JOURNAL: Ashyukun (Robert Babcock)

  • More snow 2003-02-10 15:18:27 Wow, this seems to be the month of snow. I'm hoping it doesn't snow too much this weekend though, don't want to get stranded/delayed in my train rides to and from Katsucon. Katsu is less than 96 hours away- this time Friday I should be all checked in and hopefully met up with my roommates and friends.

I have to wonder if I'm actually gonna get to watch any anime at the con outside of the AMV contest.... there'll just be so much to do! I imagine my going to the AMV panel won't be particularly optoinal (something about rooming with the guy(s) running it... and if for no other reason than for Vic to be able to say both drunk -and- sober people made the panel hell. :p ), I want to make it to both the MT panel and Piro's drawing panel (time to dust off my sketchbook and evict any spiders that have taken up residence), and of course see the AMV contest showing(s). Oh, and there's supposed to be a party sometime... or, from what I hear, multiple parties.

Yesterday I got started on and finished up most of the basic clip selection and layup for my Tekkoshocon entry- with some luck I'll get the final syncing and adjustments to it done this evening (assuming I don't get dragged into watching Joe Millionaire tonight), and if I'm feeling really ambitious, try out a bit of audio tweaking. The Star Wars TV Spot is being put on the back burner until I can get this finished up... while the actual clip selection and adjustments should only take about 6 hours or so, the effects work for it are going to take a -loooooong- time. My goal is to have zero frames of the original trailer in the video while keeping as close to the original's effects. Even if I don't succeed at this (I've never ventured into AfterEffects' 3D space before, and this will require that) it should still be a lot of fun- and rather wrong at the same time. :p
  • Yuki da! 2003-02-07 07:53:20 It snowed last night Wai!

Not enough to close down work! :/

However, it might get me out of work an hour or so early... my boss is very good about letting me head out early when there's inclement weather since I have to deal with all the delays in the public transit I take to get to and from work.

It'll also be nice to have it around over the weekend. We don't have any particular plans so far, so playing out in the snow like we're half our age might be fun for once. Maybe we'll even get one of the nekos to come out and play as well.
  • Here we go 2003-02-06 07:08:09 Well, this journal thing has been sitting there taunting me for a while now, so I suppose I should stop just letting it sit there and actually use it.

It's now just 8 days until Katsucon. Woohoo! I'm really looking forward to it- I finally get to meet some of the people I've been chatting with and such around here for about 6 months now in person. It'll also be the first time I'll see any of my own work shown to a decent sized audience. I'm still somewhat surprised Dark Metropolis made it to the finals. I honestly didn't expect it to without a specific trailer category.

I'm almost hoping that there isn't too much in the way of Azumanga Daioh stuff in the dealer's room... I really want to try and keep what I spend down (I'm probably spending more than I should just going to the con, but I believe it's worth it). But I just know if I find a plush Chiyo-chan in the penguin suit, or a stuffed Kamineko or Yamamaya I'll probably have to buy them. I'm kind of disappointed that AzuDaioh was apparently computer animated so there aren't any cels... I'd love a couple of cels from that show.

Oliver (one of our cats, see profile) never ceases to amaze me, both because of his determination and his apparent lack of common sense (or, more specifically, the linkage between the two). Yesterday I made chili for dinner, and my wife poured a glass of milk to go with it in case I made it too hot. Oliver, of course, decides this glass of milk had to have been poured for him, and proceeds to try and drink it when my wife sets it down on the coffee table. Twice he either got picked up and put elsewhere or smacked lightly along with plenty of emphatic "No!"s. Traci drinks a bit, and puts the glass down where it's closer to in her control- on the floor next to the recliner. Oliver is almost instantly there trying to drink it, and gets shooed away. I finally get up and get the water spray bottle, and spritz him when he makes a move for it again. His fur isn't even dry when he tries it -again- and gets even wetter. One of these days that neko will learn cause and effect...
