  • Jerusalem / Is waiting for you / To rise once again / So we will slaughter in the name of Christ 2001-12-22 02:11:59 Yah, so um, a quick religous thought I wanted to get posted somewhere, but not encouraging debates here. I was listening to poor mans' crusade by Demons and Wizards (Blind Guardian/Iced Earth) And got to thinking...but first the lyrics:

The Holy Ghost can't save you anymore
Your souls are condemned to burn in hell
    Damned for all time
    So spoke the noble one
    He convinced us all
    He is a gifted man
Though he will slaughter in the name of Christ

    Holy and bright
    He's a devil in disguise
    Protector of the cross
    Beware of the snake

    chorus:
All in all it's just a poor man's crusade
    Poor man's crusade
The Holy Land home of our blessed lord
Enslaved and stained by godless hands
    They shall be damned
    Jerusalem
    Is waiting for you
    To rise once again
So we will slaughter in the name of Christ

    Holy father, holy father

    chorus

    You'll shed your blood
    Your bodies fall
That is the price you'll pay
To cleanse you of your sins
    Vicious and cruel
    Let's kill them all
    Let's kill them all

So we will slaughter in the name of Christ

    Holy father, holy father

Ok: So after singing it for a while, and not really paying attention too well to the lyrics, as I generally don't, I kept thinking, wow, are they anti god? As I listened more to the song, I began to realise it was more along the lines of a Noble who convinced Christians to go out and *ahem* spread the word of God, which more or less what the Crusade's were about, if I remember at all my history, which I don't. So, what was it that I thought?

    <deep thought>
Is it God that man hates, or is it the representation made by man of God that man hates?
    </deep thought>

I remember ani-punk's post a while ago stating how he hated God or something, which, of course, I'm not trying to single him out, but it did kind of fuel this thought process. I'll give you that sure, I'm cathloic, but no, I'm not a follower of the church by any means. I do not agree with much that the church offers. I believe in God, but I've been wondering of late the statement above. ok, I'm done being philosophical or whatever.

  • The Review. 2001-12-19 14:48:03 Ok, I have seen Lord of The Rings, and I have been awed. HOWEVER, there were 3 truely dissapointing things, that, with the book fresh in my head, made me unhappy. But first the good.

The Good: The colors were vivid and bright, right from the opening sequence of the Shire. All the names have kept their stronghold, the history of the ring is depicted nicely, The Ring itself is awesome, the characters did an awesome job, and they actually SPEAK elvish! The Fight Between Saurman and Gandalf is awesome, as is the Balrog! The story didn't deviate to such an extent that it would anger anyone, which is a big plus too.

The Bad: 1: Umm...can we say, the House of Elrond? What the hell was up with Rivendale? Sure, it was beautiful scenery, but over 75 pages of the book took place there, and it's cut into about 20 minuites of Elrond arguing with Gandalf. He hardly seems very nice. They didn't depict him or the stay very well...the Counsel for discussion was also brutal. 2: Lothlorien: again with the cutting of scenes. In the book, they stayed for weeks, got presents from the Elf Queen, and it was apparent she was the holder of one of the Rings. Depicted? Hi, we're going to kill you, but first, lets take you to our King and Queen. Queen: "Go to sleep." All: "K." Queen wanders around in the middle of the night and Frodo follows her, "Will you look into the mirror?" WTF WAS THAT? 1: it was day. 2. Sam and Frodo were supposed to be there, and the Mirror was explained! GAHHH!!! 3: The end. Frodo just kind of wanders off on his own, instead of being asked to choose a path, it's like they never even THOUGHT of setting out for Mirth T..whatever. GAHH AGAIN!!!

All in all - While these 3 points truely disturbed me (they could have tacked on an extra 15 minuites or removed some of the White Tower scenes and gotten all of that in) I doubt everyone will see it this way, and it didn't really affect the enjoyment of the movie, and I give the directors credit for attempting to get what could have easily been a 6 hour movie done in 3 hours. Some stuff had to be cut out, but it was a great movie, and I'll be seeing it again in a few hours, this time, to WATCH the movie, and not nitpick it ^_^
  • FINALLY! 2001-12-19 08:32:24 One Ring to rule them all. One Ring to find them. One Ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them.
  • T Minus 13 Hours and 10 minuites. =BORN IN A MOURNING HALL!!!= 2001-12-18 21:46:50 Ok, well, here it is, less than 14 hours from the show...and I'm so excited I'm shaking. My friend who manages his dept at the grocery store asked the day off some 6 months ago. Got the day off, and now he's gotta work. He knows I'm going in with or without him. Heh. Finished the book tonight, and was quite surprised with the ending, but a pleasent surprise. ANYWAY....*drool*. Mmmm...tickets for the 6:30 show, tickets for the 11am show..I'm uberpshyched! Must listen to blind guardian.

Gonna scan the tickets tonight :)
