Just for Sir Cookie...

Bah. I came downstairs in the thunderstorm to turn off the computers, and being a freak of habit, decided to browse the journals rather than protect my motherboard. Go figure. It's pretty quiet ('cept for the thunder) with only one compy runnng. :P
My AMV history, you ask?
I think I saw my first AMV back in 2002 or 2003. I was online searching for episodes of Sailor Moon Stars, and came across Aluminum Studios site. Once I saw Dreams of Red and Blue Mercury, I had to have more. So I found some DBZ gems on Kazaa, Senshi on Springer and others. I thought it was a great idea to make videos like that, using what you had on hand. But I had no capture card, no DVD drive and no editing programs. I was happy to sit back and watch.
Then we got a TV card for the old comp that had capture capability as well as a linear editing program. I plugged in the VCR and the Android 17 DBZ movie and fiddled with it until I had something put together in mpg format. I had no idea at that point that you could review the video clips WITH the audio.... All the sync in my first video was a fluke. I did glean from Aluminum's site that subtitles were bad, and some other basics, so for that basic information from the get-go I am extremely grateful!
(If anyone wants to see my first video... Just let me know. I will laugh at you.)
Next was a request video (again, capture card) with Armitage III and Moby. I had figured out the sync and audio in this little program of mine, and it turned out pretty well. I didn't put it online because I thought it might be too violent.
In 2003, I found the org. In fact, I was Jubjub at first. I downloaded a couple of videos, and that was it.
In the meantime, you can see some of the videos I made with that simple program and downloaded footage on my profile. Wild Wild West, Macho Man, Ballroom Blitz, Independent Woman.... Even the Kodocha video were all made on that little two-track-only-crossfades program.
We then purchased a real capture card that came bundled with Adobe Premiere 6.5. We also picked up a DVD RW drive, and I figured the best way to learn Premiere was to make short videos with it. So I did. AMVs...
I made Kenshin - Die Another Day first. If I had known ANYTHING... and I mean ANYTHING about exporting at the time, the video would have looked tons better. I also didn't save the original export, so I am stuck with what I have unless I decide to remaster it. Which I haven't been prompted to do as of late. I was really pleased at the time with the results. I was enjoying the syncgasms watching the action sync with the beat so much.
The next video was my only Naruto vid. I think that's were I really started to enjoy the hobby. I used that one to practice internal sync and cropping subs.
So on and on I went until April 2005. We had moved to Texas and I came across the org again. I didn't have my old e-mail nor the password for my original screen name, so I created another one.... Jubjub2. :)
I jumped back into editing again with Bishounen Moments, and uploaded just about everything I had made to that point when I finished that vid.
Everything was in WMV at this point. I had no CLUE about compression, and the guides gave me headaches. So I kept using WinAVI to convert my DVAVI files to WMV format.
I started to get comments on my videos.
I even got an opinion out of the blue. Then another one....
I was shocked that there were people out there that watched this stuff.
I watched some videos and left my n00bish opinions. I saw some amazing stuff, like Tainted Donuts and some of Istiv's work. I wanted to do that. So I experimented and made Azumanga Daioh or Die. My first attempt at using masking, cutouts and some other effects that didn't come as a preset filter in Premiere (as well as some that did... :3).
Then came my turn-around video. Sesshoumaru and His Fangirls. Done just for fun and for my sister, I tried to combine all the elements I had seen in other videos into one. My only beta tester was my sister in another state. My only outlet other than her was my journal. In fact, my first Journal entries are about making that video.... *sighs at the memory*
After that, I just kept making stuff, and finally jumped into talking to people online here when I made Sohma Akito - King of Pain in reply to a suggestion in the forums. I actually got response to that one, and have to thank Scintilla again for commenting in the original announcement thread. :)
So, I hung out in the ops thread for a while, and started to interact with the Journal Junkies a bit. I spent time in #AMV and had a great time (I spent more time reading than chatting, though...), then read the guides for real.
Renegade was my first xvid compressed video. It was also the first attempt I made at using AVISYNTH, and I was hooked. After two days of hitting my head against my keyboard in frustration, I had it figured out and output (again, thanks to conversations on #AMV I learned that I needed to compress my audio... :0).
Then, I chatted with Rina for FOUR FRICKIN' HOURS about compression out of the blue. heh. HEH HEH HEH! I haven't been the same since.
On a whim, I entered Sesshy into Youmacon 2005. It won. I was way too excited, and started entering into conventions. Some videos went over well. Some didn't. But it's just fun to know there is a group of people out there watching something you made.
So, here it is a little over a year later. I think the biggest thrills I've had being a member of this community were being asked to participate in the Eminence Orchestra project (I am still soooo tickled about that) and She's Got a Way winning at A-Kon (I'm floored by that one).
It's just been a great experience being active in this little community. I have talked to many fun and talented people, enjoyed the random threads that became spam-fests, Skype at 2 a.m., trying to put a squirrel on Scoob's head, meeting people I have only chatted with online, having a rat named after me (<3) and various other memories. Good times.
I'd go into the MEPs and stuff, but I have been rambling long enough. Plus, the storm is over. Now to go see if my POS car will start.
.....
Thanks for making me try to remember all this random stuff, Mark.
