The clipping is done, the effects prework remains; I should be able to finish that off tomorrow and get the video done over the three remaining days before Friday. This is falling into the domain of 'just barely', but it's still technically going to get done in January, even if most of the export and upload is going to be at the very tail end. Of course, the schedule is still going to get plowed up as a result of remastering the video track on 038 (and the fact that there were supposed to be two videos in January), but that'll be as it may.

Working with older video sources like these, you really get the feeling in working frame by frame that you're going behind the scenes in a sense; that in the process of disassembling the video, you get to see how it was put together in the original photography and composition. When the frame jumps around for three frames between cuts, it's like you're back on that manual editing machine as the film is pasted together into a coherent narrative...and then you come along and saw it apart, effacing those signs because they run contrary to the more seamles, more digital experience that you tend to provide. Not that anyone notices -- I did blends between every cut on 094 to emphasize the old-school experience, and nobody noticed that, so who's going to pay attention to a little bit of camera shake? Except for professionalism, it doesn't matter -- which is, of course, about like saying that it matters most. There's a bunch of two (or more)-stage cuts on the source pool; we'll see how many of those survive with their built-in transition intact, and in how many cases this can be determined versus a cut done in my editing. Or not; the case where no one cares is vastly mroe likely.

In a fairly short time, the number of re-uploaded videos has jumped somewhat drastically. The second and third demos are now up, as well as the MPEG2 remake of 001, and also 022, 030, 045, 048, and 102, which are not eligible for local hosting due to content. If I had planned better, I might have been able to finish all non-local uploads today, but unfortunately, this didn't pan out. Next weekend, though; there's about 25 left, and a lot of that content is INSO or BAS material (no .org or SH numbers), a lot of which is fairly small.

Currently, I'm waiting for some deletion requests to go in; once they go, or I run out of time, it'll be back to work on SH111. Clipping is due to finish tonight, or potentially tomorrow modulo punk rock commitments.

Despite getting called out to buy breadcrumbs (hell of a long story, don't bother asking) this morning, I put up about 2:15 of work and plugged through approximately half of the second movie. The source gain isn't as good, but I'm mostly going to be using this for closeups and landscape shots to fill in the margins. I could probably start editing as is, but I'd rather make sure I don't miss anything...and I still have some effects to set up.

I'm running out of January, but it's still technically possible that I'll finish on schedule. Somehow, I've got the feeling that the editing on this is going to be more complex than I bargained for, and doing that on a weeknight, when I won't have the time to knock it out all at a blow, is going to be difficult.

  • without beginning, without end 2009-01-23 15:27:40 When 032 finishes confirming, 12 of the 68 videos that need or needed to be uploaded directly to the .org for this project will be complete. This leaves only 56 more, which on a pace of two per day at lunch will wrap in about a month and a half. This also means that there are about 40 more videos that are not going up on the .org, and I need some way and some place to coordinate those. This is going to be one of several projects for this weekend, but hopefully, I can get it done without too much impairment to the progress of SH111. Tonight's clipping results will likely have a lot to say in that regard -- hopefully, I'll get through more than one VOB, and do so in less than four hours per bloc.

Right now, SH110 and SH017, neither of which has been on the Donut previously, are now up (and running zero downloads apiece, but this is par for the course, especially on 110 where everyone who was remotely interested in the video got it from the indirect link), and the remasters of SH011 (with the correct title) and SH018 are now available. SH019 and SH020 will be going in for deletion request imminently, and depending on how late I have to work today, I may get in another two videos re-upped before tomorrow morning. The pace is slow, but wavers not.

Work will resume seriously on SH111 on Friday, after the transfer limit rolls. It is not anticipated that it will take as long to clip the second source as it did for the first, so I should probably meet my target of finishing this one by the end of the month. After that, I may indeed redo the video for 038, so that video will go missing from the remasters until either the decision or the remastered print is made.
