JOURNAL: Kariudo (Derek )

  • 2008-07-06 19:55:06 well...I thought I was safe
I got a nifty program that makes exact copies of a HD and moves it to another HD...I realized too late that it doesn't work for RAID arrays the way I thought it would.

    the result, re-install XP
so I get to spend some quality time re-downloading all my little programs and tweaks (on dialup primarily)

downloaded: firefox 3 (looks good so far), CCCP, AIM
remaining: a few years of windows updates (gonna wait til I get back to school for that one), antivirus+firewall, uxtheme.dll patcher, vdub + megui + dgindex +avisynth and all the rest

I was thinking about spending some time to do a reformat anyway (just cuz...boredom is great isn't it?) so I was prepared and made sure to back up all my premiere projects, clips, music, and a bunch of other stuff that I didn't want to lose.

Windows starts up like a dream again (right about 30 seconds from the bios screen to when windows is ready to run programs)

Good deal popped up in the local Sunday ads in the paper, so I moved myself over to circuit city to pick up a 24" Acer LCD (1920x1200 ftw)
Happy early birthday to myself (guess I won't be getting myself anything else for a while... :p)
...now I just gotta go hunting for some really big wallpapers
  • 2008-06-29 22:56:18 moar amke website updates.

It's been about half of the time I'll be working my internship, and now I see a glimpse of what I was hired to do (for reference, I was hired to do software but ended up doing hardware stuff so far)

One of the other interns that I work with turned out to be a fansubber at one point in time. Kinda nice to be working with someone interested in the same things as I am

    Finished .hack//G.U.
good series of games imo, tons of good amv material
/me wants to draw alkaid...but then
/me remembers most of my drawings don't turn out the way I want them to

    speaking of...
I get Wed, Thurs and Fri off from work this week. I should work on can't accept again (since I kinda want to enter it into pro and it's coming up on a year in the works)

I also gotta get goin on my logo design if I want to enter the contest again this year.

Last thought for now: Nothing seems to work out the way it should in the summer
  • 2008-06-19 20:51:53 yep, work is keeping me plenty busy
    I test stuff
    I blow some stuff up
I go around almost knowing what I'm doing

and then when I come home, I play .hack//G.U.
I swear, that darn game consumes your life. It's always, "uhh, I can go through one more dungeon" or "I can finish this task up real quick"
and then it turns into a few hour spree.

got an HIS radeon HD3870 which came with the black box (online version on the orange box.) So I've beaten portal now.

I need to start planning for AWA too.

    yep, busy Kariudo is busy
  • 2008-05-26 23:27:24 bah...busy week.

found out that I passed all of my classes, so I'm happy about that.
worst one was circuits 2 with the instructor who puts me to sleep.
naturally, the final for that class had twists on the problems which we never went over in "lecture"
done with that, hope to never have that professor again.

started my internship a week ago, and got thrown into the fray right away.
so I have some idea of what I'm doing for the time being. It took 4 days before someone finally asked me for the paperwork that I was supposed to have on my first day (I had brought it with me every day until I finally got rid of it.)
nobody knew where I had to turn it in...so I had to wait til I got an email that said, "you need to turn in your paperwork or we'll have to suspend you."

so one week after I start I finally get to go through orientation.
fun times, gotta love communication gaps between companies (which is what caused this problem :/ )

stormy day on Sunday, there was a tornado touchdown about 3 miles away from where I am. A bit of hail, a bit of rain and a bit of wind...but the storm wasn't anything to write home about. After the storm, my mom and I went out to eat (since we had no food in the house >_>)
ended up getting a flat tire, which is what I spent the day taking care of.
Those pneumatic air guns the dealerships use are nice...until you have to undo the lug nuts without one. All I have to say is this, WD-40 is my friend.

When I'm not at work (which did turn out to be full time) I've been playing Devil May Cry. Dang! hard game...it's a bit nice like that but the difficulty is bordering on insane. Currently stuck in the "Mirror realm" fighting the nothings...and just after I defeated nelo angelo for the third time too.

Spent Friday night and Saturday night at friend's houses. Friday was fun, watching people get drunk while playing Dead or Alive 4 is good times...and someone actually rofled
  • 2008-05-16 01:58:29 last final tomorrow (and naturally the one I'm most worried about)

then it's laundry, packing and celebratory pizza for me (not necessarily in that order though...I'll probably eat the pizza first)
roommate moved out today, but didn't do any of the cleaning :/ (not that I'm too surprised. The pig only took out the garbage twice the whole year [once on my prompt].) Caught him in time to have him take down the shelf (which needs to go back on the desk)
University housing charges people $50 + labor to clean up a room/suite if it isn't clean enough.

At least I'll be able to sleep when I want to tonight (sans snoring, mountain of empty pop boxes and rotting leftovers)
...maybe I should vacuum and all that jazz tomorrow too.

Busy Kariudo is busy, calling people back and forth (I think Wednesday was the most calls I've made in a day...after my two finals and 3 hours of sleep.)
I think I have everything set to start my internship on Monday (everything is hinging on if the results from my drug screen come back tomorrow.)

While I was out and about I ended up close to another mall in the area (technically in the next town over...but if I can get there by bus it's all good.) Now I might actually be able to catch a movie next year or spend some time browsing the best buy.

On my way down there I caught sight of the gas prices. Yikes...might start saving money so I can buy a car with better gas milage... gonna be almost $50 to fill up my tiny 1987 Mercury Lynx (which gets somewhere between 22 and 30 mpg)
