Nothing has changed on this video except the number...and now the concept and source selection, and also the production schedule, though this is by an indirect rather than direct influence. This is the fault of two unrelated things which occurred yesterday.
The first is that I'm going to be spending Thursday driving to and from an install at a customer site, and this will be going down early enough that Wednesday night is basically crossed off the schedule. This takes on greater importance because the deadline is a week away and tonight is shot, as usual, for editing. So I have basically Friday and Monday to exterminate exterminate exterminate this video, and thus will probably be doing another overnight stand like I did last night -- or multiple of such, since the video described above is going to clock in at 3 or so minutes rather than one.
This is why the number got bumped; I did a video last night partly as a way of breaking the sled out for the next project, and partly because Kalium was whining about having no entries for CJN. I'll be submitting it later today there, but holding off on listing and premiere until later, which will give me some time to do some more omake and a proper h264 encode. I've got a good-looking xvid distro build, but it's 22 MB, which is kind of excessive for 73 seconds....even though it's 73 seconds of nonstop high-motion action at full resolution. It's not as sparkly as people expect from action videos these days, but hopefully makes up the difference with ridiculous intensity.
After the current project, I've got another that is amenable to being assembled in a single night while listening to lots of Kreator, Tankard, and Hirax really loud, but little concept of what to do after that. I've got too many ideas kicking around, but not a lot of desire to do anything that's going to take a lot of time away from all the other stuff I've got going on in my life.

Yes, the shooting quotes went backwards. Two or three of the shots I got didn't come out and can't reasonably be fixed by effects work. Of course, one of them was dead from the start; you can't expect a nice shot of an aging wooden house with graves in the field between in and the camera to survive if some idiot drives a goddamn firetruck across the frame behind it. >[ I still have to brew everything out to editable formats, but there are now sightly more scenes to re-shoot Saturday and Sunday morning -- presuming the weather and tides cooperate.
I have most of the work done on the manga cuts; the remaining problem is to get everything worked up and properly transparented. Most of these will be fine with a white background, but if I need to float anything over live shots, I need to fill and blur in a blue or green matrix -- and since I can't reliably tell where green is on the Paint console, it's blue. Hooray for colorblind visual artists. :P
Hopefully, I'll be able to do some more work on this tonight and tomorrow; I'm looking at maybe two shows on the weekend (Maiden Friday definitely, SFU possibly on Saturday) and according total lack of sleep. Looking ahead, the song for #110 is decided, and I may check and see if I have 101 different shows kicking around, which would allow me to start the recently revived Agoraphobic Nosebleed Powerlevel Campaign. This does require buying _Altered States of America_, but given that the band is from my state (and that I regularly mail-order metal CDs) this should not be problem. Anyone interested in co-conspiritorating on this one should contact me through the usual channels; 4 people are needed to make this work, but 5 to make it stick, and if 10 could be assembled, the result could be grotesquely awesome.

I was able to shoot nearly everything I scouted, and should get my last cut next weekend, by which time the tide schedule will have shifted back so that can shoot something that was underwater when I went out to film it yesterday morning. I still haven't checked how much of what I shot came out; that's on the slate for tonight, along with prepping all the manga cuts for animation. Actual animation, due to various factors, is probably not going to start until Thursday, then skip Friday and consume all non-football-related time on the weekend. As probably mentioned, I have 112 or so cuts to do (though some of them will be stills), and absolutely-positively have to finish this by the end of next week.
The challenge level on this is high, especially given the huge chunk of time I spent this weekend playing various games. However, the challenge both technically and in terms of discipline will pay off in the future....and while I probably won't be able to muster the genkisa to do animation after D&D or moving furniture for my parents, I can certainly grind Ran then.

No work on the video last night; I was backing up a bunch of stuff as I'm going to be moving work laptops in the near future. However, hitting Rent-A-Center to see about a camera stand is on the slate for tonight; the plan is to wake up early and shoot as much as I can tomorrow morning, then take a nap before going up to New Hampshire to see Grave and Dismember. If I don't get everything I need, I'll just cycle over grinding Ran, then shoot some more Sunday morning and sleep until football starts.
Yes, I said the R word. I'm back in, back on my main, and despite the fact that there was nobody in my immediate area this morning to hang with, kind of obviating the second M in MMO, it was still cool. However, such a long layoff means that even for the future, I'm going to be playing casually only, so it won't surpress AMV production by that much. I have to get #109 out by two weeks from now, and #110 will probably also have to wrap before the end of October due to writing committments. I have a book to write in November, and breaks from that are going to take the form of occasionally going in to work and a few metal shows including Hypocrisy mid-month.
Speaking of #110, the song is still up in the air. I just got in Obituary's first two discs, and there's a lot of potential there...sitting down and actually working this one out is going to be probably tougher than cutting source for the actual video.

SH108 is out now, with almost exactly the reactions anticipated, though there are probably going to be people in the future who don't get the joke/concept....though being so stupidly obscure certainly helps in that regard. For now, though, people are bashing their heads against solid objects and occasionally laughing, which is fine.
I'm -- I think -- a good ways into 109, but this video is not one that's going to respond to standard process. I've got all the manga cuts marked out and rough-prepped, but I still need to do all the animation. I've got all my locations scouted, but I still need to rent a camera stand and actually shoot the 25 cuts I've got listed down. Most of the work is still ahead of me, but I think I sort of know where to go from here. There are about 112 manga cuts; if I get a second on average out of those, there's only about a minute of video that has to be solely covered with live shots, and I'm hoping to be able to shoot 10 seconds in each location for maximum overage.
The song for SH110 (which may end up being 109 depending on how the shooting schedule shakes out) is still undecided; it's looking a lot like Necrophagist, but I've got two Dismember discs on the block for today and want to make sure I'm not missing anything cool from there.
