JOURNAL: NightMistress85 (Erika Thompson)

  • 2008-10-05 12:24:49 Okay, workbook is complete! w00t. My next question though. Why are there all of these color variations on the journal entries?
  • K, *now* I know 2008-10-05 00:30:33 Working with AE I see that the layer level matters. The one higher in the list is most visible. So that answers one question :P I'm really plowing through this book though. Up through lesson 13 now (though it has a crapload of pages...) It'll be nice to be done with the book and toy around with stuff on my own (as well as watch my Gungrave DVDs) All of my freetime has gone to this AE workbook. I've also neglected my poor Trauma Center 2. I don't even want to MENTION my poor Wii...

  • So I learned a liiiiittle bit last night. 2008-10-02 09:52:20 Kewl, I sorta kinda can figure out how to "animate" now. One thing that was really helpful to know about was the "parenting" feature. That'll certainly save some keyframing time :-).

As I try to wrap my mind around After Affects, I decided to do a little "light" reading. I'm going through this book currently (just completed lesson 4). It's definitely helpful. However, it could certainly be better. If this is supposed to be for beginners, I think that certain explanations are necessary to build a solid foundation for you to evolve from as an editor. So far, I'm just doing what it tells me to do. I get the point that there are many intricacies to the software. That's a plus. But you don't get much explanation for why it's giving you particular instructions in a particular order. I want to know why I have to have one layer on top of certain other layers I'll be working with. It sounds as if me sticking layers wherever I please could screw up my composition. When I'm doing my compositions, I've gotta rely on myself, as I will not have instructions for specifically labeled files to my disposal. I mean, I can figure things out and all (and know that'll be a big part of the amv-making process), but the point of me buying the books is to help me do so more efficiently.

As I said, it's not too bad. It's definitely useful. I've learned how to go about doing a few effects I'd been meaning to do, but I'm just not sure how great it'll be fundamentally. Of course, there are always other books! (though those puppies would add up pretty fast in price...even this one I got on a 30% off sale)
  • Gungrave FTW!! 2008-09-28 15:07:28 I am a very happy camper as I was able to acquire this series without paying anything remotely close to $150!!! I love it sooo much.

In even greater news, I made my first amv contest finals!! I woke up half asleep to the news (having to go into work on Sunday sucks btw). But yeah, I'm excited and AUSA is in a couple weeks now!
