JOURNAL: Tom the Fish (Tom the Fish)

  • wha-huh? 2003-05-19 09:53:59 I find it a bit disturbing that Trythil's Always wasn't shown at ACen. It's the video of the year so far imo, and I'm sure it's quite high on other org member's lists as well... I should start giving out awards. The F.I.S.H. awards!

Had to spend yesterday with my family and my in-laws. Easily one of the worst situations I can think of.

It baffles me that Freaks and Geeks and Undeclared didn't last more than one season, yet Malcolm in the Middle, Friends et al flourish.

I'm really enjoying Chobits and Neo Ranga and I can't wait for the next volumes. The opening theme from Chobits is driving me nuts. It's very reminiscent of a song I've heard before but can't place. I think it's Mercury Rev or Jim O'Rourke, but I haven't been able to find the song yet...
  • sometimes I think Rodan was the best band there ever was 2003-05-17 09:33:56 I really hope Otakon will take a playable DVD. I shuddr at the thought of submitting a MPEG-1 or VHS. I'd probably go with VHS if I have to, but do I hate getting the VCR set up.

Watched Happiness of the Katakuris with our friends last night. It went over well. The DVD has director commentary and a "making of" featurette. I'll have to hold on to it a bit before returning it to Netflix.

I have to get off my ass and give opinions to a few AMVs I've liked recently.

Oh yeah, I booked a room and regeistered for portconmaine yesterday. I have a few of my fave vids entered, so that should be fun.
  • Yay! 2003-05-15 10:15:02 I've finished my entry for Otakon. It's many, many animes set to the god-awful End of the World song by REM. I've been working on this one non-stop since Friday, forgetting to eat, sleep and watch baseball.

I even came up with a clever title: Mokushi des ne (Boku genki des yo)

I know there are a few other vids done to this song, but they're not online, so I can't compare my work to theirs. Hopefully it's different...

I probably won't put this one online as I don't feel like taking abuse on a video I spent quite a bit of work on.

Now after I install my new hard drive, I can start my Ghibli tribute.
  • Nihon o ikimasho! 2003-05-12 22:54:45 It looksl ike the wife and I are off to Japan for our wedding anniversary in Spet/Oct. Yay!! Hopefully we'll get a chance to go back to Paris or Belgium before then, but money may be tight.

As for the video I'm desperatly trying to get done for Otakon, I am now up to 1 minute 10 seconds and have used 40 different titles. It would have been 42 if I had any idea where VHD:BL or Trigun was. I must have lent them out. I may have to walk over to Tokyo Kid and rent them. It would have been even less had I not fixe my DVD+R to all region. The guides were of no help, btw. Luckily I'm pretty good at troubleshooting...
  • 20 seconds in 2003-05-09 11:53:29 22 seconds into my newest AMV and I've used 20 different shows already. What was I thinking?
