The projection is now about 67 GB total, and with more of the source cut, this looks firmer and firmer. Subject to change with a significant change in the compressibility of the source, but I'm pretty sure that I have a representative sample space at this point.
In other news, SH007 is getting remade/remastered (exact classification TBD pending how the actual edit goes, as on SH005/SH097) after the current project wraps, and I quite unexpectedly have a lot more options in the remastering department than I thought. Going through the old records, I have source markpoints for every video between SH001 and SH084, inclusive, which is nearly 80 videos more than I initially thought I did. It's not immediately clear how I developed this misapprehension, beyond just not having the old notes to hand; it may have been, on SH097, that I got the idea that I had in and out points for all cuts for the first couple videos, then only ins later, which would make recutting harder, but this isn't supported by evidence. I have ins and outs for about two cuts on SH001, but abandoned that tack almost immediately because it was way too much work for too little return.
The upshot of this is that there are now a few more potential remaster projects than there used to be. The most immediately likely is a full, fixed version of SH046 to initial spec -- there were supposed to be additional intermission riffs between the three takes -- and then maybe a DVD version of SH084 where everything is finally in the proper aspect ratio thanks to non-cut sub tops. Regardless, though, this stuff is not going to be under immediate production for a while, so anyone holding their breath on it should be prepared to wait well into 2011.

On a larger volume, I got a smaller absolute weight of source from the second 10% of the cut, which now projects to be in the neighborhood of 68 GB. This is probably not going to hold up, because a lot of the savings in this stage were from cuts with next to no variation in (low) luma values, and that's not a consistent attribute of the source. I'm not sure that is *matters* terribly much, though, because this still isn't a small enough total volume to not "offload" the source pool prior to editing.
It's also getting more tenuous, listening over to the song a couple times, as to the degree that I'm going to stick with the experimental impetus behind the project. I'm probably going to end up cheating in some sections, but I'll at least try to play by the rules initially. Without that restriction/escape hatch, this project becomes somewhat less fun and significantly harder to keep track of. Hopefully this is going to work out -- and if it doesn't, there's at least a decent chance of a good traditional video to fall back on.

Entirely as expected, the idea that was in as SH115 previous to last night is now on infinite hiatus. It may get made sometime, and all the components are saved for that purpose, but it's not looking enormously likely.
Instead, Causality is on deck, and due to finish around the 9-year anniversary, provided that nothing untoward happens and I can continue to cut the source at 10% per night. Of course, this is going to lead to a source volume estimated between 70 and 85 GB, which is more space than I have available on my editing drives, but I do have that space on my archive drive, and the rather unique editing workflow on this one -- plus the length of the song, which will mean multiple wall-hits, a good thing for once -- will actually allow for that.
So, Causality will go, and then maybe a remake of SH007 since I found my old prod notes, and then it's the other idea that was contending for the SH114 slot.....which I still have to finish watching the damn show for. Sometime when I'm not at work. Or asleep. Or at shows. Or out of the country. Or keeping up on current anime, of which there is a surprising amount that is not crap this season. Or actually working on the video(s) ahead of it. Crap.

SH115 is still not out, but in the meantime, there's some new AMV-like substance being vended over at Insomni-Ack:
http://insomni-ack.blogspot.com/2010/05/inso16-giruy-ya-tokyo-huns.html
If egged on sufficiently this may go on this site, but it's not really, at least as I see it, an AMV.
It's not *just* that Celtic have kind of turned it around in recent times, but that on top of a bunch more social activities and the unwillingness to do graphics work that have pushed 115 out. I'll probably give it another shot this week into this weekend, and after that, if it doesn't come together, cancel the project and do something different.
Right now, I have a good idea on the plate for the "Causality" project, and can't wait to get to work hacking it. It's good enough, and enough of something that I want to do, to outright preempt the current SH115, which is going to turn into a lot of work in areas I don't like to finish. With time so limited, I have to concentrate on doing videos that I like, not just ones that I can get an idea for.

SH114 is out now, and available both local and indirect, as usual. What, you thought that despairquit bit yesterday was serious? Come on, man, sound it out:

I'm not quitting, and won't until I get through a few more projects, including the first idea I ever conceived of as an AMV back in October 2000, which is not in the short-term timeframe at all. When I do get to that pass, though, it's going to be simply because everything I wanted to do in AMV is done, and the well at long last is dry.

Despite the headfake yesterday, I finished up the cut Wednesday night and also made a fair bit of progress into the planning stage last night. Hammering the source into a video may be a little difficult, but I have a ton of overage and if there's one thing I do in AMVs, it's crudely bang on non-fitting source with a wrench until it does fit. I have to do a fair bit of graphics work over the weekend, but the actual editing process on the video is going to be pretty quick, and this will probably end up getting all stewed together over the next four to six days. Completion is still on target for by next weekend, despite the thrashing I have to do this weekend after finally getting off on-call.
