  • ups & downs 2005-01-25 13:47:48 My home computer got some sort of nasty virus last week...maybe more than one. Either way, its almost totally hosed. I've started backing up as many video and other files I possibly can and getting ready to do a complete wipe.

What may suck is that the computer came loaded with Win2000 (pro) but no master disk. I've got Win98 and I also just got a slightly used copy of XP. I've got the keys for XP, but that activation thing scares me. If the last guy to own this fouled things up I'm gonna be pissed.

I really wanted to get busy on a new project, but between computer aches and family wanting to get out of the house, I haven't had time to sit.

On the home front - daughter is getting kind of scary. She fixtated on me since I'm the 'nice' parent and mommy's the 'evil' one. She's been dropping none-too-subtle hints that the 2 of us would be better off if mommy ran away and has said so >to< mom. Daughter gets upset when I push for us to go out as a family and would rather be alone with me.

    Yipes!

Practically overnight, Naru-85 shot past Presidents as my 2nd most hit video. (And a mere 4 downloads shy.) Its also less than 100 hits/30 downloads short of Girls.
  • And the winner is...... 2005-01-18 09:01:10 First I want to talk about how the audience received Naru-85. (At least from my perspective.)

At the main showing, the opening chorus bits with Motoko and Su drew lots of laughs. don't really know why but it was a very good sign.
Other showings were not as wild but I still heard chuckles.

On the second showing. the crowd started clapping along with the music for the rest of the song.

The next BIG laugh at every show was the 'yellow SUV". I was pretty surprised how well this went over. It was a throwaway scene to me but the audience ate it up.

The first run through the chorus went pretty much as expected. enough people got the 'NERV-ana' joke and the Bono reference.

The middle part was gold. The laughs kept on coming with Naru punching ouut Keitaro, and kept growing. Cheering broke out during the Dragon Half scenes (I need to consider doing an AMV focusing on Mink next year to show.) and the audience absolutely went nuts during the 'no limp bizkit / dragonball' scene.

The second chorus round was a bit more subdued...the scene where the little boy is making devil horns didn't draw the laughs I was expecting. I don't know if people just didn't get it.

The final rounds of the chorus picked things up nicely. Excel got cheers, The DearS scenes got laughs, and the audience went nuts for the Goldenboy scene as I'd hoped. (I wonder if everyone is still guessing exactly what I was aiming for here...I'd really was comparing Nirvana to heaven but I think the scene reminds people of Kurt Cobain a bit.)

Girls passed Presidents as my most downloaded video, but naru is gaining on both of them.

    Oh yeah, Naru-85 won. :)
  • Live from Ohayocon I 2005-01-16 06:12:59 Its abut 6 am Sunday Morning. I've sat through 2 of the 4 expected AMV contest showings. Winner will be announced at 4pm today at the closing ceremonies.

I'll pass on more details later, but I want to mention details about my video which I don't expect to win....Girls who like Girls.

Response at both showings was....'ok'. Not the howls of laughter I'd hoped for but I know only 2 other comedy videos that got even less applause.

Someone sitting behind me commented "If only he'd done Yaoi instead of Yuri."

Yaoi ('boys who like boys') seems to be the 'in' thing and I definitely was playing to the wrong crowd.

maybe I ought to use the song again but use clips of boys instead of girls. :) Something to think about before next year.
  • Let the good times roll! 2005-01-14 07:59:32 Today is Ohayocon. (Finally!!!) Found out Naru-85 cracked the top 10% in the sentimental catagory. (Currently #54!) Hopefully, someday it'll make the 10% comedy.

Got some opinion love for Naru and Shark Attack. Same guy did both of them, rated (points) Naru higher as I would have expected but in his top 100 videos has Shark (#3) OVER Naru (#5). Oh well. Feels good seeing >2< of my videos on someone's list other than my own. :p

Star ratings are way up accross the board. Life is good.
  • Interjections! 2005-01-12 07:44:13 Show Excitement!
    Show Emotion!
Its usually set apart from a sentance by an exclamation point!
Or by a comma when the feelings not as strong.

Sorry, but I'm feeling >really< good right now. Scoob gave Naru-85 some love in the VCA nominations page over the weekend and I almost missed it. I decided to search to see if any keywords I use had made it into the VCAs and it worked.

(Hmm...Maybe I ought to think about an AMV to that Schoolhouse Rock song.)

I forgot to mention in the last entry that my very first video, 'Busy Little Mink' got some heavy love over the past weekend as well. I don't know what happened but star rating jumped over 1/10th of a star rating point.

Bad news maybe...I found out there may be another serious contender at Ohayocon. I found out about another entry that at the moment has pretty high ratings too. Another commercial, but it hasn't been beat into the ground.

I gotta get creating again after Ohayocon.
