  • 2008-11-17 20:29:22 new forum is new...and different

it's definitely going to take some getting used to. Also, my Lulu avatar got lost when the forum was upgraded.
I know I have it backed up somewhere, but I can't find it.

When I last went avatar hunting I was looking at getting a Haseo one...but couldn't find any good material. So after a bit of digging I found a few pics with avatar potential...and after a little masking I have myself a brand new Haseo avatar.

I'm so used to seeing my Lulu avatar that I almost miss my past posts in topics and/or think it's someone else

That will always be the case, regardless of party.
Just ask yourself this, why did you vote for who you did (assuming you voted)?
and why do you think people voted for Obama?

In my opinion, people who vote without reading up on the candidates shouldn't vote :/
My roommate's girlfriend was really upset (like, crying and screaming upset) when McCain conceded (and then proceeded to call every 25 minutes until 2am.) The kicker is that instead of thinking for herself, she blindly voted for who her parents tell her that they are voting for.

My big qualms with the American public (or just people in general):
    1) It seems people can't separate church and state
    2) People don't think for themselves (or if I felt like being pessimistic, can't think for themselves)
    3) On the rare occasions that they do think, they only think about themselves and the short term
    4) People don't care about other people's perspectives

    and while I'm still ranting...
people and cell phones...It seems to have gotten to the point where people will die if they turn their cell off (be it at night, or in class/exams, or in the bathroom, etc...)
Seriously, has anyone been in a final in the past 5 years where someone's cell didn't ring?
Just because you don't have class in the morning doesn't mean that the people you are calling (or the people within earshot) don't as well.

  • 2008-10-29 22:52:15 just spent my entire evening messing around with avisynth some more.
I gotta say, fft3d is awesome. What's even better is the gpu version of it.
I can do better noise removal (took 25% off the filesize of my .mp4 test encode. 6001 frames, 3:20 duration, 12.7MB to 9.47MB) and it works about 3x faster than my old standard smoothing chain

    The other thing is animeIVTC()
One filter that deals with pretty much every telecine method seen in anime (so the creator says) It'l really come in handy the next time I run into something like last exile

The only bad thing about animeIVTC is that it takes a long time to get set up (because it requires about 15 different filters)

  • 2008-10-25 00:47:36 Particle physics makes my head SPIN. It's kinda STRANGE that whenever I get bored I look UP information on random things. Why particle physics came off the TOP of my head is beyond me.

In other news, this time could've been better spent editing
    that is all
  • 2008-10-23 23:04:04 bah, con drama :/

    The background:
Anime Milwaukee is an event run by the Japanese Animation Association at UWM, and the JAA president appoints the con coordinator. The staff for AMKE and the officers of the JAA are usually two separate groups of people.

Last year, tons of drama and lots of hustling...but we got everything done in a good time frame and enjoyed a very relaxed pre-con week.

    The drama:
This year, JAA president (same president as last year) starts by wanting to bring sci-fi guests and panels to the con. Personally I think that although anime fans are likely to be sci-fi fans as well, we are trying to run an ANIME con...not a sci-fi con. After his ideas get a less than warm reception, the pres starts complaining about ideas being rejected and a lack of communication between the AMKE staff and the JAA officers.

This culminates in a message to me (the vice coordinator for this year) saying that getting updates from me is unacceptable (and he flat out refused to give me the power I need to do my job, and wouldn't grant the AMKE treasurer the records needed to make our budget)

    The catch:
We aren't running things any differently than we did last year, the only difference is that last year's coordinator retired, making last year's vice coordinator the new coordinator. The pres was told to come to our staff meetings (he wanted to be our guest coordinator) but hasn't made it to a single meeting and hasn't told anyone why either.
As a side note, most of the JAA officers are staff this year.

    The conclusion:
The pres is starting to look power hungry to some of the staff, and given the way our meetings are starting to be run I can start to see that as well. I think it boils down to the pres lacking trust in the current coordinator (for whatever reason)

    fun stuffs

in other news, last midterm was today and it was incredibly easy. Today was nice compared to yesterday
