Some work went down over the weekend, and I hope to do some more this week if not actually tonight. Once I get rolling, it's easy; it's the getting rolling that's the hard part.

    An open letter:
    Dear sucky AMV makers,
Thank you very much for using WMV as a distro format, and please continue doing this in the future, so that I can continue to not watch your bad videos when doing my passes for the metal recs list. Of the first 160 (of about 600) Metallica videos, I've only had to watch 34 as a result of your consideration. I look forward to suffering less when doing exhaustives with your continued assistance.
    Sincerely,
    -- Kai K. Stromler

It should be noted, however, that in the course of today my average star rating given has dropped by two hundredths of a point and will likely continue falling through the duration of the Metalligrind. There are a few good videos in there, but a lot that are just not. But I do the recs list as a public service, and not necessarily for my health, or even my own enjoyment. 440 videos to go.....

The recs list is updated through K; next week I'm hoping to get through M (and the morass that is Metallica), with N and Nightwish n00bs the week following. Over the weekend I need to do some Christmas shopping and make a run for the Polish border -- I've never crossed into a country on foot, though I've gone over borders by rail, motorcoach, and air. It should be interesting to just walk across the bridge and get my passport stamped. After and among that, though, I should have time to do some more work on the video; I really ought to stop getting ideas for new projects before I finish old ones.

Currently, there are 3 concepts competing for SH107: an extreme metal blaster, a hopelessly avantgarde/pretentious semi-electro piece, and a manic comedy track based on forum antics on other parts of the internet. The only thing these have in common is that they will ALL be long, hard, projects, and I can work on NONE of them until I bust the two current pieces out. Hopefully, I can get 105 and 106 done by the end of the year, take off Christmas and repatriation time, then come back to blast out all three within the first three months of 2006.

2005 was actually a fairly productive year in comparison to those preceding. Between April 2003 and December 2004, I did a total of 18 videos requiring effort; 2005 has seen 16 (counting my Hell tracks as a single vid) so far, 12 SH and 3 live-action INSO. And it's not totally out of the question that I'll be able to finish the current projects by the end of the year. Clearly, work (except overseas) is much easier than school for having time for AMV.

Of course, the current problem is now to ship stuff back to the States. With all my projects loaded up, I can send DVDs and such back with impunity, but given the number of albums I've bought while here, I'm going to need a fairly large box, probably several. I should have been sending stuff back as soon as i was done with it in my car, but that's pretty lame...not to mention postage intensive. I'll figure something out.......

I didn't do anything productive over the weekend (on the video, that is; put 6 more patches on the jacket), but this deserves pointing out as Best. Banner. Ever.

Even if it gets voted down, I'm seriously considering doing some kind of adblock hack to make it come up in place of every other site banner.

I'm starting to sour on Ran -- the introduction of a pay-only item to allow chars to spam the *whole damn server* and the increasing grindiness and retard saturation are major reasons -- so during this week or on the weekend I should start getting back to work on the videos. I need to sit down and reevaluate what I'm doing and how I'm doing it, to move faster so I can keep up motivation, but the time to do that isn't midstream on a project. I need to start actually *applying* Rodriguez and Schatz's principles instead of just sitting back and saying, "you know, that'd be a good idea if I had a project i was working on".

I'm kicking around some ideas for later as well, but I don't have a concrete handle on what I'm going to do for #107 yet. I should probably, like, *finish #105 and #106 first*, though, which means that I don't have to decide, and may not even have to be limited by the selection of what I've got packed along here.

I did one vob lat night, and I planned to do more tonight before the machine went south and I had to come in. Being in, I ground through two more levels of Ran rather than doing anything productive. Things that were hard become less hard; things that used to be of reasonable reward level are getting worthless. Way it goes. Maybe I'll be able to cut up another vob tomorrow. I really ought to be further along on this, but things keep getting bogged down. If I end up doing 7x9 weeks, it'll give me more time; there's only so long you can kill mobs before you get sick of it. On the other hand, I'll be working 63 hours a week without days off, which will not be cool. Gotta be some way out of here....

This should finish up the demos; I'll be keeping track of the downloads, but if some link isn't functional, or if the wrong video is associated with the entry, please drop me a note. I was kind of in a fugue state on Wednesday when I did a lot of these and can't remember too well.

This weekend looks promising for video work, but this may be affected by my getting various patchjacket supplies. The studs should be coming in today (Friday) or tomorrow (Saturday), and affixing 200 of them to the shoulders of my jacket will take a while. Hopefully, I'll be able to do another 4 eps and load the next 4; once I actually get moving on clipping, it goes pretty fast, but the trick is to get myself moving in the first place.
