JOURNAL: Kariudo (Derek )

  • 2007-09-05 22:35:37 heh, just read beth's journal from monday.
Glad to know that I entertain some people ^_^

lots of walking today. I think it's about 1/4 mile between the dorms and my classes...so I got to do that round 3 times today (3 times back and forth, 1.5 miles)
lugging my backpack and laptop around makes for a decent workout (that or I'm just really out of shape...which probably is the case :/ )

The T.A. I had last semester for statics got a professorship at my school, and now he's teaching my dynamics class. Always nice to have another class with someone who did good before

arrgh...editing block again. I just need to figure out something decent to take up about 12 seconds. hopefully it's something that I can figure out in the shower...and yes, you really do think more clearly in the shower. Maybe it's that you don't have to use your senses as much in the shower so your mind can process other information faster...

showers seem to be the universal solution.
stuck on math? take a shower
can't figure out how to get unstuck in a game? take a shower
spilled some concentrated acid on yourself (again)? take a shower
    stressed? take a shower
do you reek? TAKE A SHOWER

I think ima go take a shower soon

last thought for now: in dynamics we had to take a prerequisite test.
over the summer I'd forgotten a lot. With a little work I remembered a bit of it.
at the end, I finally remembered how to find the roots of an equation.
That's something that I've had to do for years...how could I forget it?
that would've left me with an even more sour feeling than it did.
came back to my room and had to review a few things. (specifically dot and cross product). still have to review load distribution

trust me, it's better than the alternative

got a little editing done tonight, though I hope to get some more done.
lookin like this revision will actually be worth the work

first day of class today, normal stuff. Syllabus, rules, etc...
actually had some lecture today, which meant that I actually got up for a reason

it's warm...no ac in the dorms. This is always the most miserable part of the year for living here. so whatever the outside temperature is...the inside can't be too far behind.
my computer is faring quite well imo...only running 7-8C hotter (it is about 7-8C warmer over here...and I stuffed my computer under my bed)

Thinking of getting a bit more involved in my university housing...thinking about trying the community review board (like court...but without the lawyers and the fees, and it's in the dorms)
resume builder + leadership training (between being a manager and a few other things I've done here and there, I have some...but more would be good)
it'l also get me out of my room for awhile...which is probably good since I know I spend too much time in my room here

last (random) note for now: my "location" on my forum profile was, "On the dark side of the oven" which I made up when I was cooking at the hut (for some reason).
No longer at the hut -> new location
new location = los taquitos unidos (translates to the united taquitos or the united little tacos.) Don't ask me why I came up with that...I just did.
if I had an explaination for that, I could also explain why I think about hard drive optimization and hash table optimization...which have kept me awake at night for hours [/weird]
  • 2007-09-02 22:35:12 fixed some computer related stuff today (so far)
I was wondering why I couldn't use one of my ethernet ports...I must've accidentally deleted the driver for it somehow.

got mah books. 3 used, 1 new.
kinda sucks when the book gets a new edition printed...cuz then it costs about 2-3x as much :/

I'm getting rather bored. Might start editing the registry sometime in the near future.
other computer-related tasks include me resetting the stock voltage and speed for my cpu. Turns out that it made no significant difference in the temp reported by both coretemp and asus ai Booster...so up it goes again.
Arctic silver ceramique + Thermaltake silent boost rx k8 wroks pretty well I think.
at first I was wondering why the combo didn't improve my stock thermal compund +hsf combo

AIM put up a fight. I can't really go online with my laptop since I already registered with my desktop...so I had to install AIM on my desktop.
The problem was, I didn't remember my password. so I clicked the "forgot your password" thing.
it didn't work, so I tried it again...and again, and again.
took about 10 times before it worked, but at least all my contacts were available when I actually got to log on (maybe they're stored in an online DB?)

messed up some of my plugins when I was trying to make fastlinedarken() work...so now I have to re-index all my vobs...
I hope I still have all of them...or I may be using a different anime for gateway
  • 2007-09-01 23:15:04 got everything into my dorm pretty fast.
it really helps that there was next to no one moving in at my time...and that all 3 elevators go to my floor

got myself relatively situated (though I have no idea where I'm going to put my laptop)
wii + ps2 + tons of anime (51 disks) = good times ahead

get to buy books tomorrow, but then I don't really have much to do.
...been up since 4:30am local time (it's 10:15pm now) so I'm getting a bit tired.
with a little luck, this'l put me in a good position to get up for classes (though it didn't work out so well last time)

...and I'm out of journal juice/fodder, maybe I'll think of more tomorrow
  • 2007-08-27 19:45:26 @sky
yep...that sounds like what I took a few years ago.
Calc isn't too hard (the hardest part really is the algebra)

beat tales of symphonia in about 40 hours...and now that I have my job-less "life" back I can resume editing.
except now one of my younger cousins wants me to bring over my old pokemon cards. I think I was in 6th grade when I started collecting those...some 8 or 9 years ago. (gee that makes me feel old)

went shopping for school stuff today, and because I can...I'll list the items:
toothbrush (the paint brush didn't work so well)
toothpaste (works better than plaster of paris)
floss (comes in handy when you need to tie up some drunks)
0.5mm mech pencil lead (does not taste like chicken)
laundry detergent (super mega big size)
5 notebooks (1 for each class)

tried to re-arrange my HD's so that it wouldn't end up mashing cables into my graphics card...ended up making it worse the first time...so I stuck my generic 250GB drive in the free external 3.25" drive bay.
it wasn't made to fit there...but it did so with relatively little resistance

last thought: I have almost no money right now. computer upgrades + AWA + housing bill ate almost everything up.
I'll get the money I paid for housing back from my dad (sometime), a bit from people staying with me at AWA, a bit from mail-in rebates (with a little luck)...but that doesn't leave me with much in the meantime.
I'll have to do some digging to see if I ever got the money from when my car was "totaled" by a hailstorm about a year ago too.
quitting my job almost threw a wrench into my plans...good thing I have backup plans
