This morning I ground through DGIndex on the source vobs, and got the basics of the enhancement down. To finish it, I'm going to need to buy some more equipment, which probably won't be until the weekend. This is something I'm probably going to have to do while I've got two computers.....which looks to be taking longer than anticipated to go away.

I should also be working on the recs pass, given new drive and incentive by the appearance of more Guardian4 videos way at the end of the chain. Soon enough I'll get hosting paid for, and soon after that the recs list will be back up.

I probably won't be going to WFF -- no time left and too much other shit that I have to take care of. Monday, though, I start buying tickets for the rest of my festival plans in earnest....and start looking for camping gear for Wacken. One month.....

This is the exact same progress that had been made back on the 6th, three weeks ago. Reason for lack of advancement: AMV Hell, and the fact that I've had to set this up on Onslaught now....which is safely sitting in my car under some spare bags of macaroni. The difference is that with the new set up I can actually fit all 3 DVDs of rips on the HD at once, with room for source; headroom is a good, good thing.

What is not good is the screensize. For whatever retarded reason, the graphics card can't push more than 1280x800, which sucks sucks SUCKS. I can't even remember the last time I ran a screen resolution that small vertically. The widescreen is nice, but I write code for a living and arrange multitrack media for a hobby; vertical resolution not a luxury but a necessity. If it wasn't a work laptop, I'd be seriously considering breaking the warranty and throwing some new parts at it.

Re-hosting of stuff that was on direct may happen sometime in the near future. I have other projects to do and the hosting company is being a bitch, so it may take a while to straighten this out. It was so much easier when I could just take $20,000 a year in personal debt and have unlimited bandwidth on an Internet2 node, but we can't stay in college forever.

  • the storm that brings the dawn 2005-06-27 05:33:16
I finished up the last two AMV Hell tracks on my queue over the weekend, and will probably be upping them today. Incidentally, this marks the "in service" debut of Onslaught, which will start grinding on SH102 either tonight or tomorrow. No idea whether the Magix filesize-limitation problems will persist with a 64-bit proc; ten-second videos are not the best torture test of this.

    Offtopic:
I'm going to Wacken. Hell or high water. I may be going to WFF, because that's this weekend and I can't be 100% sure of that. Besides that, it's looking like another fest in each of July and August (probably day ticket only), then Meg comes for the end of August, and then I save up my energy for In Extremo and Running Wild on the respective 1st and 2nd October. It was tough deciding for Running Wild, but they are never, EVER going to tour the US again, and there's a remote chance that Heaven Shall Burn (playing at another club in 2.10) will.

And then I remembered to be thankful that I was in a country where metalheads actually have to make choices about what bands to see, rather than just going to "the show". Nightwish is booked in Dresden against the final day of Wacken, even -- you'd never see that in America.

Despite the deadlines being less than three practical weeks off (accounting for festivals, overtime, etc), SH102 and maybe 103 WILL be ready for AWA and Connichi. I'm probably not going to be able to *go* to Connichi (schade), but so is life. There are anime conventions all over the place in America, but the only way I get anything like the German metalfest circuit is to drive to Milwaukee next summer -- not tremendously appealing. I like the Midwest, but driving there is a real bear.

  • their latest tragic suicide 2005-06-22 07:35:54
I've finished (sort of) source gettage for what will probably be my last two AMV Hell tracks, and I may have the time to make them tonight/tomorrow. Then I can start loading and gearing out Onslaught, and maybe do one more track on there to tune up for SH102 -- and see how much faster 64-bit capacity makes scanning through VOBs in VDub.

Work is rough, and automation is not playing nicely with controls. Fifteen hours yesterday....hope I can take Friday off and both pay my rent before the landlady gets nervous, and do my wash before the apartment gets positively unlivable.

    offtopic (kind of):
I responded to something on my hotmail account this morning that had all the signs of spam, and may yet run down the prepaid charges on my handy. However, when the person inviting has an AMV.org account with a metal video on it as well as some aspects of "spam profile", you either have to trust that good people can look sketchy on the internet, or decide that even if it is a scam, the amount of work put in on it must be rewarded.

Hopefully it's all aboveboard; it would be nice to trust people over the internet, but experience sadly argues against.

The new Nevermore is awesome, but they're on Gigantour this summer, so they may not be going to the Euro fests that I still haven't gotten tickets or arranged time off for. All in good time.....

  • a grave in the earth 2005-06-21 18:57:57

This sucks. I'm stuck torrenting a bunch of stuff that should have finished today (must be nitwits unplugging my cable off and on again), so not only do I have to leave my current laptop in the office, I also can't start loading up the new one....because the geniuses in IT forgot to give me a Euro power cord for it, and I've only got the one adapter. If the scientists made the product-direction decisions for the company and software did IT as a sideline for those people who actually use their computers as more than an electronic typewrite/rolodex, things would be a lot better around here.

So, no new videos for the time being; maybe I'll get some sleep tonight and work less than 14 hours tomorrow. I can't wait to dust off my remaining AMV Hell ideas and get into serious process on #102 -- or for that matter to get off second shift and onto a normal schedule. Work work work work work work work.
