So SH112 is up as well as done, and so far getting more accolades than pelters, at least for the present. The source for SH113 went through DGIndex without problems last night, and will fit into the basic scripts that I have for deinterlacing, then not require too much in cleanup. Despite having to lean into the screen and squint to make out artifacts after working on HD for the last three weeks, this should be a quick cut-through and a clean build, and one possible to do in 848x480.

The plan, though, is to not work on it tonight in favor of a night of grind thrashing. However, if the weather goes to shit, I get to go home disappointed, do the dishes, and start clipping. Not favored.

This is going to be interesting, though; it's the first "full" (2+ minutes) SH video using a song with intelligible English lyrics in nearly four years. Check it; only 8 projects (due to retirement), but SH106 and SH109 are wicked short, SH107, 108, and 111 are in German, SH110 is an instrumental, and SH112 might as well be. Interesting, maybe not to anyone else, but still odd, yes.

    - Export: still going when I left for work, probably done by now

As correctly anticipated last night, SH112 is not getting released today because of dumb factors mostly outside my control, like not spotting at half past midnight that I had the "normalize audio" option still selected for a video with significant stretches of silence (resulting, unless there is another and bigger problem with the audio track, in a video with no sound) and that this is a four-and-a-half-hour render job. It may go up tonight, but tomorrow morning is a lot more likely, especially if the problems are not all in the mixdown.

One way or another, this video is or ought to be done, and the basic prep work on SH113 should go in by the time it's released as well. I want to take another run through the source at live speeds to work out some stuff as regards visual effects design, which will probably be on Wednesday with an eye towards getting 113 out towards the end of next week. After that, I need to get the oars in on 114 and 115 and decide what the hell I'm doing with those two projects.

The video's clicking along at a nice ~1 mph, despite the issues with playback, though I do need to go back in and fix a couple cuts, since apparently you can't do framerate acceleration without the clip in question getting interlaced if there's ANYTHING AT ALL on any other video track. This is complete bullshit and is probably going to push me to another editing environment as soon as SH114; SH113 isn't going to have any acceleration as far as I can anticipate, and may not have any compositing either, so I should be able to skate that. Fucking hell. Vegas and a partial rebuild, or Cinelerra and a completely new box.

Otherwise, the video looks damn good, even if I'm beating the crap out of it with triggers. The main concern is going to be getting it all on disk to start with; the raw out of the editor is going to clock about 10 GB, and the Lags master that comes out of that after I do the distro h.264 is going to be in the neighborhood of a DVD on its own. Pretty sure I've got the space.......but this is yet another strong argument for building another editing station to take advantage of the shifting paradigms in digital video.

I don't actually anticipate releasing this video tomorrow; there's the fixes mentioned above, more than half of the actual edit left, and an almost guaranteed hit of the complexity wall sometime around 2:15 to 2:30, but stranger things have happened. By Tuesday, almost definitely, and then I take a Yule-preparation break before hitting back into SH113.

Edit is started in a very technical sense as well, but as there's only one clip on the timeline and it's not actually synched to anything, it's kind of misleading to report progress on the actual work part. Edit will properly begin either after class tomorrow or Sunday morning depending on surrounding circumstances; lag issues due to the choice to edit in HD are already becoming apparent, so I'm anticipating about 0.5 mph edit pace and potentially having to finish this Monday. Tonight is right out, though with a 7 PM start and a likely Maurizio put-up (Ex Deo and Blackguard are on the bill, and I refuse to believe that either of these bands can get a US tour slot if he isn't booking it) meaning good backlining and fast transitions, it might be possible to get in another listen for plotting purposes in the case where I get back before midnight. Anything that happens, though, will be a dead bonus. There's no slam in the plan for tonight, video work's the last thing I want to think about, and I'm quite hoping that the headliners get long enough sets that getting back before midnight isn't an option.

There's also the lingering possibility that work-related stuff will mess around with the schedule, as we're getting ramped up on some vital projects that need to be done by the end of the year. The result is that if SH113 does not wrap by 12/18, the idea currently slated as SH114 is going to be pushed back in order to make way for a) the AniBo decision point and b) actually processing out the source for that video. I hope this doesn't come to pass, but it's better to come in prepared rather than having to shift gears on projects abruptly.

Clipping is complete on SH112, wrapping in 3 hours and giving the time to set the sources for SH113 to rip. The reprocessing will go in tonight because I hate going to Harper's Ferry and have less desire to do that process, put up with Allston hipsters, and make it through two openers I don't care about than to see Pelican under those conditions. Harper's Ferry is fine for people who already live in Allston, but I don't, and this band will come back around to the Middle East or the Palladium at some point, and I can see them then. I get to push this video closer to completion, save money for Ensiferum/Hypocrisy, and not go to Allston: almost makes up for the "missing Pelican" part.

SH113 is also ripped only in the most basic sense, since I haven't put it through DGIndex yet; that, maybe tonight after the reprocessing finishes, I listen through the song for 112 a couple more times, and get the editing environment set up. With a relatively clean print spread across five VOBs and a two-and-a-half-minute song (2:46 by mass, but the music cuts out around 2:37), it's a little optimistic to call this a one-week project, especially with Municipal Waste, Brutal Truth, and Phobia coming around next Tuesday, but it's not unrealistic to think that this might be out within two weeks of whenever SH112 is released. I also have to take a look-see at the print; SH112 is going to be a strong test of Magix's ability to manage non-traditional resolutions intelligently, and that may give me a little more latitude on 113. For now, though, the main focus is on finishing SH112. One thing at a time.
