So I've finally started moving on this project: 2 of 9 DVDs are loaded off the removable drive, and as these are cut through, more DVDs will come on line. My working space is about 13 GB, which can be increased to 17 once I burn off my AMV archive to DVD, which will allow me to continue to respond to Yousendit requests on an instantaneous basis without clogging up my working environment. After that, I have to start uninstalling games I don't play anymore.
These two videos are combined in the same progress entry for now, much as #75-#78 and #82/#83 were, because re-cutting source over 9 DVDs is a painful experience and a fool's errand. Once I actually get into production and there are different values for some of the entries in the above, the videos will of course get split out.
I'm still feeling a little under the weather, so while work will proceed on these projects over the weekend, it's probably not going to be too intense. I've got to rest up, handle a bunch of stuff for work, and make sure that I'm in top shape for the Running Wild and In Extremo shows next weekend. As always, metal takes priority 1.
#104 comes out tomorrow......can't wait for reactions, whether good or ill. Probably mostly ill....if someone actually likes #104 as something other than a hate object, that's cause for serious alarm, either on my end or theirs.

no cabin fire can burn my dream

I have a bad memory, so #104 will not be released until Friday, or maybe Monday next, and I didn't have to work so hard on blasting through it. Or I could write it up and release it, like, immediately, and just let historical congruences go screw. Though without them there is really no justification for making this video.
I was watching the election Sunday and did not get started on #105 and #106... but the coming week will provide more than enough time to get rolling on those fronts. I probably should also finish up writing the script for PILU -- I'm going to be getting back to the States in January, which should leave enough time to get the ADR recorded in time for Anime Boston (or failing that, Otakon), and enough editors drafted to do the visuals up. I'm currently torn whether to do this Japanese- or American-style (animation first or ADR first), leaning towards a mix of the two. Most of the animation editing is going to be lipsynch, which can be done to the vocals in post, with a placeholder image in the video 'click-track' that the vocals are recorded over. Of course, it's not just vocals -- I'm going to have to scrounge and munge stuff for effects, or actually do my own Foley work, which will be several advanced levels of Not Fun. Or I could just send it straight up to Sokodei and let it rot on their shelves, but that would be the easy way out.
So it's back to clipping again....35 GB of vobs = Epic Project, for sure. Expect these videos sometime in November, unless work gets me way bogged down or I end up ordering VHD (the original, not that shiny Bloodlust crap) to brew up some more Emperor-esque evil with The Vision Bleak. And when the sun goes down in Carpathia.......

SH104 is done, pretty much on schedule, and will be released on Tuesday pending any further re-edits (not likely). I'll probably be taking the weekend off, cleaning up the system, and then getting back into the slow and regular grind through episodes on Monday. There are 10 DVDs under survey for SH105 and SH106, which will be slow videos to a total of nearly 12 minutes of music.
This will be the fifth time (#21 and #22, #28 and #29, #76 and #77, #101 and #102 to a lesser extent) that I've planned for two videos in direct sequence which run the risk of being functionally identical. Hopefully, I can open things up so that the difference is more of the scale on #28 and #29, as opposed to that in #76 and #77, which is practically nonexistent at the start of the video. Following the lyrics will make things easier, as the subject matter is totally different, but the #76-#77 scenario is more likely -- this will be only the second time that I've done two videos in direct sequence using the same band, the same anime, and the same general music style.
On the one hand, I'm intimidated by my track record, the size of the source pool, and the expanse of music that needs to be covered. On the other, I really want to make these videos. The vids will get done, but it will be a long, slow, process, and probably frequently interrupted by other stuff. It'll be great if these turn out well; I'm just hoping they turn out, period.

Video is clicking pretty well, and I think I've gotten through the hard part; 30 seconds left for tonight (which makes me technically behind schedule) plus some ADR and image editing for the credits. I may have to cut some more source for the end credits, but I do have a backup plan and will definitely be able to do one of the two jokes I've got planned so far.
I've loaded up the songs for the next two videos, which will probably go into process this weekend on a staggered basis, as I can't fit all the DVDs I need to work with on my drive all at once. The challenge on these is going to be mainly in making them come out different; the feel is practically identical, but the subject matter can -- and should -- be totally separate. Definite autumn songs.
I also took the opportunity to load onto my rig EVERY SH video that is not hosted on local. If you want something that's giving you download errors, drop me a line and I'll hook you up through Yousendit. I am going to get my site back online sooner or later, but for now, this stopgap method works pretty well, and will probably continue in service after I do get the site up as a bandwidth-saving and TOS-conforming procedure. (I'm not going to host #30, #48, or #90 and get my ass kicked of the host).

I'd just like to say that the new quick comments system is awesome. I've gotten two already, a positive micro-op and a "sucked", and the combination of these -- especially the presence of the second -- really affirms my faith in the system. If people can be free to say that videos suck without fear of immature retaliation, this will hopefully produce positive pressure on editors and more realistic self-appraisal. And then opinion scores will recenter on 5 and we will all hold hands and sing Kumbayah. But seriously, this is pretty cool.
I have to figure out how to make Magix turn off interlacing on accelerated clips. I have to. Either that, or dissect the project file defines, get the exact speed enhancements, and manually accelerate everything in Virtual Dub. This project is using a ton of acceleration, and as a result there's interlacing all over the fucking place. This is seriously not fun, and reduction to distro resolution does not help. This is one of the very few things that is immensely frustrating about Magix, and while it's understandable (the authors did not design the program for export to digital displays) it's also annoying -- maybe more recent versions handle this better, but for the fast majority of applications this kit is just fine. Why they didn't decide to drop frames on acceleration instead of blurring them together -- or at least make this selectable -- is beyond me.
We'll see how the post-prod tols I've been able to get deal with this....I am not particularly optimistic, but if necessary I can always mix down to the settings of my Vorbild, and then any interlacing problems go away....along with nearly all the picture detail. At least I was able to cut 32 seconds out of the song so the nightmare ends faster.
