  • 2003-04-21 15:25:37 Put "always" back up an hour or so ago, 18 downloads so far. No hate-mail yet, which is odd.

    In an attempt to solidify my position as an effects ehore, I've started conceptualizing and designing some really funny video effects that take upward of three tracks and eight minutes to render. Oh yeah, they have absolutely no relevance to anything whatsoever.

    Wahoo. I suck.

    I'm tired of all this story crap. Three videos, half a year, and I can't seem to come up with anything really touching. Maybe I'm just not cut out for storytelling. Bah.

    Next video: crazy flashy epileptic action-death sequences. There's nothing more fun than being a prostitute.

    Generated MPEG-2 encodes of "Family Matters" and "always"...damn, they look /nice/, and sound /great/! Also memorized the rather lengthy mpeg2enc manual page as a nice side effect ;)

    Tinkering with the idea of a script to do all that encode work for me. Perl is such a neat, beautiful little language for such things, and it'd be great to just be able to run one command and have online distro and con copies generated simultaneously (well, maybe not simultaneously...probably serially.) My Athlon 850 clunker can handle it ;)

    Quu said that he'd have his FTP up by Monday, so all I have to do now is wait...and do homework...and study.

    Meh. I feel funny when I have nothing to do. Makes me feel like I'm slacking off, and I HATE that feeling. I'll probably wake up early tomorrow morning and study some more electrodynamics...or finish some CS projects...or something.

    Probably will work more on learning the Cinelerra plugin architecture, which is something that I was doing whilst working on "always" at the same time, but never had the time to really get into it. It'd certainly be a nice intellectual exercise and will keep my C++ skillz sharp :P

    However (and you knew this was coming), I hate the thing.

    With a passion.

    Why?

    Precisely because there /is/ no passion in the video. There's no emotion. There's no story.

    Correction. There IS passion, there IS emotion, there IS a story. I just buried it under layers of compositing and effect work. What a flop.

    If this is what the community goes for nowadays, well, that's that. I'm still rather amazed, however, that people would love a failed project so much.

    Meh. Whatever.
