As of this writing, SH003, SH006, SH007, SH009, and SH012 are back online, and SH022 is in the process of uploading. Tomorrow will probably see #45, #71, #73, #83, #96, and #101 back up, and after that, I put in the reqs to get #11 and #23 straightened out, finally. The SH rehosting operation continues, despite the degree of dicking around on the part of various hosting concerns.

After all the dust from this settles, I'm going to go back and rewrite the video descriptions, starting again from SH001. There's a lot of out-of-date or just plain not correct information involved in many of these that needs to be fixed.

Fortunately for SH105/106, I don't have my Outcome tracks with me. If I did, I'd be putting these videos off again while I tried to punch something up with Planetes. Of course, the PAL DVD I have is not in great quality, and even though there's 5 eps, I'd probably run short on material. It sucks that we're not as far along here as in North America; this show is Patlabor in space, and I want more. Now.

I cut through two eps last night. That's it. The week was occupied with making torturous changes to machine configs that led to even more severe and insidious problems. And, of course, adjusting to third shift. I may be able to do an ep a night from here out, but that'll ofcourse make it unlikely that the videos wrap before the end of the month.

Of course, I did take some time off -- Saturday was Shumatsu in the "morning", and now that I have a rough idea of the controls I may be playing Ran for a bit (provided the server stays up). Finally logging in to the PVP server of an open-beta MMO and realizing you don't really know what the controls are is a bit of a unique experience; in my case it took me back to seventh grade, when I had to walk through the projects to get home and I hadn't got anywhere near my full growth yet. Like Lovecraft's gods of the earth, you are surrounded by beings that could easily own you, but do not because either they're not aware of your existence or just don't care. Or maybe it was just all one big flock of newbies scared to aggro anyone because they don't know how to read levels yet.

As regards the videos, maybe I should do a trial run at editing them. I've got about 9GB of cut source, which for 11 minutes of video is nearly 100% overage, and I only really need about 70%. At the very least, I'd see what cuts I still needed. Maybe after I finish up the DVDs that I currently have loaded. This whole "patience" thing is not something I'm great at, but fortunately will prevent me from doing any Naruto videos.

Well, any *more* Naruto videos. There was one over the weekend that can't really be called such, and I finally got around to compiling INSO08 into a singe volume. These'll probably be announced tomorrow, I can't really put either of 'em on the .org and need to find alternative hosting.

    Fear, forthwith......

No progress recently, but there probably will be this week; I've been moved from the extremely difficult second shift to the less hellish but still annoying on-call third shift. I don't have to go in to the office, but between midnight and 6AM I have to be ready to hit the road and get in to AMD at a moment's notice. If the machine doesn't break, I should get the chance to cut through more vobs. If it does break, I take a 3-hour intermission and go fix it. No rest for the wicked.

I've been idly tossing around some ideas for further projects after this one, one of which will require shooting some original footage. I have a plan on how to do this without a video camera, but I need to take some time and see if it'll work -- on the to-do list for tomorrow or something after I go off-call. This will either be something really cool or a whole lot of wasted effort; a good learning experience either way, even if all that's learned is to never ever do this again. (Or never do this again without proper equipment and/or training.)

That one is "Weicher Herbst", which is a German joke that basically only Dresdners will get. The other one is going to be a pure deconstructionist video and just short of unwatchable; title to be worked out after the video is finished and after I read some articles by people with degrees in gender studies so I can determine exactly the right pitch of meaninglessness and pretentiousness. In any case, time is a-wasting, and I have vobs to cut.

I got myself a mouse that isn't broken, and things are punching along nicely again; I should be able to do an ep a night now, even on night shift, more if there are low concentrations of applicable shots. I still have to index those 4 eps I put on last night, but that's a matter of minutes; I'll hopefully be cut through everything currently on-disk by the end of the weekend.

It's probably out of the question, but if it's technically possible I'd like to get #105 in to Animania's contest. Of course, since I'm cutting for two videos at once, with fairly divergent themes, that's probably not going to happen. I'm looking at exactly two weeks to cut 24 vobs and edit to a 5-minute song; fairly unrealistic even if I do go hikkikomori on the weekends and don't get called in at odd hours. I did #3 in a span of 24 continuous hours, but that was a long time ago on much less source, and with a video that had a much different feel to it. It'd be a good challenge, but I'm not sure that it's worth killing myself for. Work is hard enough already.

Hit a bit of a snag yesterday; I was leeching too hard and my mouse broke. Stupid lightweight mouse. With the last major test in a while out of the way (and nearly all passed) at work, I will probably be able to get back hacking on the videos over the weekend, and maybe also get through B. I still have to put up the recs for A, but I'll probably hack that together tomorrow. Some good videos and a lot of almost; I don't know that I've kept this many vids in ever.

A lot of the incentive to do this has gone away with the starting of the official metal recommendations thread, but the recs list has swelled over the past two and a touch passes to this giant resource on metal AMVs that I didn't edit. I believe in the recs list, and I believe in its continued utility, even as soul-killing as it is to actually go through stuff that is going to grade out, on average, at 2.68 stars, and find the tiny diamonds in a gaping abyss of goat bunghole. Because when you do come across one that rocks, especially one that you didn't expect to, there's no better feeling in the world.
