JOURNAL: NightMistress85 (Erika Thompson)

  • It's been a while 2009-03-16 14:37:36 Jeez. It's been a little bit since my last journal. Sowwy. Not too much new going on. Trying to get my video done. FINALLY figured out how I plan to do this one sequence. That was really holding me back. Now it should be slightly smoother sailing. Masking sucks, but it's a necessary evil. It's worse when you're meticulous about it like me >_> Almost never satisfied.

Played RE5. I want to cosplay Jill so badly but her body suit underneath that cloak is INSANE!! Way above my skill level for cosplaying, especially since I'm not hardcore with it. I just do it since all of my friends do it. However, I *do* want to do more than just have the cloak and mask. The game itself was slightly disappointing. It really shouldn't be in the category of "survival horror" anymore. I got Gears of War and Call of Duty vibes all the same. The only thing that interested me were the cut-scenes since it was the plot development I'd been waiting for. Wesker's a great villain (and looks damn hott for a 50+ something!!) Jill and Chris look fantastic and Sheva was great too. I do hope they start changing the direction of the genre though. RE4 was refreshing, but considering that they didn't innovate past it, it came off as a bit stale.

    Ah well.
  • Yeah so aside from the amv competition 2009-02-18 15:33:15 Katsucon didn't happen. It was replaced by LAEM A.S.S. Con 2009. I don't even know where to start. I should have known that the con would suck considering how AUSA, a considerable smaller con went. There were a lot more people and a lot less to do. WETAWDED!!!

The main upside is that I got to hang with my buds. Since we don't see each other but every so often, it was really cool to hang out, even if we complained about the phail. I did however see this cosplayer that looked like something out of 300. Me and my friend stopped in our tracks, backed up, and just stared at him from across the street. He had on a mask so we dunno how his face looked, but his body was bangin! And he was a brave soul to be topless in the cold like that. Oh well, a treat for the masses.

My cosplay went over well. It's really cool to know that people can recognize a more old school game and it was soooo easy to put on. No need to worry about cloaks, make up and wigs. Just get out and go! It's the simple things sometimes that people appreciate.

The amv contest was really good this year which is awesome. It was the first time that I got to see my videos with such a large audience, so it was an amazing feeling, as well as the crowd being supportive cheering them and singing along. I'm steady working on the new one though. While I enjoyed my amvs immensely, it feels really good to get away from something Vampire related for a change (since my Naruto one about 2 years ago). And the next one I may do afterwards is also non-vamp.

The upside about all this is that Katsu will be returning next year at the big and beautiful National Harbor. We're gonna have one of the best locations in the country!!
  • Good news 2009-02-09 22:47:48 Miss Murder and Zutaxuta Kokoro are goin' to Katsu!! More good news: my costume is FINISHED!!! MWUHAHAHAAA.

Now to the not so great news. Soooooo I go to get my eyebrows done today mainly because the lady that consistently does an excellent job works tonight. Well she was there, and she was available, however she makes some other lady, who I'm assuming is "training" do it. She obviously was NOT as skilled, as she split up sections that she waxed. An experienced person does the top, then the bottom in two waxes. The not so experienced will break the top and bottom into 4 waxes; which is what she did. Doing that ruins accuracy and a clean line. Then she TWEEZED FOREVER!! I didn't pay for them to rip out each hair individually from my head. That hurts EVERY TIME!!!. I payed them to WAX, as in get it AAAALL out of the way in one fell swoop. *I* could have tweezed. Then when she was done, I HATED IT. The arc is waaaaay too narrow, like older women tend to get. I'm used to a flatter arc!! I hate this job soooo much. And IT'S STILL SORE!!! I have the worst luck with getting a great eyebrow job before events where I'll be TAKING PICTURES. >_> Luckily I am very skilled with my pencil (after almost 10 years of experience) so I can flatten the arc and thicken the outter edges just a tad to make it more presentable. Still though, UGH!!! I think it's just time for me to do it myself. It takes longer, but I will be pleased all the time every time.

However, tomorrow is another day. I will get up, fix her atrocious job, go to work and people won't even notice. On my way home I'm going to drop by my beauty supply store and pick up some wax with strips and so will begin my new routine in about a month when I'm satisfied with how much has grown back. I'll save myself a couple hundred bucks each year too. Every bit counts in this cruddy economy.
  • WOW!!! 2009-02-05 20:18:45 We're witnessing evolution!!

I really hope they decide to leave him just the way he is. I could understand if the extra digits were deformed or something, but as the doc said, imagine what talent he could have and share with the world!
  • Yay for finals! 2009-01-28 09:45:56 My Zutazuta no Kokoro and Vampire Confections AMVs have made their first finals!! I really wanted to attend Ohayocon, but my bloody car repair bill put a wrench in that, and now I'm sick too >_>.

Today is SOOOO icy out. I can't even walk on my street! My elderly neighbor across the street had a fall and fell behind her bush so we couldn't even see her on the ground. We heard a large truck outside and thought it was a salt truck. Boy we were wrong. This guy comes out and walks to her house, slipping a falling a couple of times himself. Then we try to see what he's lifting and it ends up being her!! Really unsettling. Be careful out there my fellow north-easterners.
