JOURNAL: Kariudo (Derek )

  • Tasty, delicious waffles and... crayons? 2007-12-10 01:17:35 Kariudo Sanjuro (12:04:44 AM): you beat him?
BurningLeaves09 (12:04:54 AM): as much as I can
Kariudo Sanjuro (12:04:58 AM): is it with tasty, delicious waffles?
    BurningLeaves09 (12:05:19 AM): ... what a waste of a tasty delicious waffle
Kariudo Sanjuro (12:05:40 AM): that might just have to go in the journal

BurningLeaves09 (12:09:59 AM): as long as its not some personal 'omg when I was 8 I put a crayon in my-- 'or something overtlly sexual that could be taken the wrong way. IE not joking and It would have to be pretty bad like " Come take me where only a Crayon has been before"
Kariudo Sanjuro (12:10:34 AM): *journals that last line as well*

    the waffles are invading!
    'nuff said

  • 2007-12-07 19:15:53 Got linux installed and running on my desktop

not quite sure why it didn't like to work with my other hard drives...
come to think of it...not really sure why I wanted linux in the first place.
I should be able to do coding work on my desktop now, but I think that's about it

    so....yeah...

turns out that GSD vol10 came pretty much right after I posted my last entry
watched both volumes, and still like it.

    update on "the list"
    -having trouble finding any internships
-not close enough to being back home to set up temp job
-uhh, I want help setting up the information for the whois. I'd rather not use my address
    -beta? lol wuts that?
-that list has 3 items on it >_>

registered for classes next semester...and it sounds like I'm for a rough ride
class on monday from 2pm to 9pm
tues and thurs from 9:30am -10:45am and then from 2-3:15pm
    wed from 2pm to 7pm
...mondays are gonna suck, but at least I get to sleep in on MWF
  • 2007-12-04 15:15:43 end of semester is creeping up on me...
I gotta get some non-school related things done before I get bogged down with studying for finals :/
    -apply for internship
    -set up a temp job
    -publish Anime Milwaukee site
-make a half-decent beta for gateway
-send out a list of what I want for Chirstmas (I already have my two front teeth)

On this past Friday I got my lapping kit, so I got that back to my room and started making preparations almost right away.
Had to record idle/load temps before and after so I knew how much it helped.
Had to think about my work area, I didn't want to get super-fine nickel/copper particles over everything.

I told my suitemates, "If you gotta use the bathroom, do it now because I'm taking it over for about 5 hours."
it really did take 5 hours (maybe more)

For those not in the know, lapping = sanding down a cpu or heatsink (or waterblock) to make it flat (a mirror finish isn't as important...but it looks nice)
So I lapped my cpu and the heatsink that sits on top of it.
the heatsink didn't turn out to be a mirror finish (it was as dull as what I started with)...but it was flat.
cpu turned out a bit better...but not really, really shiny.

put everything back together (I also removed the annoying chipset fan on my northbridge and replaced it with a fanless cooler)
and once I got everything to work again (long story, won't bore you with the details) I looked at my temps.
My idle temps dropped 3-4C and my load temps dropped 5-7C
good stuff, I'm happy with the results.

still waiting on GSD vol 10...

last thought for now: the TA for my circuits class doesn't seem to be on the ball here...we got homework that was posted yeasterday that is due (for my discussion section) today. I got most of it done...but that's really pushing it. :/
  • 2007-11-27 17:38:57 hmm, not making as many entries as I have in the past...
    oh well

I'm ahead of my homework, which is really nice because that means I'm not spending every waking hour that I'm not eating/in class doing homework (also means that I have less excuses to not edit <_< )

I really gotta get working on gateway some more...I just usually dread trying to do stuff in AE.

Some quick stats about a few of my videos.
Most hits: s-CRY-ed let it all out with 1998 (so close to 2k)
I must protect is coming in a strong second with 1949 (51 to go)
Most DL's: Blue Trailer with 278 (202 local)
s-CRY-ed: Let it all out comes in second with 238

that seems good to me...maybe my next video (project name: accept) will gather more attention. One of these days I wanna hit 1k downloads

More upgrades on my computer. I'm getting tired of the high-pitched noise that my chipset fan makes while spinning at 6000 rpm, so I'm gonna rip it out and replace it with a passive heatpipe heatsink (passive = no electricity and no fan, and also no noise)
I'm gonna try to get one of my suitemates to buy a lapping kit (used to make surfaces flat for better heat transfer) since paypal doesn't like me card :(
using that on my cpu and cpu heatsink should get my idle/load temps down a bit further (53C load does not please me...not that my desktop is pretty much running 24/7)
I'll pay them back immediately, it's just that I need to buy it with a credit card

looked at classes I can take next semester...and most of them are night classes
so far it's looking like this:
    Electrical Circuits 2
    Electromagnetic Fields
    Computer Networks
    Engineering Economic analysis
Tossing around adding Basic Heat Transfer, Theory of computation and Data structures/algorithms

hoping to get the anime milwaukee site hosting and domain name plan bought on wednesday. That means that the website should be up soon after
*makes a few more final touches to the website*

Last thought for now: arrgh @deepdiscount.com
I ordered Gundam Seed Destiny vol10 and 11
11 got here yesterday...but 10 won't be available til the 29th (so I won't get it til about the 4th of december)
  • 2007-11-18 19:40:39 Homework = almost done
got my assembly language stuff done yesterday
    almost done with PLC
    done with discrete information structures

It seems to me that we didn't really spend a lot of time in Java in PLC, because we're now doing Prolog.
Prolog is almost completely different than any other language I've seen so far, but I seem to be getting the hang of it (that or the assignment is really easy)

had 2 exams last week, and they both seemed to go pretty well.
I finished the circuits exam in about 30 minutes at a comfortable pace. I didn't even have to use my book or notes (it was open book, open notes)

Dynamics had me worried, especially after the first exam...but I finished it in under an hour (90 minutes provided for that one)

got the results back from discrete info, and I did alright. Not as good as I'd hoped, but decent.

Put up a thread about Anime Milwaukee, the website is pretty much done. I have to change a few pieces of info here and there...but if I could put it up tonight I would.
Gotta wait for school funding to come through to buy the domain and hosting(it would be a nightmare to try to get reimbursed by the state)

didn't get any editing done this week :/
probably won't happen next weekend either unless I manage to get some stuff done on my laptop
    *begins file transfers*

I finally get to go home (for a holiday) before everything on campus shuts down, going back on the train on Wednesday. Not looking forward to the 6.5 hours of boredom that come with that train ride back home
