Last night I chopped through the first two chapters, which essentially represent the first VOB, but due to some problems with interlacing in the following VOB, I had to re-rip everything as chapters, and will have to index it tonight after work. The source is fairly promising at this point, but this is going to be one of those cases where you cut a lot of stuff, then figure out what the hell your video is in the editor rather than beforehand.

I also wanted to chop out the pig-morph scenes (I'm using Spirited Away) to punch up a brief blast for International Satanism Day/National Emo Kid Beatdown Day, but realized that I did not actually own the Broken Hope CD with "Gorehog" on it, and could not reliably get ahold of it on such short notice. Metal Blade has allegedly re-released it, so if I can find it, such a release will probably be out tomorrow.

I'm not *precisely* on track to start editing on #107 this weekend, but it'll come close, and it's almost definite that I'll be in process on it by this time next week. After that will come a hard and fast decision on what to do next, because I really want to send the video currently blocked as #109 to Connichi, but unless the time makes it really impossible, I'd rather do something with a song not in German in between. It's probably going to get moved up; the video is a technical challenge and those two weeks in China really kicked some large holes in the production schedule.

I fixed the rip of the first VOB, but did nothing else this weekend...cable leads to unproductivity, so with the Cup coming up starting at the end of the week, this may be the only video that gets done by the Connichi deadline. And I might have to go back to Belgium, which would seriously wrench things. I'm still going to *try* to get the three videos I have planned done, but working 50 hours a week and watching 60some matches in 30 days takes up a fair bit of time.

Last night saw not only mediocre cooking and too much drinkage, but also precleaning on the current video, which punched up the source colors pretty well, even if there's a little detail loss. I think I can fix that, though; more difficult will be re-ripping the first VOB to standard if deinterlacing doesn't fix the manifold problems with it. This is from a Disney-issued Miyazaki movie, and the dual-angle for credits in the beginning is probably the reason behind random fields being scattered much later throughout the source. Hopefully, deinterlace (something I haven't done yet because I was kind of drunk and heat-killed and didn't feel up to editing text as opposed to just messing with sliders) will kill these out and junk the unneeded frames, and there isn't much in this part of the movie that I was planning to use anyways, but this could turn into a major problem source.

#105 has fallen directly to the bottom of the star-scale barrel, currently grading out under 2.5, and I have little idea why. It could legitimately be that bad, but all of my other truly atrocious videos I recognized as such shortly after completion. Maybe another few months will be enough detachment to get a more accurate picture, or maybe the picture is already accurate and I've achieved my longed-for objective of making something completely alien to general tastes. It's been especially lost on Europeans, but in an equal-opportunity spirit, the video currently blocked for Connichi will be completely inaccessible to Americans, and #107 will probably come close.

#105 is now up, and later today I'm going to be doing a re-upload of the several videos that aged out while I was in China. I'm not certain on the numbers yet, but it should be done by the end of the day unless I gravely misestimated something.

I should be starting real work on #107 tonight, probably just filtering the footage and planning the music, but I may start clipping as well. The bulk of the cutting is probably going to go in over the weekend while we're waiting for cable installation, and hopefully I'll be in a position to start actually editing by the end of next week. Cooking, cleaning, and buying food all take time, and once you block out work and sleep there's not a lot of free time for editing and such.

  • once again a slave to the puzzle 2006-05-30 13:30:56
#105 will probably be going up tomorrow; yes, AniBo is over and it can premiere, but I'm also wiped out from coming back from China, and grinding through a bunch of work stuff that will get in the way of the spare time to do the upload process.

I should also be working on #107, but I've got a bunch of other stuff to do at my place as I've now got all my stuff in place, but it's all in fucking boxes because I was overseas for two weeks instead of buying/building shelving and actually disposing it properly. There are a bunch of new videos in the queue now as a result of source acquired in Beijing, and some of them may actually come out, with the obstacle being interest and commitment to them rather than source fidelity.

Of course, there probably won't be any work done on it this weekend; my brother and I are getting our cable installed, and this includes running my current editing station as a gateway in front of a wireless router to save money on irrational charges....or at least that's the current plan. I think a shuttle running a BSD would make a much better place to plug the cable modem into, but we need to go buy one of those first. Either way, the weekend is going to have a lot of networking and very little editing.
