JOURNAL: Kai Stromler (Kai Stromler)

I actually got the account set up at the host, so as soon as the DNS propagates and I can access the domain the SH site will be on the way back up. Tonight, it's setup for SH102, and maybe initial editing, even though my performance enhancers are in my fridge back at the apartment. Eiskalt servieren!

Of course, I'd most like to be back on steroids as well while editing this, not because it's an action vid, but because of the real effects that steroids have on focus and mindset. Of course, the interaction between steroids and Jaegermeister is undefined, and with sufficient Jaeger and blastbeats I can probably get most of the "wiring" effect that I used briefly back on SH079 for extended operation.

This is the space where normally there would be an antidrug blurb, but I got my steroids legitimately through a medical professional, and as long as AMV contests don't have a testing policy I don't see a problem with people using whatever substances they want in their process. What is an enhancement and what just fucks you up is going to vary individually.

It should also be noted that SH092, SH093, SH099, and SH101 were all edited and produced more or less drug-free, and I don't strictly *need* chemical enhancement to do skullborings. However, I do feel I need it to properly approach this video.....which may have very negative implications for the prospect of anyone else ever understanding or comprehending it.

I've finished up my strobes and finished cleaning the potential title cards; all that remains is the actual binge of editing. I'm feeling more and more like doing that earlier, especially as there will be approximately no time before the Connichi deadline when the video wraps and the Bundespest opens up their offices. It's looking like one vast toxic blitz over all of Saturday, with Sunday for detox, as I seem congenitally able to get out of the fucking office before one in the morning.

The SH site may be going back online after a month of downtime and quite a few link error reports; the site used to clean these up automatically after 1 week of invalid reports, but I guess they don't do that any more. So geht's. I've also been working on the recs, in the down time forced by people never being ready for conference calls and the like when they're supposed to be. One day, one hour, one task at a time.

I got the chemical enhancement for #102, which is probably also going to serve as a train pastime, because there's a lot of it and Metaltix has allegedly shipped my tickets for Wacken. Once I actually get them, I can get rolling on actually buying camping gear and tickets for Summer Breeze and Earthshaker. On the last, I don't have a huge attachment to Manowar, but it's difficult to pass up the chance to see them with a 100-piece orchestra and Christopher Lee guesting. If you're in Europe or South America around a Manowar show and don't go, you're missing the experience in any case, and all the extra junk that they're dragging out for their fan convention just makes it more of a spectacle.

Probably a little video work tonight, and some more rest; I've been paying back sleep debt from Sunday night's clipping and it's not been fun waking up.

  • we came so far 2005-07-11 09:00:03
OK, so I have now officially "arrived" on the .org. Someone cut up SH063 and put most of it into this video:

    http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members/members_videoinfo.php?v=60413

I've suspected source theftage before, but never could prove it -- and in this case, the dude actually used the cut that I left sub tops in. If not for this, it could be "well, pretty much anyone can cut up Super Gals and trim the subs out".

I'm not mad, though, just amused. Partly because they were indeed so dumb as to repeat one of my mistakes, partly because SH063 is two and a half years old, and partly because they felt the need to disguise and munge it to put it in front of audiences. SH063 is running fairly good ratings despite extremely obscure music source, so there's definitely an audience out there for shoujo + hard rock.

I'm now in a good mood, and prime to have same ruined by machine dumbness at work.

    SH102:
    - Source rip: complete
    - Music: complete
    - Precleaning: complete
    - Storyboard/planning: partial
    - Clipping: complete
    - Edit: none
    - Postproc: none
    - Export: none

I did all the clipping last night, while simultaneously watching two Americans finish 1-2 in the US Superbike GP, which will probably never happen again, ever, and about 15 drivers wreck themselves on a Champcar course in Canada. Essentially, all the preproduction is done, though I may redo some of the ADR tonight -- I'm not really happy with the lines as they stand, and I ought to at least try to improve them.

Edit is tentatively planned for the weekend, mostly due to the fact that chemical and environmental enhancements are going to be used in the process that would make it very difficult to either do the video in short stands around working hours, or to edit it in normal fashion and still recover for work the next day. This is not the kind of video that can be edited during daylight hours, on a full stomach, or while feeling well and rested. Hopefully, I can blast it out Friday into Saturday, do the mixdown and cleanup, then send it off to Connichi and AWA on Monday morning, barely making their deadlines.

I have the feeling that this video is going to be difficult to impossible to edit though, and stuffed full of even more extreme stuff than the last one. I really want to do the song justice, and the original video for it is one of the best and most artistic made in its genre; I've got to at least echo and correspond, which is made easier by having some very similar shots available. And, of course, harder due to the stiff tempo change on the solo section and my usual pre-edit anxieties about not having enough of the right source. I do have to kick up a strobe or two again, but this is hardly intense work. Plenty of time in the intervening nights to finish plotting, do ADR, and take care of minor details like this.
