I'm gonna answer this one too...
An action AMV to me has to have a story or a hook in order to make it compelling. You have to care about what's happening, or at least be interested enough to care about the characters used. Otherwise it's just like, a clipreel of cool scenes to music, synced well or not. A lot of people would argue that this falls under the "Action/Drama" crossover genre... and they wouldn't be wrong. So like, an action video like SSGWNBTD's "Angels Made from Neon", while it's FUN and expertly made, doesn't really stick with you so much as something like Aggressor's "W.itch for the night" or Shin's "Written in the Spirals."
Of course, this is just an overview. If you want to get technical, I think there's only a few different schools of thought concerning action videos. Sync is incredibly important and hard-cuts are favored over any type of traditional transition. I think the structure of the video is also quite important; you always want to keep your climax in mind and up the ante both in your clip usage and editing techniques.

"Flapping my dog to this." Wow! I guess I'll take that as a compliment...

Done with this semester. Grad school is so OVER until next month. I should have just enough time to finish my Casshern Sins video. Because like, if I don't finish it soon, it will never be finished. And that would be a shame, y'know?!
