JOURNAL: Iancarr (Ian Carr)

  • 2003-04-11 04:22:41 2 am, that means I can check out the movie times for the new movies hitting the theater this friday. Sure I could have checked other sources to see what was being released this week, but I was lazy, and besides it is never a sure indication that my theater will get a print.

Not a lot of exciting stuff, I'll go watch Anger Management but I don't have really high hopes... I love Jack, but this looks like serious over-acting/bad script writing to me. Previews lie though, and I get free movie tickets, so what the hell.

Bend it Like Breckham looks... I don't know, I had never heard of it before, and reading the short description on the official website only helped a little... maybe I'll ask around the theater, but maybe I'll just go see that too.

Oh, I saw Phone Booth the other day, it was excellent.

And in case you are wondering, (obviously you are not, because there is no specific reason to wonder this at all) what I thought about Chicago. Well I've already seen it 4 times (good every time).
  • 2003-04-10 21:53:56 I just finished watching Porn Star - The Legend of Ron Jeremy on DVD. It's a documentary in case you're wondering, and it's funny as all hell. Aside from being enlightening, and doing what a good documentary ought to do, which is put a very realistic and human face onto an abstract kind of legend like Ron Jeremy.

Seriously, do yourself a favor and rent this video. Provided you already know who Ron is at least, I don't know how interesting it would be if you're getting to know him for the first time, and you'll need to be able to tolerate a lot of naked women, naked men, and a bit of pornography.
  • 2003-04-10 20:30:42 So I'm hanging out at Borders book store after class today, I just sat down and read Wolverine's Origin story cover to cover (which was great, but I wanted more), I'm wondering what to do next, when I get a call from work.

    "Hey Ian"
    "How's it going?"
"so... are you doing anything today?"
    "That depends, what's the shift?"
"I need you to cover the rest of my shift, until 5, I'm real sick"
"Yeah, sure. I'll be there in 40 minutes."

So that's how I spent my afternoon. Why did I ever give them my cell phone number? It wasn't really that bad though, and it isn't like I don't refuse to cover shifts all the time too.

Walking sucks because when I try to walk, or extend my legs, my calves hurt like a bitch. All thanks to adding resistance to my calf raises as of two days ago.
  • I just saw this 2003-04-10 01:18:40 So I notice that next to the TV there's a VHS movie I haven't seen before, its bright yellow and looks like the case for some cheap kids movie, like the kind my parents used to get me from the library's crappy collection when I lived in a small town and was too young to demand a movie that took more than $10 to produce.

Looking closer, it is a kids movie, but its much worse than that, the title is: "Kids tell kids -- What it's like to have a family member with Cancer"

Thats the kind of shit you find all over the house when your mom works at Hospice (an organization for helping the terminally ill and their families). What a downer.
  • What's on my plate today? 2003-04-09 18:26:58 So about a month ago I finally realize that I've got a fast computer with a 80 gig HD and a DVD drive... all the pieces clicked into place and I knew that I had to get back into making AMV's again.

I don't have access to a ton of anime's (I'm really cheap, seriously). But I work at a video rental store that is known for having one of the best anime collections in the surrounding 100 miles or so, DVD's are only recently starting to poor in, but I've got some choices to work with.

Here's the deal, as far as other people go I really am not too particular. As long as it's good I'm all for anime DBZ or Eva vid set to some overdone rock band like Linkin Park or Metallica. Hell, send it over here if it's exciting and tightly edited.

But for myself... I've got really strict standards. I realize any anime I can get my hands on has been used at least a dozen times before, but I don't want to do another Eva or DBZ vid (which sucks, since I've got access to nearly every one of those DVD's).

So first I thought I'd do one to GTO, since I've been watching that lately, it's funny as hell, and it hasn't been used a whole lot comparitively. I can't decide on a song though since I refuse to use a song that anyone has ever used before (or at the very most maybe one or two people who used it but did a sub-par job). I work for almost a week whenever possible figuring out the process of ripping and preparing the clips for use, which was tricky because I was having a lot of trouble with the installed copy of Avisynth on my laptop for some reason... I can't remember why, but I've figured it out by now. I switched from song idea to song idea without much inspiration, and then decided to just delete it all when I decided to use Key the Metal Idol instead.

I'll just have to try not to bite off of Kevin Caldwell's Sleep Now video, which I've seen about a thousand times (and in case your wondering where I side on that whole debate, I'm firmly on Joe's side on this one, although I think he is way too critical of Kevin in general).

Once again I keep switching songs. First I thought to use a song off this albumn of Tuvan throat music, which is this monk guy who can sing in up to 4 simultaneous octaves and harmonize with himself. Then I going to use a song from the RENT soundtrack, which I still may do someday because I think it'll make an excellent video. But then I started watching Funkmeister's Hellsing video constantly, and I decided I needed to pick a song with a faster tempo so I could get some super fast editing practice in the video so I found this really great 8 minute long fiddle and accordion song from Silly Wizard (a celtic band) which is awesome in a way that you probably have no idea (since statistically, you the reader, probably haven't ever heard anything like this). I got it down to 3:50, although I don't like one of the transitions in the song I made, so I put the video on hold (I might still make it, if I can ever get the music sounding right).

At the moment, I'm making a various anime video set to Tenacious D - Fuck Her Gently. Which I think will be fun to make. Although I have no idea if I'm actually going to release it... probably not. But maybe if it turns out really well. It's a short song though, I'll get a lot of practice on lip syncing (which I've never done before), and it should be fun to show friends.
