It’s like sex. Not a quick, fast, wham, bang, thank you mama, but like most intense orgasm you have ever had. When the need penetrates the flesh, and the heroin hits the blood stream, you shudder all over, and then your body becomes relaxed. Screw Leah Schwartz and her one hour orgasm. When you have heroin you have something far beyond that; at least that’s what James thinks as he lays on the cold wood floor next to Sara, his fingers wrapped around hers.
Synopsis: The story opens with James and Sara lying on their backs in a run-down one-room apartment in New York. Both of them are fucked up on heroin, with one small catch; Sara is overdosing, and James is to fucked up to do anything about it. He only lies there remembering their past together and how it came to this. When they first met in collage, Sara was already on the road to addiction. Even with this major flaw, James still fell for her, her sense of humor, her nonchalant attitude, and her spirit. He felt that if he could feel the things that she felt while on the drug, that he could become closer to her. That maybe he could get her to love him as he loved her and she loved heroin, and just maybe pull her back. Instead, he is pulled into her world, into her addiction. So, in a way he does become closer to her. Now he can do nothing to stop it as she dies next to him.
