  • 2003-05-07 17:11:49 PRM: I couldn't agree more... It's been a while since I've seen a good, on-topic banner.

ladydx: ..... My heart goes out to you. I can't even think about what I'd do in a situation like yours. You and your family have my prayers, I hope your mother recovers...
  • *this title for rent* 2003-05-07 07:53:01 Tom: Sorry to hear about that... I think it would definitely suck to get nothing but negative feedback on things you work so hard on. Constructive critcism is one thing, but just plain mean-spirited is just wrong. I'll never understand why people are mean just for the sake of being so. Or maybe they do it to make themselves feel more important. Irrelevant of motivation, mean people suck.

I'm also a bit saddened to see that the last two or three star ratings Samurai Windu had to be around 2's, causing it to drop from in the 20's to nearly off the top 100. I realize not everyone is going to like it, and that all told the star rating system probably shouldn't be taken all that seriously. But, with only around 10 total reviews of all my videos combined, it's the best indicator I have at the moment of what people think of the videos...

Didn't get as much done on the Dai-Osaka Rap as I'd hoped last night. I had forgotten to grab clips from 3 of the episodes and had to do that before getting really started on it. I'm probably going to have to spend more 'camera time' away from the main character of the video than I initially intended to, but it should turn out for the better. I also think I thoroughly confused Iserlohn with the alpha of it- I mistakenly assume just about everyone here has seen The 5th Element. :p Sorry JC! Tonight I should get more done. I hope to have the primary scene layup done tonight and just have to go back and get the lip sync right. Ambitious, yes... but I don't have much else better to do :p
  • Split Journalalities 2003-05-06 07:52:40 With the acquisition (assuming that's the right word for it :p ) of LiveJournal account, I'm going to try and limit entries here to somewhat of more related to AMVs and related stuff and put more off-topic (i.e., mindless typing) there. For the few who may actually read my entries here and want to read those, my account there should be easy enough to find... I don't have much reason to be creative with screen-names :p

Right, AMV related stuff. I'll see if I can actually focus on that with the STUPID ALARM GOING OFF IN MY EAR. *grr* I'll rant about that over on the LJ shortly... Anyway. I almost have all of the clips for my new, quick Otakon video ready to go. It's probably going to be called "Dai-Osaka Rap". It's kind of requiring a different approach than normal for me. I'd normally just pull from the whole episodes, but this requires a whole lot of a very minor character whose scenes are spread out all over the Daiundokaia TV series (Kanonji I think his name is-- the Dai-Osaka TV reporter), so I've been going through and making HuffYUV files of his scenes to make things go more quickly. The video should be a lot of fun when it's done... the short section I've got mostly finished so far has me snickering at it at least every time I watch it. I just hope that it gets counted as an AMV an is allowed to compete... but even if it doesn't, it should go over well at the MAT3K. I'm really hoping to get it finished up in the next few days... I -really- want to get my NES Project video seriously underway and finsihed as soon as I can. Ideally finished by or as soon after ACen as possible so I can get into what I need to be working on- my AWA video.

ACen is just a week and a half away now. w00t! I can't wait. Hopefully the contest will go smoothly and my entry will make the cut for the contest (It should, I think it's pretty good and funny... but then, I would -hope- I would like it ;p). I've heard there are a number of other good entries, including Euphoria, so I don't hold out too much hope for winning much- at best I may have a shot at Best Comedy, but I know Comedy is a rough category at ACen. I'll be quite satisfied if it just gets shown in the competition and at least one person comes up to me and says "What the smeg was that!?!?!". :)

  • Slow Friday 2003-05-02 10:12:26 Fridays at work always go slowly. Hopefully biking in and getting some exercise early in the morning will help that a bit- when I lived someplace with a gym where I could swim before work it helped a lot. Unfortunately, with the threat of heavy thunderstorms hanging over us for the afternoon, instead of riding in I drove. Costs more and doesn't get me any exercise, but keeps me much drier and gets me home much earlier. Meh.

I've just about finished watching back through BGC2040 for my NES Project video. It's quite funny at times watching it back at 2x speed on WinDVD. While I think I'll limit myself to 1.25x when watching something new, if I'm just reviewing a series to find useful clips 2x is wonderful. I can go through the better part of two 4-episode discs on the train ride in and back. While I've found most of the clips I want, I still have the hard part left... playing through and capturing the NES footage I need for the video. Oh, and I still have to get another copy of the song (MetroTransFunk), as my copy was lost when my 2nd hard drive crashed a month or so ago. I hope this doesn't turn out horribly... :/

Two weeks now until ACen. At times, I rather hate actually having a video I think will do well in a competition. I'm almost looking forward to Otakon, where I probably don't have much of a chance at all of winning anything (unless WLtFO doesn't win anything at ACen... in which case I'd figure I wouldn't be likely to at Otakon either...). You'd think I'd know by now to not worry too much about it. I know well enough that my videos are generally good enough that they won't get booed or anything and will probably be fairly well received. But somehow, I still worry that the entire crowd just won't get it and will hate it.

I don't think I'm going to like next week very much :/ My wife will be gone from Tuesday through the following Monday with her mother staying with her grandmother, who is having knee replacement surgery. Her going is definitely the right thing to do- but I'm going to miss her a lot. With our work schedules we have so little time together as is (well, I think so at least... only about 3 hours or so waking time during the week). And the Thursday after she gets back I fly out for the weekend for ACen. *sigh*

  • Mac Daddy 2003-04-28 11:04:34 I'll never totally understand why people are so devoted to Apple and Macintoshes (not the fruit, though I like Golden Delicious better)- just about anything my wife can do on her Mac, I can do on my PCs. No, it doesn't take two of them to do what her one can do, either could do it. And they cost less combined than her new 12" G4 laptop. True, we only spent $500 on it (as her parents paid the rest) but still- the thing cost nearly $2000. And they're tards (well, from my end- it's actually quite good business sense, given how loyal most Mac people are) and don't have a PC Card slot on the 12" G4s, so if I want to get her computer on the wireless network we've got to shell out $100 for the AirPort Extreme card. It's just nuts. However, she does seem to like the smaller form-factor G4, and it has a lot more power than even the new iBook she traded in to get it. And if she ends up taking the class this summer and picking up Avid with the student discount... *drool* One of these days, we'll be out of debt and I'll come up with an excuse to buy the 23" Cinema Display LCD monitor...

I feel like a smegging ping-pong ball. I may yet end up putting together and sending in something completely new for Otakon (assuming I can't send in WLt'FO due to the results of ACen... I'm keeping my fingers crossed). A conversation yesterday reminded me of an old idea from waaaay back, that I could probably do well and in very short order- assuming that the track it uses is considered 'music' ;p

I had a neat run-in yesterday while shopping for a dirt cheap commuting bike at Wal-Mart. I was wearing my old club's Macross 7 Fire Valkyrie T-shirt (in public, much to my wife's dismay), and a HS or college aged couple (I have trouble judging these days... I'm getting old...) said "Hey! Cool shirt! Where'd you get it?" I always love it when people like my club's shirts, since I usually had something of a hand in their design and production, but it's a pity that usually there's no way for people who like them to get copies anymore. But it was cool to run into people so close to home that would recognize the Fire Valkyrie.

Test runs of WLt'FO on a few more close friends over the weekend have yielded quite nice results. I still need to get some idea what someone who hasn't seen the source already thinks of it, though. Not that I can or will change anything- it's probably going to be uploaded for submission tonight. But I am an engineer... I like to have some data to say that something will work the way it's supposed to beforehand :p
