  • 2003-05-10 09:57:55 Why do the Rayearth DVDs have to be such bastards?

These things have screwed over every software DVD player I've tried to play them in, and have already caused one ripper to crap itself out!

  • 2003-05-03 03:22:34 Finally getting around to doing that XviD encode of "always" that I've, well, always wanted to do. Loaded up AVISynth, VirtualDub, and a buttload of filters; managed to touch up quite a bit (at least I think so).

No, I haven't read much of the guides.

1st pass is being generated. We'll see how well (or how poorly) I encode given free reign and ignorance.
  • 2003-04-26 19:43:38 Picked up Laputa: Castle in the Sky today. I haven't gotten around to actually watching the thing yet (bah work) but even from the first few minutes, it sounds and looks like a beautiful movie.

All the Disney-bashing aside, the DVD transfer looks awesome. Colors are vibrant, there's not much in the way of noise or blocking, and best, there's no annoying red tint :D

    Must...find...time...to...put...disc...in...player...

  • neatness 2003-04-26 01:33:01 Picked up a Western Digital 120GB drive and a USB 2.0 enclosure for the thing today. I love this drive: it transferred 2.6 gigabytes of data in 2.5 minutes.

    whee!
  • damnit microsoft 2003-04-22 17:39:37 You know, the VB .NET installation procedure has a severe case of stupid.

It requires that your system be up-to-date before it performs the installation. Fine, I can live with that. It's a good idea anyway, considering the kinds of things VB .NET installs.

But why the fuck can't I just install the updates in the /traditional/ manner?! You know, Windows Update and all that crap that Microsoft likes to hype?

Why do I have to let VB .NET setup do it for me?! What's the difference?!

"Please download (but do not install) Service Pack 1 and the Critical Updates for Windows XP"

    ...

How do I download (but not install) the Critical Updates? It's nowhere in the Windows Update package, it's nowhere on the VS.NET web site, and I refuse to dig through Microsoft's byzantine site to find one little blurb of information that SHOULD have been in those first two places...
