Okay. I'm not sleeping.
I'm cleaning video for my A-Kon vid.
And I want to weigh in on this...
Subtitles in a video is one of the reasons I avoid downloading wmv videos anymore (unless I absolutely have to). Unless I know the editor, the file format and file size usually are a nice indication of what's inside. Like shaking a present to guess the contents, you don't know what you might be missing unless you open it... But I have opened enough to know that the odds are stacked against me.
My two cents... Not childish, because I probably have more life experience than most here in the journals, and I know childish when I see it, but rather a preference. I also mark down on a video when there are subtitles. It shows a lack of pride (IMO) and real interest in someone's work to have something there that they know will be distracting. As a professional, the term we use for this is 'half-assed', and will get you fired - especially in my line of work.
If you don't know how to remove subtitles, fair enough. Go find out. We're all on a learning curve here. If you don't care enough to remove them and expect me to ignore them like I would ignore that 2" piece of spinach stuck between your teeth while I interview you, then I choose not to give out ratings for something you don't care enough about to make it look it's very best. That is my personal look on it.
