cross emotional skies

SH099 has now been released, though given the hour reactions are not likely for a while. I'm interested in how people react to this (most will probably be negative), and whether or not people get the impression that this video is a prank. I don't think it is, but given the deconstructivist elements in it, that's a perfectly valid conclusion, as long as you can watch the video from a Brechtian perspective and read it as such.
I started rough-storyboarding for SH100 last night, but tonight I'm probably going to get all the points in the song (over 120) timed, so that I can winnow down the selection. Making a video in 5 GB of headroom is tough, but fortunately my process is not as space intensive as it would be if I was using, say, Premiere. And there's always the option of backing some stuff off to the external drive.
I swear I'm going to update "Day By Day in Deutschland" soon.........I just keep having so much normal life that it's difficult to take the time to document it.

SH099 is done, but I'm busy today and will not have it up; maybe tomorrow if I can get some time sufficiently early. I'm currently thinking of how I'm going to attack SH100, because the source scope is truly monumental, and most of the cuts involved have already been judged AMV-worthy. I'm going to have to bloody storyboard this. Damnit.
The apartment is working out; a little quiet, but if their kids make noise, they can put up with my music. The area's pretty well-featured, so in the odd instance that I get some time to hang out I should have a wide range of options.
Just hope some of those translate into "machine's fine, do whatever" and "yeah, you can have the two weeks around Wacken off".........

The clipping is done, but not "done done", as I still have to do huffy conversion. For now, it's still compressed as we may be doing backups of the drives onto my editing rig today, which will mean moving lots of stuff to the root drive to free space. I'll probably end up doing that tonight and storyboarding the video, then editing tomorrow night. There's a bit of a deadline on #100, which in turn enforces a deadline on this one, which is going to be highly dependent on how the editing environment behaves. So many unknowns, so little time.
Also have to go buy some stuff to eat as well -- that's the one thing I miss about the United States, extended shopping hours. Grocery stores close at 20:00 here, and aren't open at all on Sundays. It's better for the employees, of course, and in some ways it's just a different pace, but the problem is that until the acceptance test is done, we're working at a level even more intense than American society usually accomodates, and Germany just doesn't accept that. Not a 35-hour week, but 60 or 70 hours, and that leads to poor diet induced by shopping exclusively at gas stations. No way around it but through.

Clipping is going well so far, though I wasn't able to find episodes 13-16 during the packing process before coming over. Hopefully, there wasn't a high concentration of good source. The stuff I'm cutting through now is usually less damaged, but I'll be able to work around that. This is probably going to be deliberately inaccessible in the tradition of #92 and #70.
I moved into my apartment yesterday, and it's pretty cool, despite the large pile of stuff I'm going to have to buy to get it up to proper levels. I should also be washing my clothes soonish, as I've been in-country for two full weeks.....just need to find a Waschsalon and get ahold of some more 1-euro coins. Gotta tank up as well -- bloody long commute, good thing there's two gas stations en route.
Work today is going to be a half-day, so I should be able to do some more video chopping tonight. It's entirely possible that I could be editing by tomorrow, and finished moderately thereafter. Of course, work, work, and more work are probably going to interfere with that, and there is the whole problem of pushing the current Xvid clips into editable huffyuv versions. It'll take care of itself eventually.

(turned on Winamp to put up some tunes as I was writing this, and it jumped straight into "Family Happiness". Sweet.)
Seeing as I was looking forward to sleeping on a concrete floor and an upturned chair, I clipped four eps on this last night. Deliberate damage is barely necessary; the state of A/V fidelity was just that bad four years ago. There's a lot of mosquito noise and artificial grain that I don't really have to enhance, and even some non-removed interlacing that is not macroblocked out. The state of digisub technology in the original is just exactly right: not so bad that there are blocks in high-motion scenes, but not so good that the source is preserved with any real degree of fidelity.
Right now, I've got about 110 MB of source, which as I'm using Xvid for clips (save space in case I have to put it on the dump drive to move computers before doing final editing) and deliberately inducing data loss, equates to somewhere around 330 of the 350 seconds I'm going to need to do the vid. I really should get the lyrics concepted/timed so that I can have more structure to go on, but more time will fill up the source bin and yield appropriate coverage for all situations.
As it stands, I could do this fairly straight, or incredibly obscurantist, and for a multitude of reasons I'm leaning towards the latter. Partly because I worship Satan, partly because I do get pleasure out of other people not being able to instantly understand my work (and hey, it makes a nice ego defense when stuff gets bombed with low scores, even when it deserves them), but mostly because that's what the song demands. It's itself pretty bizarre and obscurantist and videographing it straight, or with traditional timing and synch, would be a letdown. Just have to see how it goes, probably in another week or three -- once I have my apartment (whenever that happens) I'm going to ahve to be spending a lot more time at work.
