the statics exam. We get to hand it in and get up to 50% of the points we missed back).
So after pouring some more sweat into that (I got stuck...again) I went to bed.

This homework is due in 1.5 hours, just finished it. Turns out I didn't quite have the free body diagram for one of the problems right, used my google-fu to dig up the book's site and got help from there...and then everything worked out in about 30 seconds.

For the other problem I was stuck on, I had 3 unknowns and 3 equations. I should be able to solve them and get my answer...but 2 of the equations were linearly dependent (one is a multiple of the other), so I had to improvise a little bit. (this homework was supposed to be about frames and method of sections...I had to get a little help from the method of joints)

so after I'm done writing this I'll probably drop my hw off...I should get started on my thermo paper today as well.

if I have time I think I'll try to finish up that 5 second segment (yes, I still haven't finished it...more masking to do). Hopefully I'll be able to get a 20 or 30 second beta out sometime this weekend.

I'm seriously considering ordering pizza tonight. Papa John's is running a UWM special, large 1-topping for $8.
Yeah, I know I work at pizza hut...but I like almost any pizza. Papa John's has some good stuff too.
I say almost any pizza because there has been one brand of pizza that I've tried that simply sucked. (I think they skimped on the sauce, which wasn't too great anyway, and used cheese cloth instead of shredded mozzerella)
I can't remember exactly why it sucked...because the last time I had it was when I was in elementary school.

Depending on how I feel I might actually be on skype tonight...maybe.
...one of these days I will

last thought: more complaining about my loud suitemate. Awhile ago I could her him over my headphones (granted that I don't have it up too loud...but I could hear someone about 6-10 feet away, though a wall, over my headphones which sit about 2-3 inches from my eardrums. That can't be the easiest thing to do...
At least it seems that he's being more courteous at night.
