I do want to say thanks again to Sub0, Orwell and Dax. (and sorry if I missed anyone else). Got some VERY good feedback on ideas for what worked/didn't work in my latest video. I just did an overhaul and will post it sometime in the next 2-3 weeks. (Playing games with AMV release dates because of the ML Contest I'm involved in. I want to give my all-time best (Naru-85) a couple of shots before I bump it out of rotation.
(Genestarwind has a contest set up like a baseball game...they take your last two AMVs and you face off against other contestants in a 1 on 1 'game'. Its set up like baseball or football divisions and eventually there will be a playoff involving each division winner and wild card 'teams'. In my case, Naru-85 and Negima are my two
'active' players (Inter-What is newer but not elegible due to its hentai content.) The next AMV I upload bumps Naru-85 out of the rotation.)
I had uploaded a good copy of the first draft to Youmacon for their contest but they e-mailed me back that it was too violent for their standards. BUT - They are happy to show it during their all-adult Friday night show. They're also showing Inter-What???. I'm tempted to rent a car to go to Troy MI November 11 just to see how the audience reacts to >that<. :) -

Well, things look pretty good so far. A few rough edges but its looking better than I expected.
Beef #1- I'm not fond of the title but I just can't come up with anything that will draw attention to the video without drawing >too< much attention. (BTW - Excalablog is the name of the spiked club.) Just going with 'Boot to the head' is too blaaa. I'd considered someting like 'Bloody love song' but I really want to downplay the violence aspect...As Sub0 pointed out, I'm already expecting to catch some serious flack and don't need soemthing to draw the admin's attention even more. (I hope people get more of a laugh out of this and treat it more like last year's 'Chibi things that meet ma duce'...violent yes, but not in a horrifying way.)
But Excalablog accounts for only half of the violence...the dodgeball game is MUCH more violent IMO. I'm not sure if naming the video after the club is the best solution either.
Beef #2 - I really busted my tail to improve my beat synch. After I completed the 1st draft I just took a day off and took a second look at it again last night. I 'tightened' a few scenes and am much more pleased on how they came out but there a few 'beats' that I let pass to develop scenes more fully. Nobody's complained but that bugs me a bit.
Beef #3 - One reviewer noted that during the first part I was "too literal" for his taste but the second set confused him. I think he got the 'grease monkey' in refering to "mechanics who can't fix a car". The political reference was playing on the cliche of kissing babies but dosen't really work. I'd originally scripted the scene where the teacher (same character) is shown briefly changing into a girls school sailor suit in another part but couldn't find that clip when hunting for scenes and was afraid it wasn't very long. (The shot passes VERY quickly.) Maybe I should have used the very last scene in the series of the statue of Mao. (?) - Thanks Dax! 2005-10-20 01:20:33 Hmm...
