Film Gimp
2002-12-17 09:46:41
Anybody ever play with Film Gimp (filmgimp.sourceforge.net)? Appearently it's being used by several large production houses (e.g. ILM, Sony Pictures ImageWorks, DreamWorks, Rhythm & Hues). It's been used to do frame-by-frame retouching on several feature motion pictures (Stuart Little, Stuart Little 2, Harry Potter, Scooby-Doo).
It's a Linux program, too :P
This looks like a pretty interesting little program. The primary difference is that Film Gimp devotes 16 bits of precision vs. GIMP's 8 bits of precision to the color components, but there's many other enhancements included to make working with film frames easier. Hell, with so many major production houses using it and working on it, it's got to have something going for it ;)
Going to give Film Gimp a spin; it'd be interesting to see how it complements my current compositing pipe of (GIMP + Photoshop) -> Cinelerra.

"Frame interval: 95-519, 424 frames"
"Rendering... ETA: 0:35;25"
maybe I've gone overboard...
