pandora's hope

6 hours remaining. Then I send a did-you-get-it email to AWA and go home. Maybe I'll do shopping on the way, but mostly I'll try to avoid driving off the road after pulling an inadvertent 24 stand.
Not wanting to kill my processor and stall the FTP again, I am not working on SH103 right now. Later, like after I've slept, or tomorrow. I'm on vacation now, even if Meg doesn't get in till Tuesday. The likelihood I have to babysit/doctor a sick implanter is significantly down -- editing and Not Doing Jack Time.
Unfortunately, for the next 5:55, it's Not Doing Jack Time.

ends with a whimper, not with a bang

SH103 is still stalled (1 softwareguy/2 sites = 15-hour days), but the wheels are slowly turning to get SH102 into Expo at AWA. Connichi falls by the wayside because I don't have enough time to reliably get it there by post. Oh well. Next year, I'll have a video for them that's not only done by deadline and applicable to their categories, but in their audience's primary language.
Work on the video will probably crank up over the weekend, and I'm probably going to release it here rather than sending it out. Meg doesn't get in until midday Tuesday, and there's no way that cleaning out my car and apartment can take more than like 8 hours or so. It's a mess, sure, but it's 50 qm, and I took care of most of the real "sty" aspects last weekend. Probably only another 8 hours left on the video as well, so it should wrap conveniently....provided I don't end up playing Heretic or Quake for hours on end. Every year around this time, I get the urge to play old FPS games....and then after a few days/weeks/months I realize that I don't do it much because I suck at them, and then I give up and get back to working on real stuff.
Quake 2 looks pretty sweet on 1280x960..........

I should be able to finish clipping probably tomorrow; I've got another install to do today, and about 2 1/4 real vobs to get through. After that, editing.
Speaking thereof, I also got the limited edition of Iced Earth's Gettysburg DVD in my haul of random rare stuff from Wacken, and while Mark Briody may be technically skilled at rendering and a decent guitar player, he has no idea about compositional editing. And he likes fire too much. Those who have seen this DVD will immediately understand.
Part of me is saying I ought to re-edit the trilogy using Gettysburg (you know, the film, whose storyline Jon follows almost exactly in the music), but part of me is saying that this will mean editing to 25 minutes of music, which is a royal PITA, and will prove absolutely nothing, because I'm not under the constraints of "don't use anyone else's copyrighted footage" that Briody was. Also, there's absolutely no original input in editing like this; what is involved, given the movie and the songs, is cutting out the right four hours from the movie's runtime so that the remaining pieces synch. It's impressive only in the scale involved.
I did actually do some work prepping for my Monster project over the weekend; all five songs to be used in the primary run are now ripped and aranged; only one needs some further editing, but I can do that later. It's going to be bloody hard, and getting the anime is going to be stupid expensive. At least there's beastly hard things I can do in the meantime while my credit card regenerates.

Working on #103 again, after the extended layoff. Wacken was fucking awesome (thread in General Music with link to details), but left me fucking dead all week. This weekend I hope to get some more reps in on this video, though I also have to clean and probably get out to the Monarchs game. If I'm housebound Saturday (DHL couldn't deliver my copy of Pro Football Prospectus last weekend, so I had to fill out a redelivery card), I might as well be doing something productive. If I can do one ep before work and one after, that'll leave seven in two days for the weekend -- I don't want to start having TOO much life all of a sudden.
The other pressure here is Meg coming in about 10 days. Regardless of what we end up doing or where we end up going, doing anything videowise will probably be flat impossible. So the objective is to finish clipping this weekend, then finish editing by next Friday. Not too ambitious, and the release schedule has calmed down some. After this one, it's going to get weird again -- but SH104 should get done faster at least.

There has been a spate in recent weeks of people using the journal function in a way that makes me want to yell "take it to LJ, emo whiners", but obviously, I couldn't do that without having some actual progress to note. Yeah, I've posted "life" stuff here in the past, but my tendency to do that when it was obviously offtopic is what led me to swallow my pride and actually get an online journal that doesn't explicitly have to do with anything. This is and will remain roughly analogous to a .plan file, and people can and will find me on Myspace if they want to read about random shit.
So I'm working on #103 again, even if it's from ulterior motives. Well enough, I should have been doing more on this one anyway. It's not like I'm going to be able to do anything on it this weekedn anyway -- since in 24 hours I'm going to be on a train headed for Hamburg and the biggest festival of the year. Lots of stuff matters less than Wacken, very little more.
