the mirror reflecting the streetlights

SH096 is finished and up (though not on local due to some extra-bloody cuts), and it went fairly late last night, so I wasn't able to do anything on the next project (the SH005 remake). Hence, no progress indicator. I haven't even ripped the song yet, as I was ripping the CDs I borrowed from club this morning. I can do that tomorrow while Dragonball's duping, provided that there's enough of that to flow around the usual weekend load of shopping, banking, and this time, mailing out contest entries. I do also have to dig out the X DVD as well.
I could be doing a Morbid Angel/Hundred Stories piece right now, and probably be further along on it, but since the last disc isn't out yet (due for release this month), it's somewhat of a meeting-engagement problem: do I start hacking up the first three and hope the last one drops when I'm ready, or do I decide to not waste time and do something I know I'll be able to finish before I go to Germany? Like #96, remaking #5 is a low-tension project; I like #5 the way it is, so if the result sucks, I can just throw it out and move on, and there is still a nontrivial chance I'll get a good video out of it.
Tonight is club, but on my usual Harvard Square Garage buying spree I'm probably going to be putting more cash into Dropkicks records than anime. The impending departure for Germany is really making me think about what I'm going to miss about the United States if I don't carry it over, and high-energy bagpipe-driven hardcore is one of those things that you just normally take for granted living in the Boston area. Probably not so prevalent in Saxony.

Editing went fairly well last night, with two hours committed and 61 (of 104) seconds complete. Depending on how much work I have to do on the intro and credit sequences tonight, the video might be finished for tomorrow morning, or I might be tying it up in post Saturday. I'm behind on some club stuff which may push things off a little, but as always things will yield to superior practice. I'm thinking of doing an explicit image-macro strobe cut, but since nearly all of my FuKu image-macros are originally from eroge, that's borderline cheating, and I'd feel better if I didn't do it.
Despite being almost two-thirds done, I'm still uncertain about the number and variety of my "victim" sources, but there's just little that can be done about that. This kind of tripe unfortunately gets licensed quickly, and I don't collect it naturally (if I did, I wouldn't be making this video): I'm certainly not going to sacrifice my cash or my dignity to pick up Divergence Eve, Ikki Tousen, or Gravion for video purposes. Of course, given that my initial reaction to Divergence Eve was suicide-contemplation, and that was just watching it rather than slicing through for footage, this is probably a good thing.
I'm also going through the catalog for another pass at the metal recs, and while the percentage of junk has gone up somewhat, there are some good vids in here that were missed in the first pass, either because their artists weren't under consideration or because they just weren't in the database yet. I'm done through C and probably should be updating the recspage again soon.

I clipped through the last of the source for #96 and hammered out plans for the next video. However, reviewing stuff for the metal recs list prevented me from doing any actual editing. Tonight, though, with no clipping on the dock, I should be able to get a minute or so done before starting in on more reviews.
The reason there's no catalog number on the next project is that I'm not certain that it'll deserve one. I'm planning a remake of SH005 from DVD source with a frame-accurate editor that includes effects capability; while I certainly plan for it to be nearly shot-for-shot (confidence in the original and all), it could end up being a very different video. If it ends up being more or less identical, it'll stay SH005. If it turns into something substantially different, it'll be SH097.
I wrote up another scene in PILU yesterday; it'll be a real pain if the last volume of Tsukihime doesn't at least marginally support the direction of this parody. It'd also suck if I didn't shop the finished script to someone before I left for Europe.
Still need to get that gear...the first video for Europe won't need it, but anything after....

I finished #95 on Saturday and started battling on #96, which should be ready for editing tonight or tomorrow. The pressure on German stuff is going to be intense, but most of that is in HR's baliwick now, not mine, so #96 should wrap by the weekend. I haven't decided what I'm doing for #97; there's time for 1, maybe 2, more projects before I ship out.
Maybe I'll just work on the script for PILU, but I still haven't watched the last volume of the show in question -- video work and Dragonball copying kind of stole the whole weekend. Maybe after #96 completes -- at only 1:44 plus however much work I have to do on intro and credit sequences, it might conceivably go down in a couple days.
I did, however, tentatively decide on the first video for Germany.....hunting Michener's Ice Age mice as it were. Given the work burden and processor speeds, it ought to hog time until the summer, and once the weather starts getting cold again, I'll probably have the leisure time and spare cash to build myself a new editing rig.
Once this assignment concludes, though, I'm going to have to get myself a more capable laptop. If I'm going to be on the road regularly, building a new editing box every six months is pretty depressing and expensive, to say nothing of the ill effects on process. That's a bridge to be crossed, though...much depends on how the German install goes, and if I decide to continue after laying off for so long if things get thick.
For now, though, I've got a video done and another one cooking. Things could be worse.

It's official. We won. Optima is going to AMD, and I'm going to Germany in three weeks. Nose to the grindstone after that, but I've got vacation to take next week and videos to work on. WEWT!
